hello, welcome to our place, did you know that when the freedom bridge was handed over, the last rivet was "hammered in" by the Austrian ruler and was made of silver, it was later stolen. (if it's true), 17:04 that's a paddle-wheeled boat that was brought up from Balaton, I think the taxi driver cheated (the first one) that's why I tell everyone, if possible, never get into a taxi without a "Majesty" sign, call Uber or Bólto, or " "main taxi" in Budapest. He was a nice guy, he must have liked you ;-) next time you should buy a ticket for a fast train if it's available, it costs a little more but it doesn't stop everywhere, I like trains too, our trains are the way they are, we have a saying for that "a little more yellow, a little more sour, but ours" (this quote is from an old movie where they wanted to present the first orange successfully grown in Hungary to the leader of the Communist Party (who also had not seen an orange) but a student ate it, so they gave him 1 lemon saying that's it, the important comrade found it strange, and the person who gave it to him told him this) I'm sorry you didn't look around Budapest more, but Eger is also beautiful, visit the castle, the minaret, the basilica, and the winery, sorry if I'm not around I use an understandable foríto app, have fun!

As I Hungarian, I'm really grateful you chose our country as your first one in the EU. I always love to see tourists visiting Budapest, who might show the city from another perspective, sometimes locals like myself forget how incredible this city really is, we often look at in a different way. And yeah, the train stations are a bit messy, without the help of the internet, even for us sometimes it's hard to determine what trains depart from which station.

    • @SyifaAdriana

Awww thank you so much, Oliver! That is incredibly kind and sweet. I think Hungary and Hungarian people are really great. That's really great to hear about seeing your native city from another perspective. I agree sometimes we take things for granted and often need someone else to remind us why it's good in the first place. Thanks so much for watching!

@@SyifaAdriana It's a pleasure. Knowing how much struggle you had to go through to receive your visa I believe it's a gift for you to be able to visit countries like Hungary, and from that perspective it's even more valuable (at least for me) that you apparently did your research about our capital city. I know our language is super hard to learn which makes your effort even more valuable. Hope you found Eger also nice, even though it's a much smaller town than Budapest. Oh, and you even found interesting spots in Budapest I wasn't aware of, despite living in this city since I was born 😉

As a Hungarian, I'm deeply upset by the taxi driver that took you to Kelenföld. You very, VERY clearly said Keleti, which was literally 10 minutes from your hostel, and yet he somehow turned it into Kelenföld, which sounds nothing like what you said. For shame.

@@hariopamungkas3746 ehh yeah... long trip out to Kelenföld, even longer back to the middle of downtown, plus in Kelenföld she also walked out to the trains so lucky that she left the hostel early. The taxi driver could have asked to see her train ticket, since he's doing this for a living. (We're doing a bit of Hungarian impression here in the comments btw: Hungarians can always complain about something. Ask any local, they won't even stop to think of a topic. :D )

    • @qorilla
      @qorilla 2 месяца назад +15

Yeah, annoying. But once she was at Kelenföld, it would have been faster to take metro M4 to Keleti than to take another taxi. Annoying that the girls at the platform didn't tell her to take the metro. It's easy even with luggage as there are elevators and it's all barrier free.

14:00 There are not only 3 bridges in Budapest! From north to south: Megyeri bridge, Árpád bridge, Margit bridge, Chain Bridge, Elizabeth Bridge, Liberty Bridge, Petőfi Bridge, Rákóczi Bridge.
You can buy tickets for public transport from the pink vending machines visible at every stop, local residents buy a monthly pass, which does not need to be validated separately.Tourists can also buy passes for 24 hours, 72 hours, 15 days, etc.

wow, Syifa - this video started so emotional with your Visa story...before I knew it, I got tears in my eyes... tears of happiness about your stamp in your passport...! 😅
...I grew up in Germany, even close to the Austrian border, but never made it to Budapest... so I watched very curiously... Europe is so rich in history, and its sometimes unbelievable to see how many fantastic buildings, castles, bridges, cathedrals, hotels, market halls and even railway stations have been built in the past centuries!!! In comparison we make a poor showing with most of what we build these days... ⛪
...what I always love so much to see in your videos is how you immediately and naturally connect with strangers, and then elegantly land where you need to be... hands pushing your suitcase, drivers finding a short-cut so you can catch your train... its like a magical journey... you are born to travel, Syifa - you have it in your genes! 😊...hopefully you have by now fully recovered from the flu... keep on surfing the waves of life!! 💖

As an Italian, hence with a EU citizenship, I always kind of took for granted the luck we have when it comes to travelling. The 1st part of your video is a proof of that.
And I’m glad you chose Budapest as your first city in Europe. It’s beautiful and one of my favourite ones. I did my Erasmus there and keep visiting every once in a while.
Hope you’ll visit Italy soon, but I wouldn’t know where you should start from, there are so many things there. Maybe from the capital, Rome, but Naples, Florence, Venice, Trieste, Milan, not to mention the Amalfi coast, other coastlines that are less knows but beautiful, Sicily, Sardinia, the mountains, the nature… ok I’ll stop here 😂
Just a little note: Hungary was a communist country, part of the so-called “Eastern block” from a Western European perspective, but it was not part of the Soviet Union :)

I absolutely want to visit Italy soon! There’s just so much to see, I’d have a hard time choosing where to start too. Thank you also for the note on Hungary’s history-definitely a good point!
Wishing you all the best, and hopefully Italy will be part of my travels soon! 😊

What an excitement sensation I am having right now after going on RUclips to see your videos of the English/Scottish border episode and I saw this Hungary video and it is stunning. It looks like you are back in the Eastern Europe because of the architecture looks exactly like Soviet Union style. I’m so happy that you finally got the visa and keep up the good work in Hungary. By the way, your English/Scottish border episodes is amazing as well. I love it.

    Hello ,welcome here!
    A couple of additions
The Danube runs to the Black Sea. From Hungary in order: Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria. In several cases, it is a border river.
The Elizabeth Bridge was originally built in 1903. It was destroyed in World War II. Just like the other bridges. Except for the Megyeri and Petőfi bridges, which did not exist then.
The today Erzsébet Bridge was completed in 1964, using the original pillars.
The namesake is indeed of Bavarian origin, but she is the queen of Hungary. She is also the Empress of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
In fact, the Hungarian language has two words for female rulers.
If the actual ruler is a királynő. If, on the other hand, the king's wife is a királyné. Elizabeth was the latter.
18:12 The taxi driver may have thought you were heading west. The trains to Vienna stop in Kelenföld. It is true that they start from Keleti....You said it right.Congrat.
20:00 Lotz Hall. It used to function as a VIP lounge a long time ago.
20:05 A somewhat old but still working train. It will have air conditioning if you open the window. It's called a fecske/swallow. Or the other name is the postavonat/mail train. When there were still railway mail cars, they were also painted like this.
20:23 The name of the newest motor train is KISS.
21:16 This old motor car has many names. E.g. after the manufacturer, studenka. But they call it an apple crate, but mostly after its designation ( Bz ), the letters are pronounced phonetically as Bézé.
As far as I know, he also appeared in a cola commercial.
The film was shot at Keleti Pályaudvar during one weekend.

Among the many cities on the river Danub are four national capitals: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade. Its drainage basin amounts to 817,000 km2 (315,000 sq mi) and extends into nine more countries.
I cruised through it in Viena and Linz(Austria).

As usual, you have a very interesting video, culturally/historically interesting as well as touching on fun sites to visit . I appreciate the good mix of music and narration with similar volumes. Russell, what an amazing comment~ Thank you so much for your enthusiasm. Whoa, I can imagine the hassle one has to go through in obtaining a US citizenship. If you dont mind sharing, what's the process is like and where is she from? I bet it must be expensive too, as my husband and I have spent so much money for our UK fiancee and spouse visa. Haha I dont think my accent will be fully British but it's just so influenced by my husband and where I live now. 😂 Thank you so much for your kind support!

@@SyifaAdriana My wife is Thai, and we still have a house there. I lived in Thailand for almost 15 years. She had to live in the USA 5 years before applying for citizenship, then go for an interview on history and politics. She did well on that part, but has to go back for the second part which she didn’t pass. Her English isn’t that great, as we speak Thai at home, my fault! Anyway, thanks for the communication and safe travels. Oh, and the application fee for citizenship was $730 usd.

I just found this channel randomly and wow, you speak so clear, and your pronunciation is just amazing, even the hungarian names!
Thats why I don't get why the first taxi driver confused Keleti with Kelenföld, however these two are connected by international rail services, not all local trains go through it, and probably he thought you wanna go international, or he was a scammer because if you lived near the Elizabeth bridge, Keleti is literally at the end of that main road, not so far from the bridge, and Kelenföld is further away.
Oh btw, trains are my passion too, was good to see how much you like them as well lol
p.s.: hope you gonna visit Szeged as well one day
