I’m in Minnesota. The first trail that pops up is something called Mallard Lake trail, 7.1 miles. But it’s actually closer to 100 miles away. I know there are lots of trails and back public roads to drive on way closer to me. But every trail is says it’s a short distance but it’s very far. What am I missing?
We offroad jeeps and RZRs and I'm having a heck of a time getting OnX Offroad to show me actual street names when we have to jump from WV Hatfield McCoy trails to a street to get to the next section. Any suggestions on this? Using the app on iOS for iPhone 14pro and iPad pro. We have the premium subscription for onX.
so basically you have to have an area saved before going to that location since you will not have cell service? In other words you cannot show up to a location and use OnX Offroad?
How do you display the weather? Mine just has the word “weather” there. When I touch it, a window opens showing the weather, but when the window is closed, it goes back to just the word “weather”. Is this one of the differences between the Premium subscription (which I am on) and the Elite subscription?
Thanks for this video. I just purchased the subscription and had done some poking around and self-learning. Your video shortened my learning curve a lot. Much appreciated.
New to off-roading and OnX, thank you so much for this walk through of the app. It was just a bit intimidating and you took all the stress out of planning my first real trip. Definitely gained a new subscriber and looking forward to exploring the rest of your content. Edit: Had to add; I'm not a mustache man but damn you make that sh*t look good!
I am fairly new to tech, am 50 lol, however found OnX family of maps a couple years ago. I AM NOT Sponsored, but I am very pleased with the variations, usability and user friendliness of these programs. I do a lot of hiking so the Backcountry one is great for finding trails, elevation, difficulty, etc. Fishing, camping, general off-roading, I use Offroad. OnX Hunt is great to let me know if I am stepping on people's property..great for making sure I don't get shot for trespassing! The downloadable maps is useful as well. No service, no problem, still have the detail of an area NOT available on paper maps. $30.00 a year, for each, but I personally think it is worth it for I do. Hope this helps.
How do I make my track public? I’ve been mapping out the ozarks from east to west for a couple of months now and would like them to be visible for everyone on the app
I just watched the video a lot of good info. My ? Is if I make a trail and record it to app is there a way to follow that trail back like directions. Bc it is hard to drive in woods in the dark and look at app to make sure I’m on the correct train going back where I started thank you
Thank you I’m new to Arkansas and have been going through the Ozarks in the Ouachita And have been learning on my own how to use on X this helps me a lot
Brad there is a small pond with goldfish named "China Garden Spring" on the Jeep trail between Panamint Springs in Death Valley and the old mining town of Darwin. That is a very cool run if you get in that area. Also your videos are alway interesting and very well made. Keep them coming.
Yesterday while using my iPad I lost all connectivity but I could still track myself live on the map and I could save my track at the end of my ride. How does it connect if I have no cell service.
Your phone or iPad still has an internal GPS, so it still can track and record. However if you didn't save your maps, you cant zoom in and actually see the roads, satellite imagery, etc.
Googled how to use this app and this was one of the videos hat it showed, but this video didn't help with what I was looking for. I'm so used to AllTrails for hiking but it doesn't tell too many off road trails, so thought I would try this one. So I can highlight a route to a trail, but the trail itself doesn't highlight. How do you save the actual trail to your main map, then be able to route to it when the time comes? Trying to learn a more detailed app after using a simpler one for so long.
Question for a newbie. When tracking, I've had the problem of it stopping and I lose it. Why is that? Also, on our return ride back, the map is backwards, I should take a right and the map shows left. What am I doing wrong?
You should be able to "pause" while tracking, if you click "stop" it will stop whatever youre tracking and save your route from when you first started it. Make sure you're only pausing. You should be able to tap the little compass icon to change your map orientation so it's not backwards. Hope this helps!
If you're on trails or anything off grid that you create in onX, no, there is no turn by turn directions. They have a "navigate" feature which will give you turn by turn directions (using apple maps or google maps) to your trail that you have on onX, but it stops there.
As frustrated as I am with this app I still keep it on my phone just to open it and be frustrated with it upon opening. I have a few trails I would like do but when I navigate to the trails it, flawlessly, brings me to my neighbors house about 50 feet away. I can NOT get it to navigate to the trailhead. I have to google the trailhead (after reading comments on where it is located) and plug it into my Apple Maps and the switch back to OnX to do the trail. What am I doing wrong? I have yet to find an app that I can navigate to trails with. GAIA pulls up hiking trails even though the filter clearly says Offroad so that is out. Help please.
@@ArkansasOffroad That's sick. I love your videos man! I'm a band director (percussionist) and recently getting into overlanding. Cool to see what we have in common! Keep the vids coming!!
Thanks for the tutorial! I was looking at the onX Offroad 7-day trial version and am really impressed. Tell me though, do you know if this app can be downloaded into a GPS (I have a Garmin Montana 700i)? I'm sure you know Garmin maps have their limitations when it comes to trails and Forest Service roads. Being able to download onX maps to a GPS would be especially nice.
Excellent video. I'm now thinking about a rugged smartphone and this software for dual sport motorcycling in the Ozarks. Looks perfect. I like a guy with a snare drum in his office. 😀 Thanks again.
Can you go over filing sub-folders in folders? The filing system on OnX really needs attention. I'd like to give up Gaia completely but can't until OnX upgrades their filing system.
I have none of this on my app, my app is super basic. I am a little disappointed actually. I have to dig in and see what im doing wrong. Thanks for this video!
I have nothing good to say about this app. I cant figure out much. I cant bring up my waypoints by name. I cant figure out how to insert a coordinate and then have it map it. Very irritating app to use.
I do a lot of off-roading so this app would really come in handy . I was also wondering about location of undeveloped campsites and campsites with all the amenities . Are they identified in this app ?
Noticed a few videos back when you did a vehicle overview walk around thing, you had a garmin tread overland. On about switching on/off lights with PowerSwitch, any way why not just use garmin explore ? Or do you just prefer the set on on this mapping, also could the routes to loaded too the explore software and then too the overland. Anyway nice one take care 👍
Pretty cool video! Thank you. I’ve been using Gaia for years. Thinking about making a switch. I like the 3D view. Does ONX do routing, live tracking and show your elevation in real time?

Poor Ohio. Didn’t see a blue dot at all 😟 I’ve been trying to find people near the Cleveland area to help me start off-roading more as I built up my Tacoma for that but have no friends or family that share the off-roading hobby.
I downloaded and subscribed thanks to this video, Great job.
Thank you!!

I'm guessing that the distance you're looking at is the trail distance, not the distance from where you're at to the trail.
This a troll comment right…
@@Jay-rg5mt No, it wasn't meant to be. But it does show my ignorance.

So this doesn’t have GPS interested into the app? You have to outsource for the GPS I’m gathering?
Do you happen to know how I can upload trails/routes to the public, so anyone with ONX can see it. Just like the other trails that are public?
How do I make my track public? I’ve been mapping out the ozarks from east to west for a couple of months now and would like them to be visible for everyone on the app
OnX is by far the best app I’ve ever used for wheeling🤟🤟
Heck yeah!
Will you give us a updated on the rugged radios handheld.
I randomly found your channel while searching for trails in Colorado and you guys seem amazing. I wish I had a 4x4 I would love to do a trial ride
That's awesome!

If someone sends a pin can you add it to OnX? Like a coordinate?
Thanks Grant, I was just planning my trip up to the bonfire at the end of the month from ETX, I'll for sure be using this app
Very cool! Glad to help.

Does this app have a layer for Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) published by the U.S. Forest Service?
It shows it by default. Always on

Nice job. I am an old guy and will go into the Nevada boonies next week. Anything easy to help knowing my location is grea.t
What are some beginner pretty easy trail you know??
will onX work with the Garmin InReach Mini 2 if I do not have cell coverage?
Yes but it only gives you gps signal. It won’t give you cell data to load maps.

Can this be used like a typical GPS? For example, I pick a trail, leave my home heading to that trail, can I get turn by turn directions?
If you're on trails or anything off grid that you create in onX, no, there is no turn by turn directions. They have a "navigate" feature which will give you turn by turn directions (using apple maps or google maps) to your trail that you have on onX, but it stops there.
Very helpful, thank you! Quick question, how do you “delete” a waypoint on the Off Road app?
Go to "My Content", find the waypoint listed, and the tap (or click) the three dots to the right to see a list of options. Delete is on that list.

That snare drum is HOT. First thing that caught my eye after the star wars stuff lol

No, it will not show you campsites. Just offroad trails/MVUM roads
The coupon "arkoffroad" does doesn't work when I try entering it for the membership?

Is the basic yearly membership sufficient for On X Offroad- or is the premium recommended? Big price difference- thanks!
I would say the yearly is sufficient for most people.
Can you go over filing sub-folders in folders? The filing system on OnX really needs attention. I'd like to give up Gaia completely but can't until OnX upgrades their filing system.
Where did you get that shirt?

Are those Star Wars pictures on the wall above your computer? And is that droid a lamp?
They’re a poster of every movie and the droid I built at Disney world. It’s remote control haha.
Nice! Thank you so much for going over the basics. I have a little understanding now. Looks like a good product and very useful.
will this app track you in remote areas with no receptions?
Yes
Can on x take you to the place your trying to go like google maps would
Does work in Europe as well? Tks mate

So far that has been my experience as well. Doesn't seem very helpful for dual sport dirt biking.
Yeah so far me too…… maybe a waste of money
Well done! Thanks
No problem!
Do a update on the rugged gmr2 radio

Thanks! Garmin explore doesn't have near the offroad data that onX does. I actually use my garmin for on road navigation and then onX for offroad.
Great stuff!
When I try using my PC to plan a trip, OnX is super laggy and slow. Have you had this issue or heard of it? Great videos by the way
Interesting. Not for me. It’s pretty fast. Especially on PC
Pretty cool video! Thank you. I’ve been using Gaia for years. Thinking about making a switch. I like the 3D view. Does ONX do routing, live tracking and show your elevation in real time?
I believe so! I know they're working on a complete route builder app update. Should be out this summer.
Thanks for the info!
would be great to show how this looks on a phone.
Well done, thank you.
U need to show us ON TRAIL. In the office is easy. I have never been able to navigate this app On trail.
I bought the app and I build a roof and the navigate me through Maps or Google Maps why we spend money on it when we go back to maps lol
Thanks so much!
Very CLEAN office setup
Thanks!
Good stuff !!!
I was wondering why everyone was getting away from Gaia and using this. Seems much more intuitive and packs a lot of outdoor apps into one!
Exactly! It just flows a little better. I dig it.
