When you said, "I'm hungry but nothing sounds good right now that I have the energy to make" I fe,t that. That's why I keep fresh veggies prepped and fruits like berries and bananas prepped and frozen. Other quick bites are cheese sticks, cottage cheese, or nuts. I also always have a sugar free electrolytes powder with vitamins and minerals to mix a drink. Get a 10-12oz glass of water, stir in the electrolytes with some frozen berries/grapes. Sometimes thats all I need to get a nd wind but sometimes I go for a handful of snow or sugar snap pea pods and either a cheese stick or a few tablespoons of cottage cheese with some tajin. In about 10-15 minutes you'll be able to plan what you want for your actual meal and it takes about 5 minutes to put it all together and eat it!
I haven't been watching you for a while (sorry), but you are so intimidating. I came upon this video and was awed. You make it look so simple. I would love to try this sometime, but have a few other projects to finish, but I think I'll be coming back to your videos. I just want to say what a BEAUTIFUL book you created, gorgeous!!!
I need to get the brick. If I want to know the right way to do anything to do with bookbinding your channel is the go too. TFS all your talent and information while keeping us inspired. Hugs and Smiles
Beautiful work as always. Now I'm wondering if I really need to go grocery shopping. Making a book sounds like a better plan. But my growling stomach doesn't want a handful of chopped walnuts and a piece of toast made from the remaining heel left in the bag. So I guess this will have to wait! And I have to add to my bucket list: Make a gift wrapped brick. That of course will leave my sons scratching their heads when I leave this world, along with empty, flattened macaroni boxes and a horde of other "good" book making materials. I should not be left unattended. Lol
I, too, have a brick but it is not wrapped. A friend came upon it years ago and it has the name of our street stamped into it. So, I'll probably never wrap it. I do use it as is though. Love watching you work. Wonderful little book. I learn so much from you.
Love how you mix measurement systems, like 3 mm and 1/4 inch. I fully appreciate how both have value and contribute when one is fluent ish in both. Fellow ADHD brain here and I find it too funny how you fold that in. I’m probably on the outskirts of your typical viewership (male, scientist??? Maybe not?) but non the less, I immensely appreciative your humanity and instruction. ❤ Edit: Hate the crime stuff (forgot what it’s called), but that’s just me. Can’t stand the thought of anybody suffering anything.
I watch every one of your videos. You are so clear with your instructions and careful and precise with your projects. I love that! It gives me something to strive for - I'm off to find a brick. Thanks!!
Nik: your work is done with precision. I really appreciate that. That brick idea is one I’m going to do. A really informative video on all accounts. Thanks. Carol from California
And here I thought my life was going well as I do indeed have a gift wrapped brick 😊 Then I find I don’t have lightweight weights 😱 😂 Another fascinating video 🙏 ❤
Ah, the BOOKSMITH BRICK! Accept no imitations! This is FANTASTIC and I was following along thinking that the inside cover was the outside because I was all flipped, turned upside down . . . . 🙂
I love this! Simple and yet still professional and elegant looking. Thanks so much Nik! Edit to say: now I’m off to go grab a brick, some fun wrapping paper, and shipping tape 😂
I loved this tutorial. I’ve been venturing into bookmaking and your expertise has given me so much to work with. And now I see that I too need a wrapped brick to further my studies 🤣. Thank you, thank you, Nik!
I’m just now discovering your channel. Thanks so much for explaining how to make a journal so clearly. Heard you say “cool beans” in another video, I burst out laughing. Haven’t heard that in a while. Love your videos. 💕📔👍
I love bookbinding all my own sketchbooks and I very much enjoy watching you demonstrate all the different methods. Thankyou so much for sharing with us.
This video is so timely. I was kind of hoping you might make something like this soon because I ran across my new testament from catechism class, date, 1968, and the cover has totally disintegrated so I need to make a new one for it. And this will be perfect. Thank you so much. You are such an inspiration.
@@lindahowe2293 my bigger Bible is from 1964, it has a white cover and that’s disintegrating. Also it’s literally coming apart in shattered pieces. And my dad bought it for me so first I’m going to do the New Testament which is like 2 1/2“ x 4. And then I will do the other one, and it’s very precious to me. It has pictures in it and they’re gorgeous. And then I have the Donner family Bible, which is from the Donner’s of the Sierra Nevada Donner’s. It’s cover is loose. I think Bible covers should be made a little better, after all, they get handled a lot.
Hi Nik Sweetie!! So thrilled with this upload as I've been looking for some more techniques/ ideas. I've been enamoured with making small book- journals this year, and your AWESOME Video is just the ticket!! What a clever and very creative crafter you are!! Thank You So Very Much for divulging your wealth of knowledge on your fans!! Hope you are doing and feeling Very Well!! I've got a little catching up with your channel! It doesn't come up in my feed like it used too! Maybe now it will! Happy and SAFE Blessings!🙏😇🤗🙋♀️To You Nik!📚💞- Mindi
I honestly could watch your videos all day!!! I'm getting really hungry for one of your true crime videos. thanks for always being so informative and an excellent teacher!!
Hi nick. I have to tell you are funny thing that happend. I had watched on your video and for some reason turned on bluetooth. After a while my husband was going to liten to music in the musicroom. ”What the…..!!!” he shouted. I heard ”hi guys its nick the booksmith, wellcome back wellcome back” in the speaker 😂
After you had weighted the first cover, I was thinking…man..I really need to get a brick and wrap it up pretty…then you made your comment. Called me out! It looks like I’m hunting down a brick😂
🙏🏼🍀🥰 love your tutorials. And yesss; opening the fridge door… and closing it ; doing keto makes it not easier; now I have found bars with vitamins and chocolate for that 🤓
I just looked and I can not buy that in the UK. 😢 But I can buy a common brick. 🤷🏻♀️ I think if I want a smaller squared weight I will have to make one myself with sand in a box. 😑
Your work is as always, inspiring!!! Quick question? Would it not be prudent to use one piece for the tie instead of two? I am thinking there must be a reason you used two and not just glue one right across the entire width of the leather cover. Once again thank you for all of your beautiful work, super amazing!!! ❤
Either way works! I opted for 2 pieces because I didn't want to see the tie wrapped around the spine under the crochet trim. Definitely a personal preference type thing, no right or wrong =)
I like your videos, event though I sometimes need a few moments to get your voice and what I see synchronized. ;) And there is one thing I would like to know: Where did you get this tiny bottle with this narrow tip to put very small amounts of glue on paper, books, whatsoever? It can be seen at 8:35 for example
hello! If you click on the link to my Amazon favorites lists under the video, you should see a list called "Booksmithables". If you scroll down a bit, you see Art Glitter Glue. Its the bottle that comes with a needle tip. I bought that bottle of glue and I refill it with white glue when its empty. Hope that helps!
Hi Nik….love your channel…help!….on vacation in Poland, visiting five cities and thinking of doing five separate “volumes”, (collecting tons of stuff),then placing them in one “box”….ideas? Has anyone ever done this? ….thanks!!
Strangely enough I actually have one! Lol! However, I did have to...shall we say..covertly rescue it. I wrapped it in plastic and its now in the witness protection program. Hopefully, the poor man didn't come up one short. Nuff said.
14:16 I looked away for a couple of seconds and thought you were doing the Paste Down on the cover instead of the end paper because I missed you opening the cover. I was so confused!
Girl please…you know you won’t be able to leave the front of the book plain 😂. This video had me so arvous (my grandma’s word for nervous). You don’t normally make your books this way hence me being arvous. But I love this technique. I always struggle with an open spine. But as always you make it look so easy. My gears are turning though (can you smell it 🔥). If you had a signature block that sewn vs glued (not sewn into the spine) it would work the same way, wouldn’t it?
Are you referring to a text block that's made by sewing signatures together? This one was sewn and glued up in a traditional method. But, maybe I'm not understanding this correctly?
I vaguely remember Nik saying they were welders blocks or something to do with metal working, in an older video in making a booknook. A visit to a big DIY/builders warehouse seems to be a must. I'm just waiting on an opportunity to visit the nearest biggest B&Q store. Health issues being fickle an all. Edit) oh you already found what the metal block is called. 😁👍
Yes, Caroline is very close! They're called 123 blocks. There should be some listed on the Tools list in my Amazon faves. Link is under video if you want to check them out!
Well, that’s a pretty cool little book! BUT…I went and tried to look through your videos before I asked…I think I remember a video on how to measure an existing book cover to make the new text block fit. I couldn’t find it (YT has mucked up the lay out and I just cant with it). I have 2 covers I made wrong for a text block and would now get back to filling them….
I don’t have a brick wrapped in wrapping paper and shipping tape. I am evidently doing nothing with my life. I snort-laughed when you said that.
Maybe a tutorial for brick wrapping??????
Haha me too
You could be a comedian?! I laughed so hard when I read your comment 😂😂😂😂
I have dug around in our brick pile and an ready to cover it! And, out is line co, like you said it. I had to call then a few years ago and I asked!
Hahahah! Yes!@@candacejustme1903
2 text blocks sat in my craft room for too long as I tried to decide how to cover them. Then comes NIK! Thanks again!

Oh, Nik, you are so very meticulous with your projects!! iI always watch stunned by your high level of perfection!! Love watching!! Stay healthy!!
A million thanks! I just bought a text block of Khadi paper without a cover and was wondering how on earth I would cover it. Now I know. 😊
Nik: your work is done with precision. I really appreciate that. That brick idea is one I’m going to do. A really informative video on all accounts. Thanks. Carol from California

Beautiful Nik!! You are so amazing! Thank you for sharing!!
I enjoyed today's video. I learned the covered brick trick from Sophia at Love Your Books years ago. Handy, isn't it?
La Maestra with a brick. Look out! 👀

Hmm...there's a few that talk about that. Usually it's the ones where I start off with an old book cover and have to fill it with pages. :)
Great video thanks for all the great details. Happy journaling! Mariaknits27 💃🏻💕📚
Can you glue the signatures in instead of sewing them in
hi amber! gluing pages is a totally different methodology. In this example, I don't think glue-bound pages would work very well. 🤔
Not book cover a over to go on foot over cast
