I made my own version of this cake. I had pumpkin spice pudding in the pantry. So I used it in place of the brown sugar. I also didn't have orange juice so I used pineapple juice@ 1c. This allowed me to use less oil. It came out with a wonderful glaze to it. And the pumpkin pudding changed the color of the cake. It looks like a pumpkin!!🙂 And, it taste delicious!!! Thx for the video 👏🏾👏🏾
Yesim! Thank you so much for writing. I never get tired of hearing that someone enjoyed a favorite recipe of mine. It's almost as if you were at my table. Welcome 😘
It looks just like my grandmother's Jewish apple cake minus the decorative pan. It is really good served with caramel drizzle and a bit of whipped cream.
Miss Nina I have been looking for the recipe for a certain cake for decades. My grandmother would chop apples and put a little sugar, and let the apples brown a little in the bowl. Then she added flour and everything else to make a cake, and adding walnuts, and coconut. Then she made praline and poured it over the cake to harden. It sealed the moisture in. It tasted a little like a more delicious version of carrot cake. I don't know if you'll see this. But I am still searching for the recipe.
Hi Orleans, the recipe that you describe is called an Apple Dapple Cake. It's a classic Southern cake that I now have a reason to bake for my channel, lol. I should be able to post Apple Dapple in a few weeks. I hope that it's as good as you remember! Thank you for writing Orleans, and please subscribe then hit the bell for notification of the video.

Your cake make a very nice presentation. I slice my apples and put batter down then a layer of apples, more like you mother’s version, but I want to try your method. 👍🏼💜

@@atiastitchwort9754 Oh my!! You are correct. In the video the apples that I set aside exuded so much juice that I knew would be delicious, so I cut back on me orange juice in consideration of the amount that I had with the apples. The written recipe is a family recipe passed down to me and has the amount of 1 cup of juice. My recommendation is to just see how much juice your apples produce. Whenever I work with fresh produce I always consider that changes may occur due to freshness of the product. In this case it's apples. Some are dry and some are not. I hope this isn't too confusing. Please let me know how your cake turned out.
I love that so many groups in Europe have their version of raw apple cake. I think this type of cake must be a very old type of cake indeed. They're rustic, but so tasty.

I couldn’t understand how much sugar you added, you said some white sugar plus some brown one, could you please say the sugar amount , thanks dear Nina
I used 1/4 cup of white sugar to toss the apples, this helps them exude their juices. In the cake batter (in the mixer) I used 1/2 cup of brown sugar with 1 cup of white granulated sugar. Sorry for the confusion Farzaneh. Here is a link to the recipe: www.ninainthekitchen.net/single-post/2018/05/24/Jewish-Apple-Cake

Thanks for writing. I would not do much substitution of whole wheat flour. Perhaps one quarter of the amount, because that may weigh the whole thing down. I would add another teaspoon of baking powder. If you're going to test it please let me know how it works out for you.
