I bought one of these based on your comments, admittedly skeptical. However…after using it for two weeks (slow half swings, 3X/day, 5 minutes per session), I learned the correct way to eliminate the wobble. Then, when I hit actual shots today at the range, I was amazed…wow! This device does everything you say it does. My contact was flush, as well as consistent, with every club. Thanks so much for introducing the GEM! My advice to new users…practice slowing down with half swings because you will eventually find a way on your own to get it to stop wobbling and stick with it! Once you stop the wobble, the results when you actually hits golf balls will be there.
Good to see it in slow Mo and further broken down :-) would be great Steve if your working with someone with a high handicap and see how their handicap improves after 2-3 months practice!!! That would be the real litmus test! If the company and you have the ability to show true positive results for us mere mortals then I’m sure the problem you’ll have is fulfilling orders due to supply and demand :-) Great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
at the 4:50 mark would have to disagree with the champ. Toe to the sky with his gate analogy works if you were hitting the ball at 90 degrees to the spine. You can see he is standing straight up in his demonstration but with spine tilt the the leading edge would be parallel to his spine which would cause the toe not to be to the sky but tilted squared to the spine. I think the are forgetting the laws of motion and showing it statically over the toe line doesn't account for the centrifugal force that moves around the arc with the weight so if you were to show a real swing slow motion i would assume it wouldn't be toe to the sky with an elite swing.
Not really. If you are standing straight up and down then the club face is parallel to your spine but that’s not how you hit a golf ball. With the spine tilted in your golf stance, for the club face to be parallel to the spine it would be at the same angle which would appear closed.
For those on a budget, an adjustable self clamping wrench can be had for under a tenner, and when you've grooved your swing you've got a usable tool to boot.
I bought a GEM after your first youtube review of the GEM just because the position of the weight and physics it plays in the swing intrigued me. But i gotta say its the first golf tool that i have bought that actually does the job at finding your swing path and develops consistant contact with little fuss or work or thought, u just feel it, and that muscle memory feel transfers over to hitting the ball like nothing else ive used. It’s taught me more thru feel and improved my swing more efficiently and effectively than any 1:1 coach ive attended.
I put this on my lagshot, while using the hanger while standing on the perfect pressure pad while reading the golfing machine and now im pretty sure I'll shoot nothing but 54's Actually it looks like a cool device
I loved the concept and it made a lot a sense and related well to my swing thoughts. Made up a similar item using an old club, old putter head and a bit of epoxy. After one range session using it played in our club Saturday comp, had one under on the first nine, missed one green in regulation. Faded a bit on the second nine, bad course management but still awesome ball striking. 76 gross off nine h/cap. Only missed three greens! Put it down to the GEM concept. Game changer for me.
It’s great to see and hear from all the different people on there experiences with the GEM, from mid to professional golfers. Thank you doing all the research- hopefully you can share other people using the GEM
The GEM needs to be attached at about a 7 o’clock position not the recommended 6 o’clock. I’ve been using it for a month now and the 7 o’clock position allows for a balance club with forward shaft lean. With the GEM set at 6 and the toe up at 12 it cause the club to wobble with an open club face. Set it at 7, put the club on the floor with forward shaft lean and you’ll see it balance correctly.
@@stevejohnstongolf My current state of affairs with golf is I'm not seeing any improvement despite anything I'm doing. I hope this helps somewhat but I still can't build a repeatable consistence swing with consistent contact. Trying trying trying trying. I wish it was easy to me like it is everyone else.
What many might not know (I didn't) is that Ian Woosnam suffers from "ankylosing spondylitis" which is a kind of arthritis that can affect the spine, pelvis, hips and other joints. No golfer wants this! All power to you Woosie!
purchased and have had for a week. I really have enjoyed it mostly for chipping. really helps to take the hands out of it and let the weight work the physics of the swing.
My GEM arrived 2 months ago, by far and away my best investment in a golf teaching aid. Hitting my irons really well and far more accurate than before the gem
The only thing that the GEM needs to improve for a 2.0 version, is a lock-in latch mechanism to attach to the club grip rather than fiddling with two screws to lock it into place.
Mine arrived and the results were felt within the first session. Can you do a video on using the other rods on different clubs - driver, 5 would, hybrid, wedge?
steve, so the gem is kind of a counter wieght fastened to the club that helps open and close the club face. i ordered one last week and looking forward to using it.
I bought one of these as I’ve spent many years going off plane early in my swing - I am just not feeling what they are - if I swing it with right hand only which always puts you on plane then I can feel it.Am concluding it’s not something that is going to automatically get you in position but you need to make adjustments for the right path
Other than swinging the GEM from 9:00 to 3:00 is there any other drills you recommend? It seems like Ian is swinging his club further on the backswing and follow through.
If you are just swinging to get the feel and not hitting balls why not just flip the head so it is toe down, like you would for the Peter Cowden Axe drill, and just swing the club that way? Would the club not then balance in the same way and give you the same feel as what this is doing?
that is very true and Woosie doesn’t use a modern technique - all modern teaches instruct your clubface to be parallel with your spine angle at half way back.Am sure you could move the Gem to achieve that position though - Steve should answer that here
I’d be fairly happy striping the ball as well as Woosnam. There is more that one way to achieve good impact conditions , and after a few hundredths of a second the ball is on its way and doesn’t give a monkeys if your clubhead was toe up at FPP. The “ modern” body release is causing a lot of back issues and is largely irrelevant to the vast majority of handicap golfers. We could all learn a lot from watchingFaldo, Lyle, Seve, Woosie, Langer et al... their swings stood the test of time.
@@mikebarnard2689 So not a fan of Rory Mcilroy or Gary Player then? Even by your own words I've heard Nick Faldo advocate for a stronger grip and more rotation through impact to avoid rolling or supination for easier timing. There is certainly a lot to learn from these legends.
I disagree with the statement that the club face is closed at 9.00 in a normal takeaway, it is square to the swing arc. When he held the club horizontal and turned back the club face was square but when he held it and took his golf posture the club face matched his spine angle??? 5.06 shows this. The Gem makes you open the club face, which is not necessarily wrong but it definitely opens the club face on the way back.

Too expensive for what it is. In fact, you can attach a clothespin for free or even look at the clubhead. I disagree about vertical clubhead, actually Ian put it parallel to the torso in the first swing he makes with gem.
I’d need to see some amateurs ACTUALLY getting some CONSISTENT BENEFIT from this gadget. Most of us out here just need PRACTICE!!! I can’t tell you how many people I play with EVERY WEEK that bitch, piss, and moan about poor play. So I ask “how much time do you practice???”. Oh well “I don’t have time for that “. I completely disagree, I see hundreds of people practicing all day long hitting ball after ball with the same horrible swing and never getting better year after year. Until you actually learn a proper golf swing practicing is just a waste of time, just go out and shoot the same terrible round with the same terrible swing and save some money on range balls lol.

Anyone know the actual weight of the Gem. Clamp, long road and ball weight?.
