What we should’ve done before insulating our steel building/garage…

- If you have a steel sided building like ours and don’t have this rat/mouse guard, chances are you have quite the rodent problem!
Our local Amish who we purchased all our steel from bent us up some nice rat guard trim for our steel building.
We are spending quite a bit of money on insulating our garage and without this our chances of mice and other rodents are greatly increased!
Here’s a link to our other channel if you enjoy old cars and hanging out in the garage and wrenching on old projects.

Job well done, young man... especially when you have an incredible assistant like Ms. Hailey!! I believe she deserves two thumbs up (and maybe a couple dollars extra come payday)! Looks like the firewood side may have to wait till spring...or not. Wishing you and your lovely wife and beautiful young ladies a Happy Holiday season. Take care, be safe and God bless!
Thank you Jim! Take care and take care as well!
Happy Holiday season lol MERRY CHRISTMAS
👍
You get a thumbs-up just because it is wonderful to see a daughter working with her dad.
Thank you Ron
Keep your children safe, it only takes a second for some monster to find a kindness to expllot, trust your gut. If it’s telling you something is wrong listen, do not override that! You never want to feel the greatest loss a parent can know. Its a particular hell if disappear, I’ve seen both sides of family slain, all of them. Only half was worthy of life. Pacifism is a weakness. Good information on R board. Biochemist MD-PhD indeed safety first! Germany was right, always. The day will come you’ll know or be extraordinarily blessed.
Great progress & thanks for sharing! Blessings to your family in this festive season & beyond🤗💕🇨🇦
Thank you! You too!
You have a great helper there Chad , so sweet 💕🙏😊. Merry Christmas to you and all your lovely family , and a blessed New Year .
Thank you Carolyn! How have you been?
Love the music @ the beginning! As a master electrician, I feel obliged to strongly caution you against the use of the "suicide cord" shown being plugged in at 1:17. The blades of the male plug are live whenever the cord is attached to the running generator and the circuit breaker is on. A much safer installation would be to use a male flanged inlet on the building and a matching female twist-lock receptacle on the end of your cord.
Thanks for that warning, That makes perfect sense. If I am ever around a generator like this and that cord type is around will know to warn others about this. Don't touch those tabs. Best to not have them there in the first place.
I wonder why they are called "suicide cords"... ;)
@@mikek1187 when one end of the cord is plugged into the generator, live blades are exposed at the male connector on the other end of the cord.
@@tracymathews4122 I know, hence the ";)" wink emoticon at the end.
Another way I could have put it was "/s", to indicate that I intended my post as sarcastic.
Some folks assume stupid. Says a lot really.
So happy you found this wonderful property. The improvements you've made so far is awesome and life is much easier. Can't wait for spring and summer to see the garden go in. Haley and all your daughters are such beautiful, talented, helpful, respectful girls yes your wife isn't bad either. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄. Blessings to you all. 😊🇺🇲
Thank you Patricia. We’ll definitely record more garden videos next year!
I love how you are working with your daughter and showing her how to work, so many women never learn how to use tools or think mechanically, it’s a life skill she will carry forever 👏👏👏💞
But please get rid of that cord you’re using on your generator that you plug into the garage that’s dangerous as hell 16:12
So the rat guard is a nice little project with long term benefits. It wasn't necessary before you insulated the inside, because there was no cavity to nest in (probably why the original owners never bothered with it). So at least you recognized that creating a cavity for rats to get into means you have to now address the rats.
But what I like most about your videos is that you don't dumb anything down for your kids. You treat them as intelligent individuals, and it seems to make them willing to learn how to do things, which means you have educated and knowledgeable help for your projects. They're still kids, but they grasp the idea that a lot of stuff needs all hands on deck, and they seem willing to jump in. That's a great work ethic to instill, and that's been lost a bit, in the last generation or two. Two thumbs up, sir. 👍👍
What a handy daddy's helper Haley!👍 She deserves a nice reward. Merry Christmas to all your family.
Hailey got her reward ... A loving dad that talks to her respectfully & is building a beautiful relationship working so patiently. Awesome!
Thank you!

Another great episode ☃️I've got my own version of Haley, Rosie's a redhead too❤ she turned 44 on Tuesday 😂🎉. We always had at least a dozen barn cats 🐈 so varmints weren't much of a bother. Merry Christmas 🎄 to you all!🌟
Oh wow! Those red heads are some kick butt kinda girls! 💪
So nice to see your daughter helping and learning how to do things the right way. I love the snow and ice shots. I live in Florida and its perma hot here. It all looks awesome!
I lived in Dunellon Florida near Ocala for a while many years ago. It was pretty hot and humid
Wonderful teacher to your daughter. This was a nice video.
Thank you Robin
I used to be a rat catcher at an old WWII aircraft hanger which was filled with brewing barley - we used traps & I even chased one up the airdrome on my motorbike!
Well done young men hailey you did a wonderful job of helping dad happy holiday’s and god bless

Good video my man… def needs to be done… great to see you have awesome help too!
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Punt? I like the concept of 'Rat Guard'.
Excellent. Father daughter construction team. Way to go Haley you rock.
Thank you
Rat guard! What a great idea!! That would be much more efficient than the 300 cats I trained to stand guard around the building...
Lol
Great job working and teaching your kids.
Thank you Lisa!
I always enjoy your explanations to the girls (and us) as you're doing a task.
Thank you
Great job Haley. Super helper!
Thank you George
I never even knew that there was such a thing as a rat guard for steel buildings. I may get some of that product for my steel building. Thanks for showing us your homestead and the improvements you're making, Chad.
Thank you Robert
Rat guard is a great starter strip for installing your panels. Make sure it is installed level and all you have to do is slide the top into the j channel and put the bottom of side panel on rat guard. It elimenates having to line all the bottoms up and holding in place while screwing panel. Makes life a lot easier.
👍👍💜 for awesomeness Haley!!!
Good job on preaching safety to the young helpers 😊
Thank you Doug. Have a great weekend!
Note to self, inspect garage for mouse guard along the siding...
Thanks for sharing this!
Looks like you've got some good help there. Good job dad and Haley!
Thanks David! She’s an awesome help!
You made it look so simple👍💞🙋
It was the most boring thing to do! Ever! 😆
I'm buying a property with a big shop and that's the first thing that I noticed was that the building didn't have a rat guard. So now it's on my to do list once we close escrow.
God bless, and have a wonderful Christmas
Thank you Darren
Seen this happen on several other RUclips videos on not using rat guard.... good job everyone!
Great job helping your dad Hailey
No better time spent than time with your kids. You’ll never regret it, and they’ll never forget it. Merry Christmas.
Happy holidays family and best wishes from Columbus Ohio USA ❤️
Thank you Rusty!
Take for the video. Happy Christmas to you and your family
Thank you Terry! Hope you’re doing well.
LOL I love your self-effacing "Take care of your eyes so that you can help Daddy after HE goes blind" quip, Chad --- making light of a serious matter, while at the same time strongly driving home the importance of safety. Plus of course, it might also inspire your little ones to remind you if you forget to don safety gear, just as you always remind them to do it. :D :P
Great job!! Hailey is a great hard workin young lady! I'm venture to say she's a daddy's girl and a lot of help. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy ya'lls beautiful family and homestead
Thank you Mike!
Merry Christmas you guys from south Texas
Thank you Gregory! You as well
Good stuff and family contributing to learning to be a team.
I recommend a pebble style rocket mass heater. They are easier to build and modify later than other rocket mass heaters. RMH will drastically reduce your wood usage by ~70% you'll be spending less time loading the stove. The wood will heat the mass and then the mass will radiate heat for many hours after the fire.
great job!
Thanks Kirk!
I never cared much for cats myself, but my little Lhasa/Yorkie was the best mouse catcher you ever seen! Was also great at catching moles or voles too. She had the patience of a Saint! She sit next to mole/voles mounds forever till one would come close to the top of the dirt mound and she pounce ripping the critter right out of the dirt. She was always proud of her catch and she bring it inside the house still very much alive and have to show it to me even in the middle of the night. Fortunately I could tell her to take it back outside and kill it now. You done a good job! I find it dead at the front door in the morning. When I cut my field she followed in front of my mower waiting for a field mouse to come running out and she nab it every time too. She was a terrific hunter! Anything she thought might’ve too big for her to kill, she come in the house and let me know she had a critter she needed my help with. If it had moved she sniffed it out till she found it! Sometimes we walked the whole perimeter of our 5 acres making sure she was happy the critters were gone off the property. She never ceased to amaze me
Good to see you both again
You as well Allan! Take care!

Nice work! It never seems to amaze me how people build things like your garage and don't do it right then someone like you comes along buys it and then has to fix it. That pretty much happens a lot. Keep up the good work. Todd from da U.P.
Yeah it always seems to happen to me! 😂
@@9252LIFE LOL, your not the only one, LOL Been fixing other peoples lazy mistakes every property we've ever purchased. Guess it is just part of ownership. Kudo's for getting it done right.

Well dude I ha two Predator generators I freaking love them if you change your oil every after every week and you use it my runs on my camper all weekend long I can let it run for a week straight and it’s so perfect I’ve had them now for four years and they run amazing the world doesn’t need negative people keep up the hard work
1st time viewer and commenter. At 1:14 that is what we electrician's call a "Suicide" cord as the male cord caps are on both sides. Also the 50 amp range outlet is a NEMA 1 or an Indoor rated receptacle and should never be installed outside. Please be careful. God bless and Happy New Year.
Thank you. This is just a temporary solution until the grid power is installed
Another great video!
Thanks Tim!
Nicely done, Chad! Haley is growing so fast…
Thanks Gary! Yea they’re all growing like weeds!

@@9252LIFE i meant Helper
I kinda figured you had this covered. I was just making sure😀
Thank you John!
I wish I had installed that on my pole barn when I built it. Besides rodents, I got allot of snow that blew in from the bottom during the blizzard that just hit western New York Christmas weekend. I had a couple of 2 foot deep drifts in side. Looks like a warm weather project for my 2 sons to help me with.
THANKS,

i am doing a similar project we put up an all metal building have wired it and am insulating it myself about ready to start putting wall board up , you might use spray foam to seal the wall from the inside on the wall with the fire wood until you use up the fire wood
Hey good morning you guys how you guys doing this morning sorry I missed you guys haven't been kind of busy myself so I hope you guys are doing a good job got me some new toys this year but I got a new blower getting the other blower to my friend so this one was a little expensive for Christmas gift and a birthday gift all right you guys have a great day and God bless you guys
Good morning Wade! We are great! Hope you’re doing well!
My daughter was always my best helper too, 2 boys were lazy! But I could always count on my daughter to help!
❤️
Hey buddy I just ran across your channel because you had something in the description about insulating a pole barn!! I just built a 60’x80’x16’ pole barn and I’m trying to deside on witch way I’m wanting to insulate mine!! But I had seen your awesome Chevy pickup and the Chevy jacket that you was wearing!! The only thing I could think was he was the man to be watching for sure!!! Awesome video buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!! Oh and awesome work to your little girl I’m definitely glad to see that she isn’t sitting inside playing video games!! Lol!!
Lol thanks man! I have a couple Cummins also and had just purchased the Duramax as I needed a long bed and couldn’t find a rust free Cummins. But the Duramax is just awesome!
Hey y’all!!! Have a Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅👊💪💥😂
Thank you Tina! 💪👊💥
Well dad, perhaps you should move your safety glasses from on top of the bill of your hat to below the bill. Makes the safety argument a little more believable for the young-uns :)
You must’ve missed the part that I told her she needs to wear hers so she can lead me around when I go blind from not wearing mine.. 😝
@@9252LIFE I did! That's hilarious!😆
On the side with all the firewood, you could stuff the voids with steel wool or Brillo pad as a temporary solution until you can install the rat guard.
We just put some pest control closed cell foam
In the larger voids and left the smaller ones open which shouldn’t be a problem.
We have a 24x48 metal building that is garage/shop/apartment. Rodents were a problem for a while. We had the bug guy (pest control) come and set traps. When he was there he told us to leave lights on since the rodents don’t like the light. I have heard RVers leave a light in their engine compartments in certain parts. We left the hoods up in the garage with a shop light over each engine and they quit tracking eventually. All the best!
Interesting
My brotha , it’s been a while ! Beautiful day huh, yikes lol 😢
Hope the gals are all well, your little helper never fails to amaze me with her willingness to help and she’s adorable on top of that ! ❤
Do you have a PO BOX to receive things ?
Hey it has been a while. Hope you’re doing well! Man we woke up this morning and we have about 11 more inches of snow! 😆 We’ll be busting out the ole plow truck again today. Yes we’ve got a P.O. Box listed on our about page. Have a great weekend!
I think ya might have a defective cat? Seems more interested in playing with the mice than chompin' down on em 🤣
Yes! Definitely broken! 😝
Whoever built our metal building, I know it was done by a contractor though! Regardless they didn’t put that metal flange you installed on you’re building. Obviously there’s No keeping the mice out as it is now. Guess I’ll be looking for some of that metal clanging in the future! Just goes to show just cause someone supposed to be a professional. Doesn’t mean their doing everything the right way or taking short cuts to save money for themselves!
