I agree the packaging screams "I'm a cheap DVD player being sold at CVS"
I rather would take computer with boring looking package than computer with same price and flashy package.
Flashy package is much more expensive than boring looking package, so every dollar wich goes into package is out from hardware.
@@LeGoog2008 or profit
But how many of you keep and use the packaging for the life of the product?
@@g6qwerty It isn't about keeping the packaging. It's about consumer perception. If your packaging looks cheap, people assume the product inside is cheap (it often is).

my laptop buying checklist:
overall aesthetics/ design: "less is sometimes more" - check!
pre -installed software on laptops: no bloatware - check!
internal specs up to snuff: absolutly decent - check!
battery life/ noise/ connectivity/ weight: solid! - check!
looking at the price tag: always too expensive. end up not buying - check!
Is portability a main concern? If checked, why not build a killer desktop that you can connect to via remote desktop with a chromebook or used Thinkpad? If you still insist on having portability without a desktop system, there aren't a lot of options without shelling out lots of $$$. Just gotta think about the energy efficiency of laptops and see if it's worth bumping up the budget to not have maximum desktop power (probably closer to 78% efficiency, but 80% less energy even with the exact same desktop parts).
The closest thing to an amazing all in one laptop is either a Gigabyte aero 15 9y or Clevo P750TM1-G. See ruclips.net/video/O8zcB_EcAyY/видео.html for more info

A lot of people seem confused by the chassis. Maingear did not invent the chassis, Intel did. And no, Maingear did not collaborate with Intel on it. Intel is using this chassis with several brands. Those saying Eluktronics copied Maingear are idiots and dont understand how SI works.
Even customized and spec't out, a good price for what you are getting. I agree though, I like 4x NVMe's in RAID0 and 1 or 2 2.5" SATA SSDs. RAM speed kinda sucks though. My current system is dying, but trying to hold out for DDR5. Pray for me!!
Yea, I understand what you are saying but, even the software is identical for all intents and purposes. Honestly, this looks like one company making the machine and branding it under several different companies.

good laptop, decent pricing, awful website

And brand name. “Eluktronics” sounds like a cheap knock off brand.
And warranty. Check it out.
Bill Farrell warranty is a year isn’t it? Seems normal for most laptops
Nah the website is excellent. Miles better than the crappy links of Lenovo, Dell, and HP.
I'm in love. It doesn't look all that "modern," which is a good thing. "Modern" these days only mean smaller screen bezel, thinner, and less expansion/ports... This laptop looks excellent. Even the packaging and the wallpaper scream early 2000s haha I'm glad someone is still making these.
I love the back IO. It makes so much sense to have power, display, and Ethernet at the rear instead of the side, especially when it's just sitting on a desk.
"It is 100% bloatware free, no rgb controlers, no fan stuff" A few moments later "There is a control center kinda thing to control the lighting, you can control your fan speed here" 🤔
If this is the only thing I'm fine with it. Because acer or other brands have up to 30 Bloatware Program's out of the box...
they'd be stupid to include RGB without a way to control it, lolol. it takes 20seconds to remove if you want it gone and no RGB. why complain?

Intel designed a chasis and gave the rights to sell it to multiple companies. Same happens with cars and trucks

Jay I have a heads up for you regarding that SD card slot.
While yes, it is great that this laptop has a SD card reader, there's a good chance it's not SDHC or SDXC compatible. I also imagine the SD cards you're using are probably SDXC.
I work in data recovery, and see this way too often. Very few in-built readers are SDXC compatible.
Yes, usually SDXC cards will work in non SDXC-compatible readers (like most in-built ones), but they're not intended to work together, and doing so can often lead to your card becoming corrupted.
Just my thoughts as an experienced DR technician. You can probably get away with using the in-built one, but it's not recommended and does put you at risk of losing data where you probably wouldn't with an external SDXC-compatible reader.
Very interesting read
if it is they usually advertise it, like the aero series having a UHS-3 card reader
You test features about laptops that I wish all the other RUclips greats would look at. Nice video.
I love how the fans sit directly underneath the air vents! Many laptops that I have disassembled did not have that feature and they always ran hotter than I'd expect them to run. I also assume that the better airflow makes it a bit quite than other laptops which is one of the most valuable things if you don't have a beefy headset for gaming or if you want to stream and have a microphone.
I can imagine Jay passing by the shelf in a store with this laptop box and saying something along the line "What is this weird brand..?" "Alright, moving on."
The title says 4 pounds
I am from the uk so I thought it meant £4 so I was like wtf
Hey, i tried to use the bitdefender link, but it says not available in my region. I'm in the US which you said the offer is valid in, do they also limit based on what states as well?
Normally I don't go out and buy things that are sponsored by RUclipsrs, but I just got this laptop delivered today. I gotta say that I am enjoying it so far! Thanks for helping me find an awesome laptop, Jay!
Very enjoyable video with a lot of helpful comments. Would have been nice to actually see the thermals since they were mentioned, hear the audio, hear the fans in the different modes. Odd that on the Amazon site they sell two models that look identical, except one has a 1TB drive and one a 2TB drive, yet they are both the same price at $1,999 with the same bundle promotion. Very tempted to get the 2TB one for my couch, bed, and the rare times I travel, or maybe if I want to play at a coffee house :-).
Is the 1 TB same type of drive? NVMe vs. SATA SSD vs HDD?
That fan noise is the worst part about these laptops. I had the Aero 15x with almost identical specs and chassis and that thing was so loud i could hear it over my headphones sometimes. Very annoying.
@JayzTwoCents I bought a 15.6" Mech-15 G2 [i7-8750H, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM, 512gb SSD] a couple of years ago and I considered it a rare find (never heard of Eluktronics prior to) and I've been singing it's praise among my friends/co-workers. I've owned quite a few "high end" and a couple "gaming" laptops for development and work... but this was by far the best I've purchased and, on top of that, it felt like a steal (snagged it for $1100 where equivalent Asus, HP and Dell laptops were pushing $1800~$2200 at the time).
As for software, like you mentioned I was shocked when powering it on for the first time. You get used to uninstalling Norton/AVG, all the random crap the vendor dumps on the device... But in this case it was literally like a fresh Windows 10 install... just a desktop shortcut to their website and nothing else. Was tear worthy~ LOL
Seeing you do a product review of them is pretty awesome. They deserve the exposure.

It is exactly the same, however Eluktronics is the ODM (rather than OEM) so this is the "real" brand. Similar to how Sager makes a lot of laptops for other OEMs.

Nice, good to see some off-brand getting some love. I gave these guys a try 3yr+ ago. Bought their Eluktronics Pro-X P95HR model laptop. They no longer sell this model. At the time when 1070 Max-Q laptops were all in the $1600+, but they had a limited time promotion for $1350. Snagged it without a second thought (after doing weeks of research on pricing+specs before hand). The laptop is still doing great for 1080p gaming content and handles VR decently well. Gaming laptops run pretty hot, so it's a good idea to purchase additional cooling solutions; such as laptop base-pad fans and fan exhaust boosters. Especially having it run on 3hr+ gaming sessions.

My company purchases the most current Dell and HP laptops (both standard and high end). How does the Eluktronic model compare to HP and Dell machines when it comes to performance and support? Would you consider this companies machines worth purchasing for the corporate environment? What kind of warranties come with these machines and do they include accidental damage coverage? And do their batteries suffer the problem of bloating (expanding on their own) like the mainline machines do? And what is the cost a company would l pay?
If you purchase the laptops straight through their site, they offer extra extended accident warrenties and much more. I've been buying Laptops through them for about 4 years now and they are the only company I know where I was able to send my laptop in and they would upgrade parts on it if I wasn't able to, and this includes upgrading from a 60hz IPS panel that had very bad response time causing ghosting to a new 120hz TN gsync panel that was compatible with the laptop and released as a upgrade option a year later.

my settings are to

scan potential unwanted applications - on
scan scrips - on
scan network shares - on

make sure advanced threat defense is on.
now, the program could very well act differently from computer to computer since everyone has their PC configured uniquely and have other programs, etc. if u have more than one antivirus on ur PC, that will kill ur performance and resources and make windows act abnormally. it could very well be just u. I've never had ur issues. also, I don't do automatic scanning, I find it slightly pointless in my case
Yea I downloaded a Trojan accidentally thinking it was something else installed it, ran multiple scans and 3 restarts later all traces of the virus was completely gone it blocked all access to my personal info and stuff so thank god
@@ArtisticallyEligible I have been using Bitdefender since 2015 if I'm not mistaken. Switched to Kaspersky 5 months ago. The problems happen when idling and when I'm gaming. Using Steam, no torrents or anything. Windows always up to date. I only have 1 antivirus running as I know multiple will try to fight each other. I did not however tweak the settings as much as you did yours. Most probably it's just me lol. Happy with Kaspersky so far though
I'm surprised you didn't do a Dell G7, it's basically the same thing and they had a really good deal on cyber Monday AND threw in a 12% coupon.
The Diamonite I’m sure Dell did not send him a free one to use like this brand did
Love mine ! great machine for the price, bought mine as a kit
I love how you can just keep making new Bitdefender accounts, not reinstall anything and simply "Switch Account" to the new one, to essentially reset your trial period... I had 3 months left from the time Linus was sponsored by them. I'm back to 180 days with your link, thanks.
