Rob, you have convinced me to give OnX a go. Been super frustrated with Gaia these last couple of years. This feels like starting over in a whole new career so hopefully its worth the learning curve.
Great review Rob. I agree, it would be awesome to download an offline map for a state or province. Same issue with other apps like Gaia. Otherwise its pretty awesome
Thank you sir, good and informative video. OnX, if you are listening...I especially like the "full width" feature. I have never used your app before but definitely will now purchase for next trip. My wife and I mostly travel in our Power Wagon towing a Patriots Camper X3 (roughly 33' in length and 11,500lb overall weight). Any program that will help me determine if roads are wide enough (tight switchbacks etc.), are very helpful/important. As we travel by ourselves, I do worry about getting into a trail situation where I can't make tight corners, roads to narrow and backing up is not an option. Maybe in the future make a mention if trailer friendly? Just to add a quick example...my wife and I were recently in Moab, went up Hurrah Pass and down the backside over to Chicken's Corner and camped on the Colorado. Although going up and down both ways were tight and curvy, it was plenty wide enough to carefully navigate with truck and trailer. That kind of information would be incredibly valuable within the app. Thanks for listening
I haven’t purchased it yet, but curious if On X off-road gives step by step turns to a trailhead or campsite when you aren’t in cell service but have downloaded the map ? I have starlink in my Outback and will be using CarPlay.
I tried using OnX Offroad via CarPlay with a downloaded map while outside of cell service, and the map refused to show anything because I had no data connection. Have you ever had this happen?
I have both! Until the latest update I’ve always used Gaia for route planning, but OnX to actually find trails. Now that OnX has route planning, the only thing keeping me with Gaia is the snow layer.
Onx, if you’re watching, love the app but would like to be able to zoom in to the pictures associated with trail descriptions! Edit: using IOS application.
This is too much information for me. If I go on an adventure I want mistakes yeah tough spots. The most fun I had in Nepal was when they got lost. This map is looks like Mount Everest is getting too popular. I know I could leave this little map off but having it makes things too easy.
The reason I would want a tough vehicle and tough clothing is I was gonna meet tough challenges. Please don't tell me that Gortex is now a fashion statement.

Give the free trial a go! OnX is definitely a lot simpler.

I like how with Gaia you can download any dimensions and area, but I hate the whole download layer/folder system

No, it doesn’t. It just displays a line to follow when you have created a route or follow one of their routes.
When they say "high Clearance 4x4" what does that define to?

I tried both the paid version of Gaia and Onx. I stayed with Gaia and deleted ONX. Just preferred the way Gaia works better.
I’ve found myself using Gaia for route planning (before the OnX update) and OnX for actually finding the places to go!
