  • Sharing my technique for Instant Pot baked potatoes plus an extra step if you want to take your baked potatoes to the next level with crisp and salty skin. Enjoy!
Note: I misspoke after the potatoes cooked. I said "10 minutes cook time" when I meant "15 minutes cook time."

Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs ruclips.net/user/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

Summary: Wash them, stab with fork a few times to avoid explosion, place in cooker with trivet( larger potatoes on bottom). add a cup of water, turn to High pressure for 15 minutes. Instant release

You can piggyback cook the potatoes with some leg quarters and set for 20 minutes and they all do fine.

I've just cooked potatoes like this for the second time just so I could cook them as per your video where you sliced them, coated them in oil and spices and revealed them. Needless to say they were a huge hit. Completely divine! I've had my instant pot for over 6 months and only used it a couple of times. But since finding your channel and your amazing recipes I have completely fallen in love with it. So thank you xxx

I appreciate all the help. Just wanted to say that I do this also and I usually cut them in half or quarter...I can fit more in the pot when they are all about the same size. I use manual about 10 minutes and then let it do a natural release. Everything comes out great.

Thank you for sharing this Indigo. I have the 7 qt newest duo and pierced my potatoes with a knife all the way thru just instead of cutting in half so I could spoon vegan chili into them after they were done. I used 2 cups of vegetable broth and a full pot of potatoes about 3/4 full. They came out perfect and I did the 15 min cook time and natural release. I will probably use white "baking" potatoes next time. We seasoned with salt when they were done. I'm learning to use my new pot.

I used to avoid potatoes a lot before getting my Instant Pot for Black Friday. I'd always take the easy way out and have packaged potatoes. Last year, I got a new blender and fell in love with creamy homemade potato soup, but not enough to like cooking potatoes.
But I also learned that my Instant Pot is great for cooking sweet potatoes, and that is what pushed me over the edge. Sweet potato pies, sweet potato cheesecakes, sweet potato bread, sweet potato soup with kale, sweet potatoes all by themselves, and the new recipe I'm researching is sweet potato cornbread.
Regular potatoes are okay, but pressure cooking really does make them easier to peel. Sweet potatoes peel even more easily when pressure cooked. So I now find myself looking for more potato recipes/videos every week. Love your tip about putting a cross on the potatoes before cooking.

Sweet potato corn bread sounds amazing! Yes, potatoes are so convenient in the IP. The hardest part is washing them! lol!

    • @cheshkat6321
      @cheshkat6321 7 лет назад

Yes, amazing is what I thought also! Especially since sweet potatoes have many health benefits. But I have to try other recipes because I'm not a big fan of the sweet potato cornbread I made. Awesome texture, but regular cornbread tastes better. Glad I have people anxiously waiting for my latest baking experiments - more than happy to give some away. Although I suspect regular cornbread is more versatile as it complements more foods.

Best baked potato with crunchy skins are baked in the oven using olive oil, salt, pepper around 45-60 minutes. I find my Instant Pot cooks food faster but not as good as the old school way. My Keureg coffee maker is fast and easy but not as great as our espresso machine for making cappuccinos.

Yeah! Nil! I was perusing IP baked potato recipes and ran away from the first video with the music and flash cards. Indigo KNOWS how to do a great video! Very instructional, but not an ongoing motor mouth. Go Nil! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 (Great explanation on the cook time depending on potato size). That’s really why I’m here. Now, I don’t have to waste my time on other videos.
I.N. You are a pro! I’d never handle a hot potato in my bare hands...but, I’m a chicken and not the pro you are. We’re always teasing my mother in law, who had 9 children. She’s 92 y.o. now, still lives independently and very well. She still loves to cook. We call herb”asbestos hands” because she’ll grab almost anything right out of the oven bare handed! We just look at each other and laugh! Nil, by the time you’re 92, I’ll bet you’ll be able to dance on hot coals! 🔥

Hey CCC ( Cute Cooking Chick ) love the video. Love the Instant pot too, my favorite cooking apparatus by far. Just a thought, have you tried making a slice (full circumference) around the middle of the potato, instead of the X. On sweet potatoes the method I mentioned works great, you can just pinch the ends and the meat of the potato comes out easy!

My Russet potatoes were starting to sprout, so I cooked them tonight. I did 3 in my new Instant Pot, 2 in the oven at 450F and 1 in the microwave. There didn't seem to be any significant differences in texture etc. It was a fun experiment. They were medium size potatoes and took 18 minutes to cook through at 5100 feet elevation in the IP. I will definitely do the IP again. So far, I've made great Quinoa and brown rice. My primary reason for using the IP is to cook dried beans but haven't done that yet.

when I boil my potatoes I always poke with a metal BBQ skewer crosswise and completely through each tater. And when they are done, put them in very cold water. Right away, leave them there for a minute or two. Then peeling is a breeze. My mom taught me that when I was a little girl and helped her always in the kitchen. It works.

I always come back to this video to get the timing for Instant Pot baked potatoes. I just do a search on "baked potato" and up come the tutorial. I like that you always include the name of what you are cooking in the title so it is easy to find the recipe with a simple search. Thanks again for the instant pot tutorials and all your other stuff too. I could do without the weekly calendar thing where you spend way to long creating a todo list, but that's probably just my male prejudice. My with things it's great because she's into scrapbooking too, but I just enter my todo list on a simple spreadsheet that I keep on my computer desktop and scratch them off, one-by-one by changing the font to include "strikethrough" on the cell.

No long waiting time required, no X-cutting either. I learned already as little kid that you take the boiled potatoes and put them into a bowl with cold water. Let sit in the cold water for a few of minutes, the skin is going to swoosh off without any effort. Works every single time, doing it this way for decades. You are welcome.

I've read that you don't need to use a fork on the potatoes; they don't cook like they do in the microwave. Anytime I've seen salt added on the outside of a potato, it's sea salt or large grain kosher salt. Table salt might be a little too salty, but whatever you like for your tastes! Enjoyed this video.

To fast peel the potatoes, The ones you did the X on. When you take out drop into a bowl of ice cold water for a few seconds. The skin will come right off then. But have to say I cant see the point in doing what your doing for the actual baked potatoes. Just wash , pierce and salt before sticking in the microwave to cook. And if need be, then stick in the oven for crispier outside.

Just in case you happen to come across any in yard sales, thrift shops etc. I have the two sizes of the cake baking pots too, but I haven't checked to see if they fit for PIP cooking... So far I am enjoying your videos, you make cooking seem like "of course, why didn't I think of that". Your babies are beautiful!

thanks for vid. I tried to cook potatoes in instant Pot and did not add any water. No where in manual in the how to section does it say I needed to add water. Then I read the very back in the safety section and it said to always at 18 oz of water to anything being cooked. You think they'd put that in the front section.

@@lokidurden6473 Adding water is common sense if one has used pressure cookers before. However, if not, they need assistance not criticism.

Sandra, No need to criticize Robert...you're like the pot calling the kettle black. Robert is right. Whenever you get a new appliance regardless of what it is, the manual should be read cover to cover. Swankster should have known better, so back off of criticizing Robert.

Robert, you're absolutely right. Swanster should have read the manual cover to cover! Duh, right?!

As far as useful information when and where one needs it, the manual for my Magic Chef cooker is about as vague as can be. That's why I've consulted channels like this one. She's been at this awhile, and seems to know what she's doing. Thank heaven for people who share their knowledge!

I am not much of a cook but theoretically it should not be necessary to put larger potatoes near the bottom where the water is. Steam is hotter than water so the rising steam should distribute the heat fairly uniformly to all surfaces of the potatoes.

The heating elements are in the bottom of the pot. Things nearest the heating element cook the fastest. It doesn't have to do with water vs. steam.

15 minutes for 2 large Russetts and they were still hard as a rock. Due to my high altitude I have to add significant time to every recipe.

no need to poke potatoes cooked in the Instant Pot, Only need to poke if cooking in the microwave to release steam. since Microwave cooks from the inside out, unlike Instant pot that cooks from the outside in, Just like you wouldn't poke a baked potato cooked in the oven.
