I own two 1st Gen PST 1-4s. The MOA version is on my M&P 15-22 and the Mil version is on a 16" Grendel. Thanks for giving a great little scope it's due.
I just scored a Vortex 1-4x (Vortex renamed them the Ranger) brand new from Euro-optic. So they're not completely second hand market, yet. I agree with the statement about the reticle. I will be using this optic on an FN-FAL, so it helps to NOT have a BDC that was developed for a particular barrel length/caliber/load.
I'm still using the Vortex PST 1-4x on my 16 inch after 6 years. It light weight and gets the job done. resisted temptation to get the viper 1-6 when it was the thing. but here we are. thank you for the video!
I own versions of both. Both were bought second hand and both are exceptional optics . I run the night force on a straight pull 223 ar style and the vortex on my rem 700 aac 223. On a trip last year my 10 yo son was getting hits at 400 with both on metal torso targets. Blew me away .
For me the lack of scope shadow is phenomenal on the PST 1-4. I returned my 1-6 Viper PST because it went black at the smallest head movement, where the 1-4 is much easier to view. I even sold my Razor 1-6 E for the same reason. I think the older Vortex scopes were more on par with Trijicon than the newer ones. The TR24 is the best scope I’ve looked through, the Viper 1-4 is the second best.Great review
Hi, just a quick question, if you install that scope in an ar with a fixed front sight. Will it block your visual when using it? or it'll co witness? thank you
I like the older Vortexes. They seem to have less feature creep and better quality than any equivalent priced new models.
2.5-10 Gen 1 has been on the M&P10 for a few thousand rounds of Tula without missing a beat.
@@TacticalAccountants That's good to hear. I have the Viper HS 2.5-10 and hope to shoot with it more once it finds the right home.
Putting the side by side perspective of looking down both scopes was exactly what I wanted to see. Awesome review thanks

dude. Really solid video. Thank you.
How would you compare the viper 1-4 to the 1-6? and do you think the 1-4 is still a optic worth getting for below $300?

You’ll see it at 1x, but disappears at higher magnification.
