@@The_Son_Wanderers Spider-Man can do both lighthearted and dark, and back in the 80s and early 90s, that was exactly how he was written. My point is a lot of stuff in this video that came later went dark by being as disturbing as possible, rather than because it tells a powerful story. The Death of Jean DeWolf is dark, but it explores vigilantism and the legal system. Kraven's Last Hunt is dark, but it shows Peter's heroism by contrasting it with Kraven. What does the Lizard eating his own son show? What's the purpose of that? Lighthearted or dark, Spider-Man stories need to have heart

I have Kraven’s last Hunt. My mom bought it without neither of us knowing what was coming. I finished it at school and hid it in my backpack when I saw the suicide so the teachers wouldn’t decapitate me in public.
There were many awkward silence moments throughout this video. Great video though, thanks for dredging up memories of the clone saga I had long ago repressed away in my brain.
"Darker than Batman" You do realize that in the new comics, Batman killed his entire bat family, turns children into mini jokers, poisons Superman and made him kill Lois Lane and proceeds to kill everyone on earth, then moves on to other Universes where he joined other Dark Knights that also massacred their own worlds to wreak havoc in the multiverse?
@Hello World actually it's one of the most popular comics of all time, it's called batman metal,(some thing like that) basically universes where batman turn evil. The one he mentioned is called the batman who laughs, the first and most popular one there is, while there is a evil green lantern batman, a batman who kills with guns, a batman who is now doomsday etc. You should read it, it's such a popular comic
See, Spider-Man is one of my favorite characters, and when Marvel stops protecting him and lets him out of the normal comfort zone, it is such a stark contrast to his normal persona. This is why, I so badly want to see his darker stories brought to life on the big screen, or even in a well done Netflix show, something to show us the darker side of Peter Parker and alternative Spider-Man characters. Do them as R-rated, and not hold back. Kid friendly is all well and good, but us adults want to see the darker stories brought to life, and done so with great attention to detail with story, even if the stories are slight retellings.
By chance they played the devils game and gosh they payed the price... paaay theee priiice, and now there giving there baby’s live and MJs in dread, and finaly Spiderman doesn’t succeed, and he tears off many people’s heads!
Great list, the narration of the stories was awesome, but the jokes were fucking terrible. And not just for this list but for the other “5 Darker comics” list. Seriously the joke writers should be charged with war crimes.
The dead jokes and long pauses take a great video... It's like instead of just having an ice cream cone you're having an ice cream cone while stepping in shit.
Just a reminder that the law in Civil War was for superhumans to reveal their identity to the government, not the public. Peter got his friends and family killed because he believed strongly in something he didn't read past the headline. He's the superhero version of everyone's crazy aunt on Facebook.
Rhino 'n Chips wait a minute. Peter wasnt hip to the idea to go public with his ID in the first place. It was Tony Stark's idea. When he still refused, Stark threatened to kick Peter, his wife and Aunt out of Avenger Tower. It wasnt until some heavy convincing on May's part he caved and went public.
That was one of the biggest problems with the comic book Civil War storyline. No writer knew exactly what the superhuman registration act actually was, or at least established a consistent concept of it. Many stories and situations contradict each other because of that very reason.
And Marvel didn't care either. Everyone time someone, even those working at Marvel, asked for specifics about it they got some bullshit about how the law was really long and complex.
Kraven's Last Hunt still stands as the best Graphic Novel/Story-Arc I've ever read. This was before I was hip to things like Watchmen or Killing Joke. And you're right. it is because before that Spidy was just the fun dude. The Clone saga though, that broke me as a Spiderman. I was 13 back in 1995 when it came out and I remember being totally bummed out by the ending. Kain was a cool villain though.
I would consider spider man maximum carnage the darkest spider man comic I read. Carnage kills the asylum staff gets a team of super powered villains together and actually wins. Sure Spider-Man, venom, cloak, dagger, and black cat manage to stop him but he has already leveled the city and killed thousands of innocent people.
Wait it was so bad that even Venom teamed up with Spider-man? We need more Carnage damn it. If Spider-man 3 had Venom and Carnage it would be a Legendary film
When death loses its permanence in a story, all of the growth of said character as well as the development of the characters still living through the experience and reconciling with the resulting trauma is potentially made null and void. I imagine this could be the case especially with Spider-Man, a hero who is initially motivated in large part from death. If it wasn't for Uncle Ben's murder, Spider-Man may never have been truly born as a hero, relegated instead to a gimmicky pro-wrestler at best and maybe a criminal at worst. Spider-Man came into his powers as a young and impressionable teenager who was everyone's punching bag and although he has always been a good-hearted youth and smart as hell when it came to academics, he was still a maladjusted young teenager with very little good in his life outside of his family and his potential for a bright academic future. He could've gotten his powers, discovered that his new physicality and abilities could benefit him in ways nothing had before, and this could've lead to extreme behavior that would set him down a dark path before he even knew it, maybe even to the point where there would be no chance at going back. It's not because he is or ever was a bad person, but an acknowledgement that he began as a troubled one. As we all grow and mature, we have our personal struggles that can be more difficult to handle than we realized at the time, and sometimes it might take an extreme change for us to fully understand and grow further as people, and this is true for Spider-Man as well. The extreme of gaining super powers could've been an extreme to take Peter down a road that the hero we know him to be would never dare to follow. In that same vein, the extreme of Uncle Ben's preventable murder was what put things into perspective for Peter, and ultimately lead him down the path of the hero and the man who strives to not only fight crime, but to be better than the man he could've become. If anything, Spider-Man is a character initially built from death, so if there was ever a character who would only be done a disservice by the sudden resurrection of those he has lost, it would be Spider-Man. Before anyone says that Batman is a better example, I respectfully disagree. Batman, although he was both broken and re-forged by the loss of his parents, their death was never truly something he could've prevented. What could a young child do to stop a fully-grown assailant with a gun? Nothing. What could a sixteen year-old with incredible powers enhancing every facet of his physicality making him unto a god when compared to some random thug with a gun do? Everything...anything...if only he had made the conscious choice to do it back when he could. He couldn't have known what would happen to Uncle Ben, but he could've taken the selfless route by stopping the criminal even though he seemingly stood to gain nothing from it while also putting himself in harm's way, something only a true hero would do. If anything, I think that makes Spider-Man's initial failure to act even more significant in a way. With great power comes great responsibility. Peter Parker had the power to act that Bruce Wayne spent his life dedicating himself to, and it was Peter who failed to act when he could have. Peter learned from all of this, even though he did so the hard way. He rose above and from then on sought to be the kind of man his uncle always knew he could be. It was death that originally drove Peter to heroism, and it wouldn't be the last one, either. He is a hero who rises from the ashes of tragedy and death. Despite the grim nature of it all, to take away that experience and suffering would have only served as slap in the face to all that he is and what makes him truly special. If you think I'm wrong, that's understandable and I respect your opinion, but no one would agree with me more than Spider-Man himself.
I guess Marvel Zombies bits were too low hanging fruit. It may have been cheery, but Spidey was the only one among all the zombiefied heroes to constantly admit how wrong it is what they're doing. Plus I remember MZ spidey being mentioned in another dorkly bit.
Mojo Spidey was also the reason the zombies were stopped from spreading to other universes. He literally saved everything from death. Ironically, again by capturing and using Sandman. Spidey really doesnt give Marco a break lol
In analysis, the Marvel Zombie universes are a cosmic horror. Forced to eat each other in an endless loop for someone else's (the reader's) entertainment
Yea boy! Spider-Man's my favourite superhero as well. The Back in Black story really did demonstrate just how powerful Spider-Man is when he's not holding back. One of the few times where, even though he is still holding back A LOT, it's less than usual
@@OnlyCattoKnows There is a difference with honest feedback and judging. My statement is opinionated, judging is when you conclude on something, and make it final. Get off your high pedestal.
Andy Deleon 1) I can't read what you are saying so I most likely will misinterpret what you mean. 2) What I mean is that the writers love beating Peter up and keep on making Peter's life shittier by making things like this, so I want Peter to have more happy moments and actually grow beyond where he started.
Well, there's the Spider Man story where Black Cat was raped, and a villain was sexually abused by his own brother from childhood. Surprised that wasn't on the list.
The Evil That Men Do. The last issue got delayed for a LONG time due to the book being slammed as being too controversial. Many for a long time thought it had been canceled.
There's also the Chameleon killing himself because he confessed his love to Peter and he was so shocked that he just laughed at him. Obviously not as dark as The Lizard eating his son but still WTF-ish for the realistic possibility of someone doing that

Too many long pauses
I guess Marvel Zombies bits were too low hanging fruit. It may have been cheery, but Spidey was the only one among all the zombiefied heroes to constantly admit how wrong it is what they're doing. Plus I remember MZ spidey being mentioned in another dorkly bit.
Mojo
Spidey was also the reason the zombies were stopped from spreading to other universes.
Connors: no! You can't just eat my son!
Lizard: ha ha! Kiddo goes CHOMP!

@@yungsharkgod4055 I honestly forgot I posted this lmao 😂
Yea boy! Spider-Man's my favourite superhero as well. The Back in Black story really did demonstrate just how powerful Spider-Man is when he's not holding back. One of the few times where, even though he is still holding back A LOT, it's less than usual

JoyBox Trickster You have no right to judge someone else either you are not his parent and you are not god.
@@OnlyCattoKnows There is a difference with honest feedback and judging. My statement is opinionated, judging is when you conclude on something, and make it final. Get off your high pedestal.

Why does everyone have to have an akward persona to market but it feels forced rather than actually imperfectly endearing
So true.
Don't you know that's how TV works? It's called acting, nothing genuine.
I GOT THAT SANDMAN JOKE.
DEADPOOL VS DEATH STROKE SPIDER-MAN In the words of Cap himself, "I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE"
Video was great, jokes were pretty bad my man.
The joke is that they’re purposely bad from what I can tell.
@@blue-eyeswhitekirbo2543 Nah. They suck
I never got why he would give up so much for Aunt May. She's like 70 years old, it was going to be her time soon anyways.
It was cos they wanted to make Peter single again. That's it. That's the whole reason.
They love fucking with Peter's life... Like dude, the guy already suffered enough, lay off with the painful moments okay?
NS120121 but it’s dumb 70 year old tia who will die soon any way of wife an unborn child
Andy Deleon
1) I can't read what you are saying so I most likely will misinterpret what you mean.
2) What I mean is that the writers love beating Peter up and keep on making Peter's life shittier by making things like this, so I want Peter to have more happy moments and actually grow beyond where he started.
NS120121 I meant to type like why would you save some you has like 15 years max or your unborn baby and especially if it comes from the devil

NONE of your jokes land for me, all they do is just lengthen the video. Interesting video though I guess

And Dr. Doom. Twice.
With no climax. Like he was just some random bum om the street
You can tell he was about to scream at the end
The dialogue in these just gets cringier and cringier.
Well, there's the Spider Man story where Black Cat was raped, and a villain was sexually abused by his own brother from childhood. Surprised that wasn't on the list.
drksideofthewal what's it called? Research purposes...
The Evil That Men Do. The last issue got delayed for a LONG time due to the book being slammed as being too controversial. Many for a long time thought it had been canceled.
There's also the Chameleon killing himself because he confessed his love to Peter and he was so shocked that he just laughed at him. Obviously not as dark as The Lizard eating his son but still WTF-ish for the realistic possibility of someone doing that
It’s like when batgirl was sexual assaulted maybe raped by the joker and paralyzed and photos were show to her father him Gordon
wait hold on now bro pleas send me a link too that story i wanna read it because it cant be real
This dude said "beating up a young kid" like Spider-Man was helpless.
The host was trying _W A Y_ too hard to be funny and all the odd silence was just a waste of time in my opinion just to get a couple extra minutes in the video
