Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is an autosomal recessive (AR) disorder characterized by a defective GP1b platelet receptor leading to a problematic platelet adhesion process (primary hemostasis).
Glanzmann Thrombasthenia (GT) is an autosomal recessive defect in the GPIIb/IIIa (GP2b/3a) receptor on the platelet which leads to defective platelet aggregation.
Ristocetin Cofactor Assay (RIPA) is usually abnormal in cases of Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS).
Bleeding time is prolonged, platelets are big in size, but few in number (Macrothrombocytopenia).

Platelet count is one of the lab tests used by a doctor or a hematologist to assess whether your platelet number is normal, low (thrombocytopenia) or high (thrombocytosis).
Bleeding 🩸 time (BT) is another test for platelet function.

Recently as a 44 yr old I was diagnosed with MDS Myloids Plastic Syndrome after a bone marrow biopsy. I had low hemoglobin levels and very low platelets when I was admitted into the ER with un explained brusing and nose bleed. I was recently treated with azacitidine to bring the blood levels up and control MDS, unfortunately the platelets have not risen and stayed at a stable level. They keep falling. Leading my hemotoligst to believe I may have both MDS and ITP. Oh what joy!!
The signs and symptoms of TTP include:
Purplish bruises on the skin or mucous membranes (such as in the mouth).
Pinpoint-sized red or purple dots on the skin.
Paleness or jaundice (a yellowish color of the skin or whites of the eyes).
Fatigue (feeling very tired and weak).
Fever.
A fast heart rate or shortness of breath.
This helped my understanding so much! Thank you :)
My pleasure 😇

I had a splenectomy many years ago and have been very healthy ever since. I’m afraid of getting the Covid-19 vaccine, because it may cause a possible relapse for some people who have ITP. Do you think my having a splenectomy will prevent a relapse? When I was first Hospitalized my count was 7k, I’m scared of getting sick again.
My sister was recently diagnosed with TTP. She is currently in the hospital getting plasma, chemo and dialysis. However, in the beginning they were giving her platelet transfusions. Are you saying that she shouldn't have been receiving platelet transfusions? I'd love to learn more about this, as I am currently looking for experts in the field. We are looking for second opinions.
Nice🙌thank you☺

Guys I have a test and there's a question I can't find the answer, could you help me please? For the differential diagnosis between ITP and TPP which one could help?
A) myelogram and bone marrow biopsy
B) Coombs test
C) PT
D) D-dimers and fibrinogen
E) Spleen U/S
Thank you ❤
Great video! My husband had TTP, and was treated unsuccessfully with Rituximab. We tried a variety of PLEX (FFP, cryo-poor, etct) and didn't see a marked improvement with any. I tracked Rituximab doses with CDC results, and still have the data if anyone is interested.
Hi Marcia, my sister was recently diagnosed with TTP. She is currently in the hospital and receiving Rituximab chemo, plasma and dialysis. I'd like to hear about your husband's experience. btw. Did you husband have covid prior to getting the TTP diagnosis?
@@shawnaruhkala6786
Shawna,
Many blessings and prayers up your way for your sister. My dad was diagnosed with TTP in September, unrelated to covid. However, now they are saying the covid vaccines are causing ITP and TTP in some patients.
It’s going to be a long road ahead for your sister, but the biggest part is over: getting the diagnosis. Many TTP patients don’t live simply because their doctors do not discover it early enough. Luckily, my dads doctors and your sisters doctors discovered it early enough.
Some really important things you need to remember about TTP are remembering the initial symptoms that your sister had prior to getting her diagnosis. What brought her into the doctors? Many cases with TTP have mild fevers show a week or two before any major symptoms. They may feel tired and lethargic and just “off”. Also- did your sister experience any strokes or mini strokes? These are scary but great indicators of a TTP flare up. It is important to remember this because if she has a relapse she will most likely have her initial symptoms again.
TTP is a very scary disease, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It’s been absolutely horrid helping my dad to cope with this disease. However, knowledge is power. When he was first diagnosed I spent many hours scouring the internet on information about TTP, and I reached out to many people on the internet who had TTP. I suggest joining some TTP support groups on Facebook if you have any questions. The people there are all very kind and eager to help. If you have any specific questions also, I’d be happy to answer them for you. It’s a long journey but your sister is strong! And the hardest part is over. Something to be aware of, the drugs they will give her to combat low platelet count are very strong. Please look into the side effects so you are aware. Also- you may want to talk to your doctor about considering Cablivi. It’s a new drug for TTP patients, not sure whether it helped my dad or not but they gave it to him to see if it would. It’s very expensive but can be lifesaving. Same with Rituximab. Make sure your doctors get that ball rolling on those drugs. The plasmapheresis is the most important part of combatting TTP. It’s a lengthy process, but can really help your sister. Please do your research on this disorder. There is a lot to learn. Good luck with your sister, God Bless.
amazing video
Thank you 🙏
brilliant
Thank you 😊
Amazing
Thank you 🙏
Won’t platelet transfusion be contraindicated in ITP too coz we would make matters worse by providing platelets only for gp 1b 9 and gp2b3a to be further destroyed by antibodies ???
When I was Hospitalized, transfusions were not offered because my Hematologist told me it wouldn’t help. He told me my platelets would just be killed off. I was a bad case, I had a splenectomy. It worked👍 Keep fighting this “thing” you’ll beat it too.
@@NuNugirl I've beat it twice I don't have it right know but it could happen again so I'm very careful
Why RBC became schistocyte, cant get it.plz explain
Please watch the following videos: “HUS”, “TTP”, “DIC”.

Wont the autoantibodies in itp destroy the platelets?
