Really appreciate you and the incredible work you put into your guides and sharing information with the offroad community, just like our mapping crew does! It says a lot that you share opinions from the trail based on experience in the dirt, not just from behind a computer screen. Catch you guys out there! 😎
Very happy with Trailsoffroad! We met the Colorado mapping crew on Black Bear Pass last year. They were super friendly and even helped us down an obstacle. Really great guys that really are into helping the off-road community!
Yeah, I’m friends with a few TrailsOffroad mappers including filming a guide with one… they’re actual off-road enthusiasts and that’s what I love!they knew it’s critical to get it as right as they can.
I don’t quite understand the OnX RUclipsrs… if you want people to know you’re for them, then wouldn’t you actually push good products instead of anyone that throws money your way?
As a creator, I see their side as ad revenue is hit or miss. As a viewer, I lose faith when they sell out. The thing I wonder… is do they truly believe the bs they say about their sponsors?
The other apps don’t have the money OnX has. OnX came to me and offered me enough cash on top of affiliate percentages to pay for my TJ and Liberty builds. TrailsOffroad hasn’t even been able to give a t shirt lol.
Great video my dude! After spending the week with you in CO this fall i'm a believer in Trails Offroad, though i haven't pulled the trigger on the purchase yet, but will definitely do it before the spring! I'll still keep my Gaia as it does have its own strengths.
Yeah, I love GAIA too, but I love trails off-road more but that’s because I love trails. You do too so I bet you’ll be like me and like TrailsOffroad over GAIA as you use it. Still, I wont get rid of GAIA!
On-X had inaccurate trail info when we were in Gunnison Colorado. It said level 3 “slaughter house gulch” was level 5 South Lottis road….. needless to say, we weren’t expecting this trail to be this difficult. I plan on making a “Halloween” episode called “OnX horror story and the demon cows” 😂 Also, I just used TrailsOffroad to find overland camp 2 nights ago. Worked great!!
That’s gonna be awesome! I’ll may do one last little dig into OnX when I edit horse creek, but feel I said my peace on it between the GAIA vs OnX video and this one. This was a long time coming tho as an OnX RUclipsr called me out on the GAIA vs OnX video and then recently another OnX RUclipsr tried to tell me it’s the best off-road company out there. I was like, do we have different versions of the software? Anyway, I’m glad you found TrailsOffroad! TrailsOffroad is awesome as it’s made by off-road adventurers for off-road adventurers. Yeah, and for true off-road camping, TrailsOffroad is killing it. Such good spots in their waypoints!
@@coloradomallcrawlers My latest video has a little video of my using it to find camp close to Tuscon, Arizona. I had to drive over there for a little partnership meeting about new product. Saved me from a hotel stay.
I too like TrailsOffRoad in conjunction with Gaia. My only problem with TOR is their photography can be confusing when they are showing an intersection. OnX has proven to me to be a real pain, as has Avenza, so those 2 are going into the trash.
I know they’ve been putting their trail authors through video and photography workshops so I bet they’ll be getting better. They seem pretty good to me but I’m a video person, never was good at photography.
@@coloradomallcrawlers .. Part of it is tell you to "go/continue straight" at an intersection... Just tell me when I have to turn, straight is assumed at all other times. And line up the vehicle in the turn, not pulled over along side the road. With video you can actually show taking the turn as well as any signage.
Thanks for the video. Regarding the affiliate link/kickbacks. Who cares? You spend your time producing content for us and you deserve all you can get from that hard work. It speaks volumes about your character that you even mention them, but I feel it's unnecessary. People should be happy to support the channel in any way they can and an affiliate link costs us nothing.
I appreciate that! Thank you! I try to put more into this channel than it earns as I truly enjoy filming as making videos for others. I’m getting more confident hosting, but I still hope to find someone to take over so I can be the videographer and driver lol
I have been using Trails Offroad and like it better than OnX. Bought a Jeep Rubicon 2004 and put a 2" lift and 33/10.5 tires. its way better than the jl Diesel on 35" tires.
I think you’ll like my stock to stock comparison. I think that’s how you should evaluate vehicles off-road as almost anything can be built to be awesome on the trail. Thanks for watching!
I'm new to offloading and was using onX and fond some of it useful. I do own the FunTreks off-road books, and think that it gave better information than OnX. Do you know if Trails Offroad gives that same amount of information?
I know they’re small pics in this video, but hands down TrailsOffroad has so much more info than OnX. I used our recent filming sessions to show the differences. I’d say TrailsOffroad probably had double or triple the info OnX had on the same trails. Also, the best OnX guides are from funtreks, and as much as I love those books, TrailsOffroad has more room to have more info being a digital guide. Hope that helps!
I’m only 2 years into off-roading and briefly tried On X and was not a fan. I used trails off-road in combination with Gaia before their integration with CarPlay. Now I have had some issues with the app crashing but those seem to be resolved now. I think they are the best option for off-roaders for all the reasons you stated. On X should stick to hunting 😅
Let them know if it happens again. From what I understand, TrailsOffroad is really responsive to issues. I’ve luckily not had any issues with their app on my iPhones, iPads, or laptop… but I’ve not tested it on android based systems.
I've been a Gaia user for user a long time (started as a backpacking user), but the usability and features are crap so.. since I clearly still have to manually create all the routes found on Trails Offroad (upload to Gaia creates a track... which isn't useful at all... it should create a route) ... and the features inside Gaia make it a PITA to do this (system admin sucks, folders and saved stuff is a train wreck to understand and manage across iOS and website)... so I'm just going to stick to CalTopo and Trails Offroad. Really wanted to my Gaia and Trails Offroad combo to work, but... it's just too shitty.
Thanks for sharing! I don’t have those issues, but GAIA is simply recording my trip and I use trailsoffroad to stay on my intended path using follow me.
A lot of great info to consider. Thanks for presenting the options. Trailsoffroad seems to be your choice, what do you think about the updates such as trail open, conditions are handled on trailsoffroad?
So, I think both TrailsOffroad and OnX allow users to update that. Generally I find the TrailsOffroad user base to be more knowledgeable and therefore more accurate. Also in TrailsOffroad you can submit photos… like in my mount Baldy video, there was a sketchy rock slide I shouldn’t have attempted, but I’m almost certain that there were pics of that slide in TrailsOffroad. That’s what makes TrailsOffroad reviews awesome!
Hi, Dewey. Me and The Old Goat have been using Trails Offroad this year. The problem is that the "Follow Me" doesn't always work with my tablet. That and Trails Offroad tends not to show how to get to the trail head from the primary acess highway/road. Otherwise, I've been please much more than OnX. By The Way, Me and The Old Goat (2005 slightly raised Liberty that is otherwise stock) have done Poison Spider a couple of times. I recommend a talented spotter for the first waterfall up from the trail head and a couple of other spots. But on the whole, competent, skilled driving will get your Liberty thru Poisoned Spider just fine. Yours, Karl and The Old Goat.
Let them know… I had issues with navigate to the trail, but it’s fixed for me now. I don’t run a tablet in my Jeep so I’m doing everything with my phone. We’re finishing filming Poison Spider in early November, want to come?
