  • A quick look at how to divide perennial grasses. Decorative grasses may need to be divided because they have developed dead areas in the centre or because you just want more plants. This quick tutorial will show you how to easily dig up, divide, multiply and replant your grass clumps. Doing this will rejuvenate your decorative grasses.
I grow flowers and vegetables in Saskatchewan, Canada. My cold hardiness zone is zone 4. I have an average of 110 frost free growing days each year. The past few years have seen our temperatures go as low as -37C (-34.6F) to as high as 37C (98.6F). Come see what and how I grow in these conditions.

Good day, Prairie Plantgirl and oh so adorable Buster!👋
Great tutorial on getting free plants from what we've got in the yard or our containers.👍
Hopefully, you are feeling all better from that cold.
Like, I was cleaning the bathroom this morning and glanced out the window to see my Bright Lights cosmos covered in soul tickling orange blooms. 😃 And I thought to I must thank you again for turning me on to growing flowering plants...so, THANK YOU!🌼
    Till next time, happy gardening!💕

This was a really interesting episode! We have actually just in the last month, changed our front yard into a low water use area with rocks and native grass/shrubs. (Native for southern Alberta prairie) I had no idea that I could divide up the grass and move it around in future years. 🤯 this is great information to have!

I am so happy this helped. I wasn’t super happy with the video and thought about not putting it out. Grasses are super easy to divide. I can’t wait until my little bluestem and needle grasses are ready to divide.

Are those plants in your front on drip? I see your neighbors prefer lawn. I prefer plants & rocks nowadays.

I just hand water my front yard. I have mostly native (obviously not these grasses) and water wise plants in the front yard. They get watering when the weather is very hot and dry for extended periods. I’ve tried to create a low maintenance, pollinator friendly, neighbour acceptable space in my front yard.

@@PrairiePlantgirl thx for replying. That's my goal, too. We recently moved. The front yard is all rock, put down by previous owners. . It's a little too blah for me.
