I have been captivated by this Miriam Makeba song since first hearing it in the jungles of Vietnam wayback in 1966...it is still one of the most powerful things in my limited little life....thank you Mr. Salter....thank you Russ....and thank you Miriam !!!.

So beautifully accompanied by SIVUCA on accordion, and James 'Jimmy' Phillips on bass. In Copenhagen (Tivoli's Glassal), when Miriam was the featured star for the whole month of June 1965, as well as in Stockholm (Bern's) February 1966, the composer of this beautiful song William 'Bill' Salter was accompanying on bass himself. Btw Bill, who lives in New York, turns 88 today (June 29th, 2024). Also in this trio was , also still highly active as a musician and also New York based, percussionist Leopoldo F. Fleming.
