They're all gorgeous but I just can't stop looking at Lita. . Lita on lead -- she was probably better than a lot of guy lead guitarist peers way back in the day. Joan is perfect. Jackie looks stunning.
They never really gained popularity in the USA. I remember seeing one of their albums at a record store (the back cover put big emphasis on their young ages), but other than that I never heard them on the radio or saw them on TV. They were probably considered mostly as a novelty act because they were all girls, and for that reason they were dismissed by rock fans. It's too bad because looking at this video, they were pretty good, and what's especially impressive is how well they played at such a young age. Most of them were about 17-18 years old at the time.
@Josh Not true. I never heard the Runaways on the radio in the rock era. Since Guardians of the Galaxy, you hear it more often, Americans didnt like the Runaways, or The Ramones and punk for that matter until later in the timeline.
I've been hearing "Cherry Bomb" a lot lately, on an oldies/roots music station on accuradio. . . & just saw the bassist on Jeopardy last night, & watched her Dating Game appearance before going hunting for music. . .
I just cant believe that girls was only 17 to 19 years old. What a performers and stage presence. Lita makes me sigh, shows what it runs in her veins is pure metal
I saw The Runaways open their set with this song at the Whiskey a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in 1977, and have never been the same. Joan, Lita, Cherie and les girls put stars in my eyes.
bought this album in 1978, was on frequent rotation in my air force dorm room and later in the apt. oh my goodness! many nights drunk and cranking up the runaways live!! ..even some of my..less partying buddies, knew the words, because I played it often! in retrospect, 40+ years later, I apologize to all whose sleep I disturbed!!
Is a shame not to have been born at that time, very good, there will never be another band like THE RUNAWAYS only I have to thanks them. THANKS FOR ALL!! THANKS FOR MAKING ME VERY HAPPY!! THEY ALWAYS WILL BE THE OWNERS OF ROCK AND ROLL!! I LOVE THE RUNAWAYS, I LOVE JOAN JETT!!
I take back what I said, I just watched edgeplay and it broke my heart seeing Sandy crying and wishing they were still together and didn't know they ended the way they did. I don't think it be right to have reunion without her because she really loved this band and without her it wouldn't be the same.
I love these girls! A very cool group. I remember as a child I had a cassette with their live album "Live in Japan" listening to holes. And for almost 45 years, I've been listening to their songs with pleasure, too. The Runaways is a band of all times and peoples, it's a pity there are no such now!
Today would the birthday of Sandy West, she aren't longer here, but I'll never forget that it did part of the biggest female band of all time, she was the queen of the drums. Happy BDay Sandy, we miss you! ♥
Sandy you are definitely the finest drummers in history' Cherie, your vocals are perfect , and for this song ultra perfect, Joaniem I love yur colors, your playing your enthusiasm, basically I am still in love fr 13. Because of you, I am able to scribe this and have such an apology and thank you slayed for the same sentence. I still have the cassette, an ex threw out my vinyl collection saved since 68. What more can I say but you ladies are the finest and I salute you
Watching LIta and Joan in this video it becomes obvious why The Runaways couldn't continue. Even back then, Lita was a metal rocker and Joan had strong punk rock roots and neither was gonna budge.
Those days I tired my friends playing this song continuously :) I was hooked in Runaways, their sound was special and something new at that time. Still like to listen them...
The Runaways was the first all-girl rock band that truly kicked ass. They went against all rules and did their own thing. Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, Sandy West, Lita Ford, Jackie Fox... The true role models for women of this century!
Cherie was on That Metal Show about 2 weeks ago. She still looks good. Great band The Runaways. There music is tight. They play great Hard Rock in Roll.
You're welcome, dgrrrl: The Whiskey was the place for punk in LA in '77, and The Runaways had been playing together for less than a year, so I caught them when they were still...virgins.
Jackie I believe was a great base player. She used a pick I believe. Ritchie Blackmore never wanted a finger puller to play with him because I believe it gives more authority playing the base mainly with a pick.
Radio should've jumped all over this, they never received any airplay (at least not in NY). This was before the "classic rock" format; DJs had freedom to play anything, not limited to playlists like today .
If you were a 70s teen you wouldn't be able to watch The Runaways play any song in their entire career the instant you wanted for free - you'd have to save up and buy an album or listen to the radio for ages in the hope of hearing the song you liked.
Girls weren't supposed to rock in 1977, but The Runaways DID! They had a rough time because they were young, hot and loud and the world wasn't ready for them. The rest is history, or should I say herstory!
They were so great to see in concert! They definitely had the goods to become a top act, but they were ahead of their time. At least we can watch them on RUclips decades later!
It' always refreshing how 'lost' songs like that can sound brightest and funniest than today's 'work songs' or 'big hits'. That's one more proof about how 70's RAW rock is SUPERIOR. And yeah, you get it: that's why I DON'T HEAR ANY NEW MUSIC since 1994. Fuck off all the new rock. I had enough. I have the best: I have The Runaways.
The Runaways made the Most Complete Rock n Roll Song EVER: "American Nights" is THE definitive Classical Rock n Roll Theme, even more than "Jail House Rock", "Whole Lotta Shaking Going On", "Satisfaction", "Anarchy in the UK" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The Runaways --- Best Band Ever!
how cute joan jett wae soo young and her voice was much softer :) but still she is 51 now and look like 30 ... hot and rock as hell love her and love the runaways they make me wish I was born back then
Jackie Fox is the Best Runaway --- the most human, fragile, vulnerable and lovely. Ah, Jackie... you're sooooooooo sweet... delicious! The prettiest. The nicest. The most talented. The most human. I love you, Jackie. My Goddess.
AMAZING!!!! wish I could travel back in time to see them live ... it's so weird though that all those fans were just sitting in their places through the entire concert :O I'd be rocking my ass off in the front rows if I were there xD even if there weren't standing places... would be jumping on my chair or somethin XD
I've been a HUGE Runaways fan since 1976. This is probably the best video clip as far as quality and showing all the girls that I've seen yet. Thank you so much for posting!
Haven't seen the movie. I was in highschool when this album came out. I remember seeing the album cover. They never really had a cute top ten Am radio hit and I never really heard them. I've heard of them over the years and thought vaguely I should check it out. OMG I had no idea.
Man, Cherie Currie had the moves! The Runaways were superstars in Japan, where the above was filmed, but never went anywhere here in the U.S. A couple of years after the above - and after the band broke up - Joan Jett became a superstar here (and everywhere) on her own with her band, the Blackhearts.
sandy west and joan jett are my favourites of the band. thanks for uploading this! i searched so long for recordes of them, but there aren´t on the stores. thanks for the internet!
@vallinera100 The Runaways kicked wide open the gates for generations of all-girls rock n roll bands; but the most impressive is how radical they are in fit all the needs: they are the FIRST, the BEST, the BIGGER, the YOUNGER, the most BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, CUTTEST and the most TRAGIC. This finished any discussions. Perfect. A band made by God!
Sandy was such a talented drummer
Yes, she was a really good rock drummer...rock solid timing, good chops, she hit hard...and she was much prettier then the guy drummers.
Sandy West is one of the best rock drummers period.
The hole band was great
There will never be a female rock band as hot as The Runaways
They're all gorgeous but I just can't stop looking at Lita. . Lita on lead -- she was probably better than a lot of guy lead guitarist peers way back in the day. Joan is perfect. Jackie looks stunning.
Rat Ghost She’s really underrated even to this day.
Jackie was awesome! And still is!
They never found someone that could fill Jackie’s shoes vocally. She was so important to their harmonies
+O'Brien Gerald one of the bassists for Joan later was a guy that was like 15 when he joined her band Gary? Gary Ryan.
Performances of The Runaways have been greeted enthusiastically in Japan.
@Josh Not true. I never heard the Runaways on the radio in the rock era. Since Guardians of the Galaxy, you hear it more often, Americans didnt like the Runaways, or The Ramones and punk for that matter until later in the timeline.
I've been hearing "Cherry Bomb" a lot lately, on an oldies/roots music station on accuradio. . . & just saw the bassist on Jeopardy last night, & watched her Dating Game appearance before going hunting for music. . .
George Pope, Jackie was on the dating game in 1980, after she left the runaways
I just cant believe that girls was only 17 to 19 years old.
What a performers and stage presence.
Lita makes me sigh, shows what it runs in her veins is pure metal
Litas rock poses are just classic !
Badazz musicians... never will be another Runaways
You got that right!!!!!!
Come back Runaways, we need you ! 😷
I saw The Runaways open their set with this song at the Whiskey a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in 1977, and have never been the same. Joan, Lita, Cherie and les girls put stars in my eyes.
Lita & Joan as guitars were so hardcore despite their age! Fucking AWESOME ♥!!!
Sandy is the queeeeeeeeen of drumming
I love Lita Ford!
The way she whips her hair is amazing.
She's a guitar godess. :)
bought this album in 1978, was on frequent rotation in my air force dorm room and later in the apt. oh my goodness! many nights drunk and cranking up the runaways live!!
..even some of my..less partying buddies, knew the words, because I played it often!
in retrospect, 40+ years later, I apologize to all whose sleep I disturbed!!
It's hard to believe these now grown up Women were only 17 or 18 years old girls back then.
They were playing way beyond their ages.
16/16 when they started....Pretty friggin crazy...
I love Cherie's voice here :-)
Is a shame not to have been born at that time, very good, there will never be another band like THE RUNAWAYS only I have to thanks them.
THANKS FOR ALL!!
THANKS FOR MAKING ME VERY HAPPY!!
THEY ALWAYS WILL BE THE OWNERS OF ROCK AND ROLL!!
I LOVE THE RUNAWAYS, I LOVE JOAN JETT!!
Gotta love Lita in her Disco shorts ! R.I.P Sandy West.
I take back what I said, I just watched edgeplay and it broke my heart seeing Sandy crying and wishing they were still together and didn't know they ended the way they did. I don't think it be right to have reunion without her because she really loved this band and without her it wouldn't be the same.

Great to see The Runaways again. Loved seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon 1978. Probably one of the first rock concerts I ever went to.
This song is so badass. I wish Cherie had been able to record it in the studio, it was totally written for her voice.
I remember when every man in the world first saw the runaways, they were like omfg they are awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff Butler except America, no one cared here
Today would the birthday of Sandy West, she aren't longer here, but I'll never forget that it did part of the biggest female band of all time, she was the queen of the drums. Happy BDay Sandy, we miss you! ♥
Yeah every time I watch this , Lita please headbanging! So cool.
RIP Sandy West (July 10, 1959 - October 21, 2006), aged 47
You will be remembered as a legend.
Love Cherie Currie! She is even prettier now than she was back then. :)
Lita looks like she’s having a lot of fun performing this song 🤘🎸
One of the heaviest rock bands of their time.
they're considered one of the roots of metal. . .
LITA FORD in those shorts.. RAWRRR :)
Lita's outfit is so bomb here
Sandy you are definitely the finest drummers in history' Cherie, your vocals are perfect , and for this song ultra perfect, Joaniem I love yur colors, your playing your enthusiasm, basically I am still in love fr 13. 70´S THE BEST YEARS IN ROCK!
wish they were back together :(
Watching LIta and Joan in this video it becomes obvious why The Runaways couldn't continue. Even back then, Lita was a metal rocker and Joan had strong punk rock roots and neither was gonna budge.
BEST BAND EVER!!!!! THEY ARE THE QUEENS OF ROCK!
I can't decide who I like best here in this vid. They're ALL so good! Love this band and their sound!
nothing like this will ever come around again. there will never be another 70s. sorry.
The Runaways were the queens of noise. Joan Jett is the goddess of noise.
Rockers !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
Beautiful!! I am playing along with them, wishing I was in that band. All amazing, talented women.
Damn! Lita Ford is awsome in this vid! Look at her. She's having the time of her life jamming. Born to rock!
Those days I tired my friends playing this song continuously :) I was hooked in Runaways, their sound was special and something new at that time. Still like to listen them...
lita and joan are so badass! they are truly rockstars...and sandy killer skills in the drums are just WOW! these girls really knew how to rock! :)
I love Lita Ford!
The way she whips her hair is amazing.
She's a guitar godess.
If I had been a teenager back then, I would definitely had a big crush on them. Specially Joan!
Thx for Kaela who never lets me forget to keep my rock tracks alive
Oh how I would have loved to have been at this concert!!
The Runaways was the first all-girl rock band that truly kicked ass. They went against all rules and did their own thing. Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, Sandy West, Lita Ford, Jackie Fox... The true role models for women of this century!
I love these leaps that Cherie gives during songs ... It is so lovely and funny at the same time, haha ♥
Thumbs up if you think Cherie is BEAUTIFUL :)
It was fucking awesome!! I was a teenager in the 70's. Best Decade ever!!
Cherie was on That Metal Show about 2 weeks ago. She still looks good. Great band The Runaways. There music is tight. They play great Hard Rock in Roll.
Yes she was indeed!

Cherie's an amazing singer!
I love them. They will always be the Queens Of Noise
I bought this LP in 1977 and it changed my life.
You're welcome, dgrrrl: The Whiskey was the place for punk in LA in '77, and The Runaways had been playing together for less than a year, so I caught them when they were still...virgins.
Since that years, Lita Ford already had a Hard Rock attitude ;)
i fell in love with Joan and Lita why girls are not like this?!!!!!
Joan, beautiful.
JOAN PLAYED WITH ONE HAND!!! WHAT A ROCK N ROLL QUEEN!?!
• Sandy's smile is the most beautiful thing in the world....
Jackie I believe was a great base player. She used a pick I believe. Ritchie Blackmore never wanted a finger puller to play with him because I believe it gives more authority playing the base mainly with a pick.
Radio should've jumped all over this, they never received any airplay (at least not in NY). This was before the "classic rock" format; DJs had freedom to play anything, not limited to playlists like today .
music has been divided and conquered just like politics, races, art, sciences, mathematics, basically everyone is now being divided and lied to.
So raw…. I love it 😍
Awesome to see them again after all these years!
the best band ever!!! this is one of my favorites songs
Love me some Runaways.
If you were a 70s teen you wouldn't be able to watch The Runaways play any song in their entire career the instant you wanted for free - you'd have to save up and buy an album or listen to the radio for ages in the hope of hearing the song you liked.

Jackie Fox is the Best Runaway --- the most human, fragile, vulnerable and lovely.
Ah, Jackie... you're sooooooooo sweet... delicious!
The prettiest. The nicest. The most talented. The most human.

There will never be a band as sexy as The Runaways
I've been a HUGE Runaways fan since 1976. This is probably the best video clip as far as quality and showing all the girls that I've seen yet. Thank you so much for posting!
• Cherie Currie was and is stil so down to earth while being really sensuel and bad ass likely.. so cool combination not to forget her amazing voice!
i love this song!
They were great!!!
The music here is sounding freakin awesome!!!
You gave me the answer, now I got the answer oh yeahhh... Can't stop singing this song! \m/
My favorite band growing up!!
Haven't seen the movie. I was in highschool when this album came out. I remember seeing the album cover. They never really had a cute top ten Am radio hit and I never really heard them. I've heard of them over the years and thought vaguely I should check it out. OMG I had no idea.
I love the runaways I got 2 of there shirts but have to say lita was a super fox back then
I love this performance!

Cool Song, Like It. :-)
I got a lot of grief for liking them. My friends thought they sucked but i liked them. Who knew Joan would go on and have such a huge solo career!
