I am from Germany and let me tell you we do not use shortening but margarine or butter. Why don't you use a spring form? Sure is an interesting recipe and the end result looks good. But how many oz. or gramm is the butter. Not every country had butter sticks with the measurements on the wrapping. Very nice video, thank you!
Hi Connie, this is my sister-in-law's recipe. I wanted to stick to it exactly the way she did it. She grew up in Germany and still living there. It's 169 grams of butter. Thank you for your kind words! Here is the link to the recipe. www.paulaq.com/apple_or_apfel_cakegermanappleapfelcake.html
I made this, today following your video here, and it came out yummy and great!! Thank you much for the recipe and step by step video.. God Bless you...
Usually butter and sugar gets bitten together until white and fluffy on very high speed and only then you add eggs one by one. Then siffted flour and baking powder added to wet ingredients. I am sure it is still a delishious cake, enjoy !☺
@@GuamMamaCooks You know what, this cake is terrific. I made it today with my daughter and we both loved it. The pecans worked out great. I love the mix of apples and nuts (which toasted beautifully as during baking). My daughter hates nuts in cake, but something magical happens when you combine the nuts and apples. This one is a keeper :) We added more sugar and vanilla as a personal preference. I can’t believe this was originally posted years ago lol.
Looks good, I too would love to see it sliced. Also, you would probably get a better result by dicing the apples and possibly mixing some in the batter.
This is the perfect example of a great RUclips tutorial. Good lighting, cinematography, and clear easy directions without a bunch of nonsense added in making the video longer than it needs to be. Great job! I will try this recipe :)
Hi! Thank you so much for your lovely recipe. I've made it several times and I really love it. I also tried replacing the walnuts with almonds and the cake turned out really great! 😁. Thanks
Nora, thank you too for coming back to let us know. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I love this cake as well. It's awesome you experimented and enjoyed the new result!
Hey dear.. I made the cake today for my husband's birthday and it came out so yummy and Beautiful.. just had one question.. should I keep it in refrigerator? And for how long it stays in good state?
Hi Nadia, I added 3/4 cups (1 1/2 sticks of butter or 169 grams). Here is the link to the printable recipe. Enjoy! www.paulaq.com/apple_or_apfel_cakegermanappleapfelcake.html
+Irene Lim Hi Irene, in most recipes for baked goods, the butter and sugar are creamed together first..so I suppose you could. However, I've never had a problem following this recipe from my sister-in-law, exactly as she always makes the apple cake.
Hafa Adai Nadia! I used 1 1/2 sticks of butter (equal to 3/4 cups or 170 grams). I apologize for the confusion! Here is link to recipe: www.paulaq.com/apple_or_apfel_cakegermanappleapfelcake.html
You never put the used flour back in the container after it came in contact with the shortening . It is contaminated ! Cross contamination is serious !
I would add cinnamon on top of the apples, before adding the top layer of batter, and cinnamon on the top of that layer. I am ready to make an apple cake. Very nice.
I wouldn't soak the apples vitamin C is water soluble. You can just sprinkle lemon juice on the apples in a bowl. I always use less sugar in recipes so it was welcoming to find yours. Thanks for recipe.
It rises a little bit due to the teaspoon of baking powder. It's a little dense and a little heavy, but it's deliciously different cake compared to the norm. It's reminiscent of pastries in a German bakery.

I would think so....but use a pan that you know for certain releases the cake very well. Liberally grease and flour the pan. I use shortening and flour.
Omitting nuts will not affect the texture. But keep in mind this is not a very sweet cake, delish though...and should be eaten the next day due to its lower sugar/fat content.
looks so delicious ... could you plz tell me where i can find the recipe or can you plz tell me the german recipe in gramms (we dont have here cups) thanks in advance ... greetings from germany
Hi! I would really love to try this cake, but I want to know one thing first. Was your oven on from the bottom only, or the bottom and top? I asked because the cake is beautifully brown.
I thought sure you would cut it to show us what it look like inside. Will you please in the future let us see what it look like. Or at least let us know you won't be cutting it. The cake did look very good. I plan to make it. Thanks Paula
The recipe works perfectly well but works much better if you substitute sultanas for the walnuts and add a generous teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the flour.
This was a half cup chopped walnuts. The link for the recipe is above and below the video. Here it is as well: www.paulaq.com/apple_or_apfel_cakegermanappleapfelcake.html

Yes
