I don't think ppl notice this about Alex Lifeson...
Most guitarists have their style that they usually stick to, but Alex plays all styles and often all in one song. This is a great example of that.
    Droning chords
    Palm muted arpeggios
    Clean picking
    Chugging power chords
    Harmonics
"Distant Early Warning" is another good example.

This is why I’m here. What an insightful and informative comment! I honestly can’t think of another guitarist who uses natural harmonics like Lifeson. Such a weird, unpredictable and exciting writer and player

That's because it is Prog Rock (Progressive). The style changes multiple times throughout the song. Like for instance YYZ, and other bands that are in either Prog Rock or Prog Metal ex: Yes, Pink Floyd, and Genesis. Definition of Prog Rock: "Progressive rock is a type of rock music with complicated musical technique and composition". It is also known to change the style of the song throughout different parts of the song.

Underrated Album. Power windows is absolutely one of their best. Its the perfect blend of synthesizer/keyboard and instruments, of any album ever. Really shows off how talented they are. Geddy especially... these guys are all monster musicians

So good to see ya back! The Big Money is the brilliance of Geddy Lee. The bass on this track is in the pocket note for note.
15 years old in 1985, playing my Japanese p-bass because I can’t afford a Rickenbacker. Trying to figure out this song…poorly lol

In my 'Top 3' Rush albums. I was 16 in 1986 when it was released. It was just so sonically rich and full of fresh and new sounds. They moved forward while still retaining who they were. I'll never understand those who shipped out after 'Moving Pictures' in 1981. They really deprived themselves of some fantastic music. If you don't move forward you end up being a band like 'Dream Theater', constantly repeating the same themes and vibe. I'm so grateful that the prog bands of the '70's like genesis, Rush and even Yes had the courage to escape their legend and risk it all for a better future.

This is the first album where Geddy ventured into using the British-made Wal bass with its rubbery popcorn style tone instead of the usual grunt from his Rickenbacker or Fender Jazz. He would use the Wal basses for a few albums and then return to the Fender Jazz bass for the 1993 Counterparts album.

When I saw them do this one live, they had left and right rear PA speakers hanging from the ceiling. At the start, Alex’s guitar came in from the front, and the keyboards responded from the rear. Different parts of Neil’s kit were sent to one or both of the rear channels as well. The sound was whirling all around us. Rush had the best sounding shows Ive ever heard.

Welcome back! Quite a change in sound but fun and different. At first it took me a few plays to really get used to it, but that was rather normal for a new Rush album. :)
Geddy pulling a riot of semi-funky stuff there on the bass.

Welcome back, took me awhile to see that you was back.
I've been following you all the way this Rush journey.
I love Rush, my favorite band besides the Beatles.
And like your journey, I started with Rush from the beginning. I have the albums & ticket stubs to prove it.
But Power Windows was the first Rush album i was disappointed with. There are a couple of outstanding tracks, but most of it I was so so about.
    Grand Designs
    Manhattan Project
    Marathon
    Those three, great stuff.

According to Alex Lifeson, Rush wanted to combine the strongest elements from 1982’s Signals and 1984’s Grace Under Pressure and use them for Power Windows. For him, this was one of the most cohesive and satisfying recordings he and his bandmates ever put together ... Power Windows featured elements of musical material Rush never used before, allowing them to break several boundaries as recording artists. This was the album that Rush agreed to not hold any of their creativity back. - excerpts from ClassicRockHistory
Power Windows is Rush's most accomplished album to date. The band were able to go beyond their past triumphs and achieve a staggering advance in every aspect of their performance : playing, writing and in the sound clarity of the recording. - Visions: The Official Biography

Rush became one of my fav bands in the late 70s and still is. But was never a fan of their stuff after Moving Pic the synth took over their sound too much for me There are some i like but most sound the same to me I have been called not a true Rush fan for saying this But if i make it to my 80s i will still be rocking The Fountain in my hearing aids

Oh my god! Someone who actually listens through speakers instead of headphones! I cannot stand a set of headphones. I worked in radio and television broadcasting as an engineer for a while and one thing that I used to always hate was when I had to put on somebody else's cans. I just hate it hate it hate it! Give me the open air sound of some speakers any day. Hope you're enjoying your rush visit! Something that could definitely be turned up to 9:00 on the speakers just don't blow the cones! Peace!
