@@Tydox So, Intel drives RAM at its stock default speed while Hyper-V is enabled because in an enterprise setting, overclocked RAM *can* sometimes cause instability (Edit - While running a virtual machine). Disable Hyper-V / Virtualization in the BIOS and the XMP profile will let the RAM actually hit the speeds you are requesting. Bear in mind that without Hyper-V, you won't have access to Sandbox mode in Windows.
1) and if you have a laptop you can only HOPE that the Bios allows you to enable these profiles or, at the very least, allow overclocking tools to be utilized. My personal laptop (while it’s actually modified desktop parts crammed in a large folding chassis) only allows me to reach 2400 speeds.
I had forgotten about most of this! I just assembled most of my build; waiting for the graphics card, but I'm using an R5 5600G so it's still quite usable as is. It's the first build I've done since everything was still IDE. Had to share the fact that I'm using an Antec case I had laying around...found a couple of QA date stamps from 2003! I'm modding the case a bit and will probably get a new case eventually, but I'm doing this to see how cheaply I could build a decent machine.
I just download all those pop ups that say they’ll speed up the system. Hasn’t seemed to help but I constantly have IT guys calling and looking at my computer. I just gotta get em 1k in google play cards to get it fixed.
Anyone still running their OS on an HDD needs to go to services.msc and disable sysmain service. While this doesn't matter on SSDs much, this always runs in the background, tracking every click, app, program, and function you perform, and usually uses between 2-8% of your DISK utilization all the time. Stop this service and turn it off. HDD's don't need this running.
Yup! Not a lot of people use this, but it instantly closes out of all unnecessary programs and let's you and your machine focus on productivity boosting applications.
Taking apart your current gpu, cleaning the fans and fins, and replacing the thermal paste, is huge for performance. I would do this before overclocking to ensure you can push it to its max without having to worry about thermals.
I used ThrottleStop on an older Intel gaming laptop. Was able to lower thermals significantly, extend battery life, lower noise. Ended the frame stuttering on new scenes and tripled the avg frame rate.
I built my first gaming pc in January 2020 and while it runs games perfectly fine, the start up and general browsing is slower than before. I have the OS on a SSD along with a couple of games and the rest on a HDD. I’m thinking of getting a nvme drive and just installing the OS on that thinking that it might speed things up. I will try your tips and some other from the comments too. Great video as always Jay!
I do music production in Intel processor, i have maximum perfomance power plan and tweaked the turbo boost multipliers thanks to Throttlestop, i locked turbo boost speeds for more cores to the same frequency as one core (basically Intel's Adaptative Boost Technology without spending +500 dollars on i9-11900K). Disabled C1E (reduces perfomance in real time applications) in Throttlestop, and now i always get very high clocks without increasing voltages.
biggest performance boost for a non-new system after checking all the things in the video is giving the system a good clean, make sure the heatsinks are not full of dust. It can bring down temps a whole lot, which lets clocks boost higher. Standard disclaimer about making sure you dont kill your hardware, but realistically as long as you're careful you'll be fine. Better off using a paintbrush to dislodge the dust, dont use a vacuum cleaner.
Great Video. I would recommend "Core Parking" to your system. That means only cores which are needed are running in full speed. The other cores clocks down as low as its possible. So your single core performance takes advantage and your power cost will decrease very much.
I tried these tweaks on my intel based system on my hdd... and its working significantly well than the balanced preset !!! Awesome man !!! Great job !!!
One option that speeds your PC is to increase the Virtual Memory. You go right click on the This PC icon then Properties then Advanced System Settings then by Performance visual effects... etc. you press Settings then Advanced and by Virtual Memory you press Change. Then you untick the Automatically manage paging file size. Then you tick Custom Size and by Initial Size (MB) you write how much Hardware RAM you have (for example you have 24 GB RAM installed you write 24000 MB) and by Maximum Size (MB) you write X3 of your Hardware size. (For example, for 24 GB RAM installed you write 72000 MB). And it speed your PC a lot.

Yoyo had a good tip and chris titus has the one that I've used reliably on several computers to Debloat windows. I don't use his all in one single click through powershell. I go back to the one that he did in the longer video to reduce everything down so that I can maximize windows performance.
I have a 1080 TI on water, and I actually had to go back to stock settings because of how often I used it. Started getting horrible coil whine on my OC setting. But I did use it a mine while I slept for 6 months. Just a thing to mention, is when you have older hardware, you could more easily ruin your card as things age.
For those who don't know how to housekeep, and suffer from overloaded system drive (i.e. C:) and thus _highly unresponsive Windows_ , download a disk space visualiser like SpaceSniffer to show where the biggest space hog folders/files are. It will often reveal all the junk on Desktop or user's AppData or temporary folders that need to be purged. Also use Windows 10 Disk Cleanup utility to remove both unnecessary personal and system files (like Windows Update backups).
CLEAN OUT THE DUST!!! ROFL I'm always amazed when I get calls to work on PCs from people complaining about how slow their system has gotten or how it's acting strange, and one can of compressed air later all is fixed. LOL Your parts can't cool themselves if the inside of your case looks like a fluff bunny. (Or Dust Puppy for User Friendly fans.)
I always let my clients know if the PC is dirty I won't work on it until it is cleaned so extra charge if I have to do it which is about 99% of the time. No pushbacks at all. It's like they know already.

@@Kyharra Not exactly this video, though several that are similar and each of the similar ones have slightly different methods that depend on whether they're hardware or software focused. 1) ALWAYS do a custom/clean install on all OS's and programs you want to add to your rig. You would be surprised at how much third party crap is loaded into a "Bundle." 2) Always set windows update on a 7 day cycle for updates at like 2 or 3 am. Off peak hours are less annoying than when you need the PC. 3) My most important one. SHUT THE SYSTEM DOWN when you are done or don't intend to use the PC for a few days. When you shut the system down for a day or more, the cache files actually clear. Not only that, a PC that stays on without being used fills the fans and rads with an egregious amount of dust and crap. One more thing. Use 1(ONE) NVMe for boot up and store the rest of your stuff on the other NVMe or SSD. Your boot drive should be free and independent of other non-essential programs. You would be surprised at how much data Windows uses.
I doubled my RAM amount, changed the mounting direction of my air cooler for CPU, removed all unnecessary HDD/SSD holders blocking airflow, and changed my CPU fan to turbo mode. I'm getting a lot better performance and my case is cooler to the touch. It's ice cold now where as before the whole side panel would be 100 F. Found this video after I did all that. Still struggling with Star Citizen so I'm looking for additional. Going to overclock my GPU like this video recommends.
On Ryzen the big thing I did other than update BIOS and tune the memory is actually to undervolt the CPU using a voltage offset - my 3800X was hitting 85C on a 120mm AiO and simply applying a -0.075V negative offset to CPU voltage dropped max temps to 65C with zero hit to performance. Single core boost clocks seemed to actually improve slightly for some reason too.

Ive only built one pc. Its a beast. I managed to do it right before all this covid stuff and the cryptos and all that took over. I also built it after i found JayzTwo. Def my fav youruber now
This video made me check my memory speed. It was set to 2133MHz, that's 1077MHz less than what I expected. Thanks, Jay!

Check your start folder now and then, some software likes to turn load at startup back on without telling you, usually after an update.
Was fully expecting one of them to be the "Ifixit! EXPLOSION!" kinda disappointed now...
Can't fix that with iFixit....lol

If you have an old pc the best thing to do is to add an ssd were you put your operating system just make sure that it has some dram and you will notice a big difference in your system responsiveness
SLC cache is enough imo.
if you've had your system for a while now: open it up and vacuum it, the dust build-up decreases cooling rates dramatically. unplug fans when vacuuming them as they may generate EMFs (voltages) high enough to overload and burn components
Thanks Jay.
New is off the table until prices come back to a reasonable level.
Making a few tweaks to get my tinkering fix and add smoother performance to my machine. This is wonderful Info.
When you turn on XMP, make sure you set the VCCIO and System agent to 1.2V or else it will shorten and harm your CPU.
When I turned on XMP on my 3600Mhz, The voltage went to 1.45v which is very high and harmful
Love these vids updated every now and then. Thanks!
When using the auto overclock options available to you make sure your cooling device can handle the pressure the hot cpu is pumping into it, some K series chips can hit close to or above 100c when running an OC
Great tips! All good ideas, especially disabling 'start at system start' options on programs (apps) and cranking up our case and GPU fan speeds.

I'm going to say "don't overclock your CPU/ GPU right now". You generally don't gain hugely from it these days. The extra heat and power will shorten it's life. Not usually enough to be a concern, but if your processor went pop tomorrow, where would you find a replacement right now?
i just replaced my case which has intake fans on the bottom and found out that gpu has better temps in this case, because bottom fans pushing fresh air directly to gpu. mobo chipset also has better temps. now i have 2 intake fans on bottom, 1 back and 1 top exhaust
Nice 👍
Quick tip on the RAM: If you are on Intel and the XMP just isn't holding, disable Hyper-V / Virtualization in the BIOS.
What does it do?
Dude I don't even know if you're being sarcastic
@@alibeksalim7072 This comment is gold. I really do hope hes being sarcastic lol
HDD's don't need this running.
huh TIL
I have a SSD but still, I disabled it since it doesn't seem to be relevant

beware this disables memory compression too
When you're playing a match, just hit Alt+F4 then enter at the same time! Instant turbo boost!
It's always a special moment when someone falls for that.

Great video from a RUclipsr I trust! Ty Jay 👍🏻
I have another one. Enable your monitor to use it's highest framerate! Most monitors above 60hertz will need to be manually changed!
This is spending resources, not saving them. Your pc will be faster at lower resolutions, but sacrifices visual continuity.

You missed the driver updates for your Mobo/chipset and SSD read/write speeds.
Only free if you already have it, but remember to turn on RGB to max out your FPS!
I dnt have rgb fuck
I will have an RGB RAM.
Great Video. I would recommend "Core Parking" to your system. That means only cores which are needed are running in full speed. The other cores clocks down as low as its possible. So your single core performance takes advantage and your power cost will decrease very much.
How do you do this?
I belive there is a free program called QuickCPU that allows you to tweak such things.
Every time you do these Jay, I go through and check to make sure I have them all done.

Glad to see you mentioned the boot up programs in windows. Also if they have an SSD vs M2, get the M2 if possible.
M.2 is just a form factor, it doesn't mean anything. I think you mean an Nvme SSD is better than a SATA SSD
Even though I've watched almost every pc building video there is to watch XD, this was pretty useful!

There are laptop "trays" with fans built in for cooling.
Throttlestop is always your friend.
At least if you spill water on the cpu or gpu it won't get water damaged
@@0202-n7w yeah mr real shit as if those fans weaker than my ceiling fan gonna help
you can change bios settings, can change memory to faster memory most likely, can de-bloat the OS and can clean the system physically.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for this!! Especially number 5!!
ROFL
I'm always amazed when I get calls to work on PCs from people complaining about how slow their system has gotten or how it's acting strange, and one can of compressed air later all is fixed.
Also, if you have a high refresh rate monitor, don't forget to change the refresh rate in Windows to something higher than 60Hz (Windows default) ;)
Thanks for the tips Jay :-)

@@Kyharra Not exactly this video, though several that are similar and each of the similar ones have slightly different methods that depend on whether they're hardware or software focused.
His reasoning actually makes sense to me though as to why these types of videos get re-visited. It's that there is an ever-growing amount of people interested in PC building and using, but they may not search back catalogs of content, even if that advice is similar to what would be advised now. So re-visiting the topic in a new video is likely to hit a new amount of audience, both through subscribers and RUclips search/recommendation.

@@kasper_429 But you're wrong.
1) ALWAYS do a custom/clean install on all OS's and programs you want to add to your rig. You would be surprised at how much third party crap is loaded into a "Bundle."
2) Always set windows update on a 7 day cycle for updates at like 2 or 3 am.
