Good note I missed on the curveball tweak I talk about in here.
Sounds like Glasnow was aware and thought it was more directional down the mound than an orientation change. And sounds like he wants to get back to the more 12-6 shape.
So my final note about keeping the sweep might be moot!
Here’s the full quote from The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya:
“But my curveball, as it was getting more sweepy - I think it was more a directional thing, coming down the mound and getting back to what I used to do before. I think a game that stands out was against Boston at the end of the season. I got back to feeling kind of what it was before and then I’m working on it this offseason. I think it was a little change from maybe taking a little bit of time off. But for the most part my stuff stayed the same. It was just a little bit of a shape difference. I think this year my goal is to get back to more of that 12-6 shape, for sure.”

Interesting on the 12-6 shape as Glasnow is 6’8 and Yamamoto is 5’10. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
Same for Ryan Yarbrough who is a 6’5 lefty and delivers from 10?

@@f430ferrari5I agree! I think it has to do a lot with fastball shape honestly. LAD prioritizes good fastball shape and that generally means guys are behind the ball really well, thus their natural curveball is going to be more 12-6 than sweepy. Not the case for everybody (Bobby miller), but applies to a lot of their arms for sure.

@@LanceBroz sir. You are hard core. 👍. I’ve never seen analysis like this. I have subscribed to you.
I only played little league and only one adult league game. I batted only once and got a base hit. 😂. I played first base.
I used to play quite a bit in the summer when younger with some friends where we would play Over The Line.
I assume you used to be a pitcher. A good one too. Do you coach?

It might also be due to his orientation on his CU. In a PitchingNinja interview a while back, Glas said his CU orientation is 4 Seam as opposed to 2 Seam (kind of like a sweeper grip). Maybe LAD also uses both an FC and the death ball shape? Great vid as usual

Nice breakdown, Lance. What did you think of MLB ranking Glasnow as a current top-10 MLB starter? Pretty bold considering he hasn't thrown more than 120 IP in his career. Yamamoto was 3rd, and he hasn't thrown 1 pitch in the MLB. Maybe a Dodger fan made that list lol

Haha feels like it could be LA influenced
I think top 10 is so based on innings that I’d have him outside it
But on a per inning basis, he’s top 10
Dodgers , with their depth, can afford to have a guy only throw 100-120 and have it be really great, and then backfill with a depth arm. Other teams don’t have that luxury !

I’m gonna have to take away and see approach on this guy. He has rarely I think only once pitched a complete season. If you look at his stats, you think you’re looking at the stats of a closer.

I totally get that. I just think we’re all overlooking the fact that a team with LAD’s depth is exactly the kind of team that can take a risk on Glasnow.
When he’s on the mound, he’s putting up top ~15 starter in baseball stats. And when he’s not, LAD’s backfill SP is better than probably 20-25 other teams in baseball.
So despite the low innings total, they know what they’re getting when he’s out there. And if he’s 120 IP a season and no more, I bet LAD would take that
