Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is an autosomal recessive (AR) disorder characterized by a defective GP1b platelet receptor leading to a problematic platelet adhesion process (primary hemostasis).
Glanzmann Thrombasthenia (GT) is an autosomal recessive defect in the GPIIb/IIIa (GP2b/3a) receptor on the platelet which leads to defective platelet aggregation.
Ristocetin Cofactor Assay (RIPA) is usually abnormal in cases of Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS).
Bleeding time is prolonged, platelets are big in size, but few in number (Macrothrombocytopenia).

Lab student here, I love your humor in these videos. I was hospitalized with HUS when I was 9 years old. Lots of blood transfusions and dialysis. This was a great explanation, I'm enjoying your coagulation playlist to help me study.
Thank you so much 😊
How is your health today?
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis I am doing great. Just turned 40 and have 2 kids. No long term effects from the HUS, just a few years of follow-up to make sure of that. But- fun fact, I did have a transfusion reaction while I received blood after my C-section(I lost a lot of blood during the procedure). I must've acquired some antibodies with my multiple transfusions with HUS.
Wow 😯
I am glad you’re doing well now!
Please say Hi 👋 to your kids!
Knowledge is not power unless it is organized, thank you medicoses for your great videos being the most organized
You’re absolutely correct!

Hi thanks for explaining this❤
Was wondering what software are you using to draw and record?
Thanks
You should know you are getting me through med school and I'm grateful for that.
Thank you so much 😊
I am honored!
There is a reason for all three actually.
Shiga toxin of E.Coli has receptors for attachment on blood vessels and kidney. When inside the cells of endothelium and kidney it works by removing adenine from 28S subunit of Ribosomal RNA , this halts the protein synthesis so cells die.
Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia is because RBC when pass through damaged endothelium they break down and get distorted. Same reason for kidney failure.
From where did u get this explanation ?
It’s actually 60S
The humour in your videos is great 😂😂
Marvelous explanation 🤝💪

You are GREAT ! ❤️

Didn't understand everything (too much terminology for me), but this does help clear up a few things about this weird condition. I had HUS as a very young kid. Most of my earliest memories are from my time in hospital. I don't remember how I felt, except for the pain and frustration over frequent blood tests and the IVs that were hooked up to me. This was in the early 1980s, too, when the tainted blood scandal was happening in Canada. Fortunately, a blood test I had about a decade later showed that I was clean. Not sure about dialysis, but I was too young to really note much of anything outside of my bed except people: like doctors/nurses trying to stick more needles in me.
Same exact thing here but early 90’s. Were you able to eat and drink? I remember begging for ice chips
@@mikemccool7575 Unfortunately, I can't remember. These are my earliest memories, after all. The only thing I remember of food or drink was when I paged a nurse asking for some orange juice. She told me I could have some after my blood test, which naturally I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about. I don't remember if I ever got the juice, but I did page her again after I calmed down from the test.
I am told that the staff encountered some difficulty in finding something that I would eat. Apparently it was during my stay that I came to hate eggs, but also came to love lasagne. This may have been a matter of my tastes, rather than anything medical, though.
You are GREAT .. Thank you so much 🌸
My pleasure 😇
Fibrinogen is high because of tissue factor is released, right?

Thank you Medicosis..you've made my medical years much easier.💐💐

wild guess… but is it because your using the platelets to clot so that triggers an excess of the secondary clotting cascade system?
Tq so much for perfect explanantion
Do you have any citations for these information? Would love to read your reference books.

ANyone know why the fibrinogen is high? Can't see to figure it out... Is it purely because of inflammation?
