Almost every game adaptation they don't tell the actors to play the games. I think it's much more important for the writers/producers to understand or play the games

I don't mean to be unnecessarily combative but don't you think there's an interesting correlation between actors not respecting source material and adaptations being absolutely terrible almost every time?
      goated pfp btw ily

@@Farowlol The fallout show didn't have the actors play the games. I think that turned out pretty well
From my understanding the reasoning is that no movie or tv adaptation of a game will ever be exactly the same, so they don't want the actors to get too into the game character. Actors don't decide the story or scenes they act out just what they've been directed to do
      Thanks

@@Elucidator18 Sure, I don't disagree entirely. The Fallout show was controversial to some believe it or not but playing the games wouldn't help beyond a general understanding of the themes given that it's an RPG with a player made character and there is no overlap between the show or the games outside of the setting itself.
A better example would be that Elijah Wood had never read Lord of the Rings, but most on set had including the director and producer.
I feel like it's just a matter of doing your own research if you care about something, you're not there to play yourself and if the source material exists and is beloved then who is it hurting to check it out? You study for almost everything else in life and it's seen as a positive but for some reason that isn't supposed to apply here?
I also think it's wishful thinking to assume the director is committed enough to the IP or their jobs in general to know how to direct without some kind of input from the actors themselves. I'm reminded of the great Ricardo Montalban being impressed on the set of Wrath of Khan because the director was actually stepping in to tell him what to do.
Henry Cavill is more or less famous at this point for attempting to course correct things he is a part of and people love him for it, well, people OUTSIDE the industry lol
idk mang just seems weird like why not go the extra mile

@@Farowlol Yeah, I don't disagree that in some case it would be helpful, but in my experience it's not something that is often tasked to the actors.
I suppose it also depends on the adaptation type as well. At the end of the day whatever helps great adaptations I'm for though.
Thanks for having a normal conversation online, I can count on one hand how often I have had a civil conversation

Matty you really need to play through 0, and maybe kiwami again. The orphanage is a part of 0 and a big part of kiwami.

Yakuza 0 is indeed peak. I'd say it's time better spent going back and playing the game instead of finishing this series lol

    Suggestion for you both
If you wanna play a Yakuza game without having to play 10 games (which you both should do at somepoint cause they are goated) play judgement
The story telling and the gameplay is very similar and just as good basically instead of being a Yakuza you are a detective (yes you still have silly stuff too in those games)

Matty??? It doesn’t matter if the actors play the fucking game. That’s the writers, showrunner and somewhat the directors job.

    • @bananasean5145
      @bananasean5145 Месяц назад +1

It takes both. Henry Cavill portrayed the Witcher great because he was familiar with the character. the writers were hacks and ruined the show despite his best efforts. If the writers knew the material but the actors didn't you could still get a decent show but it definitely helps to have a template.

@@bananasean5145no, what you are pointing out is how even an actor who plays the game isn’t enough. You can have a good adaption if the creators know the game and the actors don’t, but you can’t have a good one if it’s the other way around. Fallout proves this. It’s the writers and director and such that matters most

loved Kiwami 1, and also what i played of Ishin! and Zero. but for the life of me I cannot imagine a live action yakuza series being good. Anime? sure. Video game, obviously. but this ... i'm here to find out just how bad it is.
