/ ericreason / eric.reason.108 www.ercustomwoodwork.com This week we discuss how we dealt with the orange peel issue and get the final coat on the cabinets
Hi Eric. Great video. I have been using BIN primer with Scuff-X as my topcoat and I have been getting a lot of issues with fisheye. The cabinets are always cleaned very well with TSP and 3M scuffing pads, and I’ve even shot two coats of the shellac primer and still ended up with fisheye and my topcoat which is latex by the way.. i’m trying to stick with the shellac primer and the latex topcoat as that is a very easy system for me here in Canada, I’m trying to stay away from the lockers. Do you have any thoughts on why I would still get fisheye even with two coats of shellac based primer dried properly overnight?
I would do a sample on raw wood and see what happens. If you don’t get fisheye then you know their is some type of contamination on the surface you sprayed. If it’s contamination take a mixture of acetone and naphtha 80/20 and cleaner the surface and it should take out the surface contamination.
What's the cheapest hvlp system I could use to spray upvc windows, I've been told graco 9.5 pro is best but $1500 but seems to be ones like Fuji for half price does the finish quality reflect on price/macheine? or is it just machine last longerCheers mate
Mark Phillips great question! There are a few factors to consider. There are three factors to consider when choosing a turbine system. 1 is budget 2 the type of material you will be spraying(thickness or viscosity ) 3. Is duty rating or longevity of the machine. If you are going to be shooting heavy body materials like latex paints I recommend a minimum of a 4-stage unit. If you are shooting lacquers a minimum of a 3 stage is best. As far as apollo, Fuji, titan, graco it’s like cars who do you like best are you a Chevy fan or a ford or Honda etc. there is really not a whole lot of difference they are all vacuum cleaners in reverse. I am going to do a video on equipment soon but I hope that helps in your decision. Just pick the color you like and get after it.
I don’t know what paint you have used but you should have used Sherwin-Williams Emerald urethane semi gloss would be best choice which is self levels the paint.
I have used it all when it comes to water base. I only use industrial wood coatings. Poke around on my channel and see. Emerald is okay for trim but I don’t think it’s fits the bill for cabinets with the other choices on the market.
Sharon Suria on the uppers we sanded them back and just used the bin shellac primer for the color and then shot the clear that he bought over it. Its not the ideal way to do it but I was trying to minimize the cost and use what he already had.
It's not the sprayer, it's either the paint or the fact he was using the wrong tip. Use a fine finish tip(FFT) like a titan green tip so it atomizes or an LVLP ... whoops nevermind, just flicked to the scene and you got one LOL
Saif S if I remember correctly it was Benjamin Moore stay clear. It is not my favorite but it will work. They guy I was helping had already bought it so we just used what he had.
Adem Veliju great question. I personally use a mirka ceros 6” and a surfprep 5x4 block sander with a festool vac(I believe it’s at ct26). If your not doing it professionally you don’t need all of that. We went out and bought him a 5” porter cable sander and hooked it up to a 100.00 shop vac. Hope that helps
Wrong -----Orange peel is to much paint turn pressure down move arm faster dont try to cover in one coat multi thin coat after each coat drys but the wangner may be the problem
Jeff Banner you know you bring up a valid point. I really don’t know what happened because I wasn’t there when the original coating was applied but it appeared that it didn’t atomize the finish enough but you could be correct that he over applied the finish. Thanks for the comment !!!
How do you prevent the back of the cabinets from overspray or becoming rough to the touch when spraying internally ?

Kloes Custom Furniture thanks bob
I’m spraying my doors laying down so spray one side then the other but getting over spray on the painted side. Spraying with airless Graco.
Orange Peel comes from too thick of paint most latex paints acrylic waterborne paints must be thinned when you apply them on cabinets

Gemini is the best
@@indecenthaze8109 Definitely keep that in mind for future project since I bought it already.
Would you be kind enough to share what kind of paint are you using on the cabinets? Thank you

What clear coat product did you use?
I don’t remember that was a long time ago.
I know Lorchem makes a good one. Waterbased

Eric Reason Thank you !
Saif S Anytime!!
@@ericreason6559 great vídeo when you say clear mean the shine finish ??? Like semigloss for instance. Thks
jaime del salto clear as in it has no pigments in it.

No respirator while spraying?
Ryan Moore you should wear one but I will be honest and say I don’t always do it and my long term heath will suffer for it.
I’m guilty of it myself at times
