that tip/trick with the window for centering an embellishment over the spine is so useful! simple and not too intuitive, so thanks for sharing stuff like this. ♥
This book cover looks so beautifully vintage. I love how you pay so much attention to every single detail. I really appreciated that you always give the measurements in metric units as well.
Nik I have watched you for a long time and sometimes I feel like I am a silent stalker but I'm really not. I love all the tips and tricks that you do and the different tools that you use I absolutely love it's always out of the box. Keep up the great work and I am so tickled when you do have a video not as often as I would like but I still so enjoy them and you just have a wealth of knowledge thank you again Nik.💜💜💜
Oh Nik, your hands are so possessed of creativity perfection. I am glad I can't post pics of my tries, but you certainly help my brain to grasp the tips n tricks to make things look like they might last at least a generation. Keep giving us your skill and ideas. Is it time for another story of mysterious mis hap and odd circumstance or chance. Love when you do them. Have a wonderful week all.❤
Nick, I always enjoy watching your videos. You execute everything so precisely and in such detail, and yet, from this side, it seems so simple to do, but I know, that's because you are a true artist in this field. Congratulations and grateful for what you show us.
You make it look so easy! I love this little book!! TFS! I have followed you for a few years now and you always lift my spirits and inspire me! Thanks for your free videos! ❤️
the way you create your tutorials - yes its possible - lol - so precise - so detailed - i love how this book cover came out - very pretty - thank you Nik xx
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve only ever done books where the cover image wraps around the edges of the boards, so I now feel more confident to tackle one where the images are slightly smaller than the boards! Thanks
What a gorgeous book cover! I love it so much, it's the perfect example of "shabby chic" that I love so much. That cameo on the spine is just so *chef's kiss* lovely! You always do such beautiful work. I just love watching your videos, it's such a happy spot for me every time you upload!
I am always amazed at how precise your work is. I love watching your videos and your crime mystery stories… hope to see more of those. 😉. Thanks for sharing.
Nice to see/hear from you today. You are always teaching a part of bookbinding I would never have learned otherwise. Thanks for sharing your time, talents and inspirations. Take care young lady and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Hello Nik , thank you so much dear lady for this Awesome video! So much fun. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration you bring with every video. Have a blessed day, hugs 🌻🤗💜🦋
So enjoyed the refresher course. Love how meticulous you are. Think it speaks to the part of me that wants to do all things perfectly. I do try to not let that rule my actions, but it is a struggle. The papers you created are beautiful. Such fabulous work/play.
Love this video. Thank you for sharing. Would you possibly be able to do a video on how to create your own digital papers to use in your journals / digi kits please? Or maybe some guidance or tips on his to 😊❤
just a suggestion-paint canvas come in small sizes. you could use them as a book cover. You use paint on this one, if you are any good at painting. You could paint a picture on the cover and seal it and use a cloth spin. don't know if it would work, but watching you paint gave me the idea.
You talked about giving the covers a spritz of clear spray paint to seal in the colors. Did you add anything to the fabric to protect it? Did you make the cloth into bookbinding cloth? I love the way the book turned out! You know how to coordinate colors well.
EVERYTHING you create turns out Absolutely Amazing!!! I really need to work on my measuring... Or actually START trying to measure! LOL! One of these days, I hope to have The Honor of actually holding one of your Masterpieces in my hands!!! ~🙏💙🙏Much Graditude From The Carolinas🙏💙🙏~
I love all facets of your work. The projects themselves are always beautiful. Your explanations are simple and concise, yet always cover the salient points. I enjoy your chatter and personality. You’re just fantastic and you have given the confidence after watching most of your videos to make and even restore a couple of books for friends. I have an original, signed Longfellow book that is illustrated. It is huge - about 14” tall and the cover is in VERY BAD condition although the inside is surprisingly excellent. I want to tackle it so badly, but am terrified. I will keep watching you ‘till I get the courage.
Oh my...a signed copy? What a special book! I highly encourage you to have it looked at before diving in (if you haven't already) to make sure it isn't worth a kazillion dollars or something 😳
@@NiktheBooksmith LOL. Yes, I have had it looked at and it is valuable, but not quite a kazillion!!!! The value is very diminished because of the covers and spine. I think they were water damaged at some point. The front cover is furled up like a leaf. I was considering misting it on the backside to see if that moisture might release the fibers enough for me to put weights on it to flatten it out. I’d love to send you pictures if you’d like to see it. It’s pretty special.
Fab, easy to follow, video and gorgeous book. Love the printed pattern too, very pretty. Just wondering, what printer and ink do you use? I have a Canon Pixma and the ink smears and smudges if it gets even a whiff of PVA or water based anything, even if I use thick paper and a light layer of glue (onto the board not the paper). Matte varnish makes the ink run too. Thank you for the very entertaining videos! 😊😂
I think you have me hooked...gathering tools and supplies to get started. I have a basic tool kit coming from Amazon. Regarding glue, I have a bottle of Titebond Original Wood Glue, would this work (in your opinion)?
Wow, your so precise and detail oriented. Were you an engineer in another life? This cover is amazing. I love your videos and sense of humor. Thanks again Nik ❤❤
No, my math skills are deplorable 😂 But, my grandfather was an aircraft engineer for General Motors Allison Division. Maybe I was blessed with a hint of his intuition 😊 thank you!
I love this. May I ask what printer you used for those covers? Also, can we protect the ink from smearing if someone with a moist hand will kinda touch them? I really like that design. NEVER MIND...I just find out at 08.20 . Thank you
I found you just a little bit ago and have been playing around a bit with making sketchbooks, and I had a question, do you have to glue the spine after sewing it, or is doing just a sewn spine oK? Your work is always inspiring, I want to make all the books!
Good morning! I wouldn't say you have to, but I usually do because it adds to the stability of the binding. If you'll be gluing the back of the text block to the inside of the book cover, then it wouldn't be necessary to glue up the text block spine ahead of time. Hope that helps!
According to the google dictionary, to ravel or to unravel means exactly the same thing. I would use "unravel" because is sounds more like something is falling apart.
Thank you, Kris. I find it odd that specific definitions weren't assigned to each one. Leave it to the original English scholars to make everything as confusing as possible, again! Lol
I had to look it up. Ravel, according to Merriam-Webster is to become unwoven, untwisted, or unwound: fray. So just another words I’ve been using incorrectly for 60 years. Ho many book would I have to foil to make a foiling gizmo worth it? LOL 😂 TFS ❤❤❤
My sadness comes from not being able to see the finish product. You showed it in 2 secs and then it was the end! Please remember to showcase the results! PSA is now done.
I forget until I remember . . . . This is BEAUTIFUL & I love the embellishment cameo on the spine. Classic Booksmithery!

Not going to lie it took me a minute to get used to your style of VoiceOver, but now I can't get enough. I routinely watch videos over and over😂
You've laid out the steps so simply; it's immensely helpful. Thank you so much!!
You precision is amazing. You make the most stunning books. I so enjoy watching you create these little masterpieces! Hugs 🤗❤️
This book cover looks so beautifully vintage. I love how you pay so much attention to every single detail. I really appreciated that you always give the measurements in metric units as well.

Good morning! In this case, I did not. I figured the fabric was plenty thick & dark enough to hold up.

A lovely book, as usual. Interestingly enough “ravel” and “unravel” are used interchangeable. Weird, huh?
