Thanks for your kind comments ! If you want to see DNG raw files , check out the link in the description :) - 14th november update : BM has updated Ursa Mini Pro firmware adding ISO 3200 and after some testing I think it handles low light better ! Also after this video I did a black shading calibration on my camera which removed these bluish tones in the shadow.
Thank you for doing this video. Just wanted to know about the lens adapter yu are using on the 18 35 sigma.. i heard it causes vignetted corners. But I'm glad I did not find any on video.. Thank yu.
@@Sanehuman6243 Didn't see any ! I'm using speedbooster ULTRA. Since the Sigma 18-35 is an EF-S lens you are probably going to see vigneting if you use the Speedbooster XL, which is meant to be used with full frame lenses.
i love your videos my friend! you have that rare talent not to irritate audience when you talk, and the videos are masterfully done! I , and many more i'm sure, would live to get more details about your raw files processing approach, your grading looks very very good! merci in advance! ;)
Sitting here, waiting for the next Mini Pro upgrade! We've seen releases in march for every models. Last one was in march 2017, so I hope we'll see the next one in march 2019! Great content!
I love your compositions. You can see the experience behind it. 2:32 I feel in love with this shot. Making something mundane into a film set where I expected a 1850s woman to come trough the gates with her umbrella. Respect. Doesn't matter what kind of camera you use ... if you know what you are doing every camera can make beautiful images.
Really good video, neat shots and all. You went the extra mile and that's going to pay off for sure. Even if you're not performing profound analysis, the presentation is worth it.
Alternate title: Slamming the Pocket 4K and Ursa Mini Pro against one another. In all seriousness, even two years later this video is extremely helpful. As someone who started with the 6K and took it back for the 4K, it's amazing to see how well it still holds up today in 2021. My Sigma FP and FX3 still cannot fully match the image quality the pocket 4K puts out.
@@christianj1584 more/affordable lens options (mft is a much more adaptable lens mount), more manageable file sizes for editing and storage, and filming in 4K RAW was not an option during the time I had the 6K. It was either 6K RAW or 4K ProRes. It’s hard to beat the image out of the 6K or 6K Pro though, they’re all fantastic cameras. Just depends on your use case and what you need your camera to do.
Love your work friend... You're the master of what you're doing... I have never experienced such a better tutorial or information oriented video so good that I can't resist watxhing over and over again... Keep up the good work brother...
I know this comparison is a little old now (with Mini Pro having a newer model out now), well not too much, but very well done. Thank you for the info and your observations! Very helpful.
Good to see a good review and more importantly he saved all his money on the cameras and not waste it on hair cuts and still wears hand me down tops from his older sailor brother !!! Great Vida though .. well done
I have two BMPCC4K's arriving on Monday. I am glad to hear they match well with the URSA. That is why I bought them. I have an URSA Mini 4.6k. I look forward to the portability of the pockets on gimbals, etc. I don't like doing the ND dance but it is what it is. My only hope is that after buying 2 BMPCC4k's they will not release in 6 mos. a Pro version with built in NDs like my Ursa experience. I also hope BRAW will be available on both in a reasonable time span between the two. If not, I may be using the pockets more until they release BRAW on the Ursa Mini 4.6k. Your reviews, in my opinion are the best on RUclips at this time. Thank you for doing them.
Got them both on Monday. Putting them through the paces. So far, I'm pretty pleased. The footage looks good. I haven't done any 12 bit RAW comparisons with my Ursa Mini yet but will.
Please, if possible! Make a BMPCC 4k video of just footage. Your color grades are fantastic and I really wanna see more footage while I impatiently wait for mine to arrive haha.
I own the Ursa Mini Pro EF mount 4.6k. Its a great machine but its surely not a low light machine. Almost any competitor beats the URSA after sunset. Nevertheless the sensor IS upgradeable allowing for future upgrades. Thank you for the comparison.
The color science is different which is good. Not sure which one is better which is bad. The one thing I am sure about though, is this is a fantastic channel.
I subscribed after seeing your first video and can say I was one of the first 1000. I'm looking forward to seeing this channel grow with more great content! Keep it up!!
Another excellent and practical test, thanks! Would love to see a test of the bmpcc4k's ability to tame a sunny day high contrast scene shot in raw, compared to the gh5s's ability to do same in its V-Log mode. And skin tone accuracy between the two. I was really set on the gh5s, but I'm more and more interested in the new pocket, in particular its supposed better dynamic range and color science vs the gh5 and gh5s.
And that's gonna be interesting. The old BMPCC not only has a better dynamic range, but also a cinematic look that is easier to create. But Blackmagic Design remains silent about this as it was then. See: The sensor (CIS 1910) dimensions are even larger compared to 6.5 µm x 6.5 µm (instead of 5.5 µm) and the read noise is also significantly better with 1.2 vs. 2 e-. In short: According to this data sheet, the Micro Cinema Camera should have even better dynamics than the URSA Mini 4,6K. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator from www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Im-Schatten-der-URSA---Blackmagic-Micro-Cinema-Camera.html What many don't know See: ( forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=71816&start=300#p403935 ) : "Mathematically, though, there is only one way to measure DR from a sensor. Both the Fairchild sensor in the original Pocket (CIS1910F) and the 4.6K Fairchild sensor (LTN4625A) are listed on their specs pages as having greater than 88dB. 88dB is over 14.5 stops of dynamic range (88 / 6.02 = 14.62). Blackmagic list the original Pocket (and the Micro) at 13 stops, but list the 4.6K sensor at 15 stops. Now, you could say that the 4.6K sensor has more DR in general, as it does push the noise into smaller pixels, given the same viewing area. However, if you were to take an HD crop of the 4.6K sensor and compare it to the Pocket, the DR may be the same. (I haven't tested or seen a comparison myself, though). Mathematically, the sensor in it can do 14.6 stops. The math is taking the 20log(10) of the Full Well Capacity (30,000 electrons) divided by the Read Noise (1.2 electrons). So, for the sensor in the OG Pocket, it would be 20log(10)(30,000/1.2) which does work out to be about 88dB or 14.6 stops. The Sony IMX294 sensor in that 2nd link I posted is listed as having a full well capacity at 400ISO of 63700e with about 7.41e read noise. At 2400ISO the read noise drops to 1.75e and then the full well also drops to about 14800. Looking at the math: @400ISO=> 20log(10)(63700/7.41) = 78.7 dB or about 13.1 stops. @2400ISO=> 20log(10)(14800/1.75) = 78.5 dB or about 13.0 stops. So, I do think that there is going to be less dynamic range. That being said, the increase in resolution may make it so that the apparent dynamic range is greater. " I have the old BMPCC and a few days ago I held and tested the BMPCC4k for the first time in my hands. My decision: I stay with the original/old BMPCC! In conjunction with BM VA. as external LCD, I have all these new useful futures, like LUTS, Falsecolor etc. and the internal only serves for the menu. I can turn BM VA. and rotate as I want. The new BMPCC4k has the same image quality as GH5s (the two also have the same sensor). So you can compare it and the steps to cinematic look, did not differ like the steps of shooting a GH5s. Color Grading, LUTS, which can be found on the web for GH5s, will also allow the same look with recordings from the BMPCC4k. The old BMPCC has damn similar image quality as the Arri.
Automatisator Peace obviously you don’t know what you’re talking about. Dynamic range tests done by cinema5d show that the gh5 has between 9-10 stops of dynamic range. The pocket4k has at least 11.6 if not more. The old pocket is also a terrible choice today. It’s SD cards have been discontinued, Blackmagic no longer supports it, and to say that it has the same picture as an Alexa is totally inaccurate. It has 4 stops of DR less than the alexa
Automatisator Peace also arri uses completely different image pipeline which allows for this great dynamic range. Unfortunatly for us it is patented to Arri, so we won’t see it in BM camera’s I’m afraid...
Great review. For those with less budget, the pocket 'David' stands up to the Ursa mini Pro 'Goliath.' This gives newbs like me, hope. I think that is your point.
