The Runaways were a very solid group in 1976 when they released their first album with very skilled musicians Lita Ford - Joan Jett - Jackie Fox - Sandy West and Cherie Currie all bringing something to the table !! IMO The Runways will always be the best girl band ever and are responsible for the many women getting into music and are directly responsible for women takin serious in music !!
R.I.P Laurie McAllister, the bass player who past away August 25 2011. It's sad that she died so young :'( I feel so sorry for her family and friends. But now we know, that there's one more Runaway Angel in heaven. I bet she found Sandy there, still drumming, still keeping the beat. 'Cause I know, that The Runaways always will be there for us, no matter what happen. There's nothing like this band in the world anymore. And I'll never forget the day when this band changed my life

Sandy played great drums on here. She told me she doubled the tracks exactly to the second. Not an easy task for a drummer...much easier for guitar players!! That's why the drums sound so good and fat...especially back then!! Seriously one of the best drummers/friends ever...Love and Miss her so much...even though I know she is with me. ~Katt Lowe

I, after lots of looking, finally found video of my old friend Laurie (used stage name McAllister, but it was Hoyt - we knew each other from grade school) in The Runaways. When I was in college and she was still high school, we were in a band together in Eugene, Oregon in the 1970s. I still keep in contact with her mother and sister, although not as much as I should. She was a really good bass player in (last of our several names) "Bottom of the Barrel Blues Band." She got even better later. I was in Eugene a couple of years before she passed away, and I had comp tickets to a show, and she showed up. The band's flute/sax player ran out of gas on the way down from Portland, and I had my flute with me, so I got to show off for her. I miss her a lot, even though it has been years since she died. - EZ
Joan's voice sounds amazing in this song, Lita's playing rocks, Sandy West was an incredible drummer (rest in peace), and I love Jackie's mockingbird she rocks on bass.
metalheadneji that’s actually Laurie McAllister she was the final bass player she filed in Vicki’s place as she had seizures on stage due to a horseback accident so Laurie filled that place until the Runaways split

I met sandy west skiing in tahoe 1979. I had never heard of their band, but I remember her as humble, kind and wanted to have fun. She talked somewhat about her band during the short time i spent with her. Sadly I learn she passed away. One of those moments in time we cross paths with a person that you never forget.
Love me some Sandy West (Drummer) and Laurie McAllister! Two of the Best Rock Artists in one of the Best Rock Bands of All-Time. They will always be missed by Fans of The Runaways. :)

Long time runaways fan. this has to be their best video. always come back to this one. thought i liked joan, lita, or sandy all these years, but i just fell in love with the bassist laurie mcallister. no women rocked, like these ladies did. and they were doing it on their own, before they got out of high school !!! an obvious staple, in rock & roll history.
They sure broke the all girl band personas wide open, it wasn't just that they were bleeding sexuality they backed all of that up by playing their asses off and were very competent musicians. Having grown up in the 60s and 70s this was all new and explosive , These great gals earned their reputation & took the influences that came before them like Iggy , Bob Seeger's early band, UFO, even Grand Funk, and forged their own sound of pure Rock n Roll fun , They deserve their spot in rock history for sure.

I was only a little kid when they were around. I can't believe how good this band was but didn't get the appreciation they deserved. I have "heard of" this band and have heard of Cherry Bomb but I'm really surprised the songs didn't get more recognition and air play. Maybe they did, I was born in '73 but don't remember ever hearing any of their songs on radio and I've been listening to rock n roll since like 1983. I remember hearing My Sharona non stop back in the 70's and remember taking a liking to Evil Woman as a real young buck but I'm just amazed how this band didn't get the credit they deserved. I've been listening to their hits like Mama Weer All Crazy Now, Queens of Noise, and Neon Queens on the Road to Ruin and frankly I can't get them out of my head for the past couple months. I've turned some of my friends onto them too. And it's not like they were just a studio band they really could pull it off live. I like their live performances better then the studio cuts. Just real talent and they rock out. I mean Motorhead is my favorite band so I know rock n roll when I hear it. Well....better late then never I guess to hear and appreciate this band.
They never really had much recognition in the US to my understanding but they did get into the mainstream top 40 in Australia, Japan and various European countries at the time.
Sandy West was a very skilled drummer. Sad she's gone. She's rocking in heaven.

They never really had much recognition in the US to my understanding but they did get into the mainstream top 40 in Australia, Japan and various European countries at the time.
