To be fair, her straining/bruising her Achilles before the break probably needs more time than a month.
I had an achilles tendinitis. I sat out 4 weeks, but it took me till the offseason and 2 months of rest and no sport at all before the pain was completely gone. So I agree. Those 2-3 weeks off before practice started again is most likely not enough. Achilles problems are different from a sprained ancle.
That's what I was wondering about . I remember her getting injured, but then I never really heard about how severe an injury she had .
They wouldn’t be playing her if she was still injured. That injury was not severe and she was walking around on it without limping the second half of the game after she came out from the training room. There was a photo of her walking around on it a few days later without crutches. With just a few pieces of tape on the ankle. It wasn’t severe.

Aces are struggling now so sticking with vet players. CC could really help Kate with her game and confidence. Would be great to see her in a Fever jersey

This was entirely predictable, that Martin's time would go way down. Aces got Hayes, and Grey came back. Now they have depth, so Martin wasn't gonna get much time.Unlike the Storm and Nika, they are actually getting her gametime experience, and developing Martin.
Nika and Kate need to come to the Fever. That would add another 250,000 views to whatever Clark brings in. Jersey sales would also explode the league

I second that! They are both in losing situations as far as playing time.
Rather bring in players that can help the team win not sale more merchandise. Kate is basically no longer playing and Nika sits out every game. I am a fan of both of them. I do think both are better than the Fever's 8-12 players. If either got cut, Dunn probably would not touch them. I do not have any confidence in Dunn.

Wheeler's contract is up after this season. I am not a fan of Wheeler. Early on she like many of Clark's team-mates would not give the ball back. But in this final push i find Wheeler is a cheer-leader on and off the court and we don't need anyone coming in. What ever the Fever do this season they will do with this team, coaches included.

To be fair, Kate injured her ankle in the last FULL rotation game she played. She had to be carry off the court so her minutes could be limited due to not fully recovering from injury
It could be. I just hope it ain't anything else. A good amount of fans where there just for her. Hopefully down in the road towards playoffs she gets more minutes because their perimeter defense is lagging bad.

I think it's fair to say Kate minutes have gone done for a good reason. Better to be safe when a player damn near ruptures their Achilles. Not the type of injury you take chances with, especially knowing how valuable she was to them to start the year off.

My only concern is that Kate, as a WNBA player, feels very similar in role to KLS & KLS is already coming off the bench for them, so do you want to have multiple players like that off the bench & playing the same-ish position (I know Kate played a bit at the 4 at Iowa, but she's too small to play it in the W)?? But yes, Kate deserves to be playing at least around 10-12 minutes, she's a good shooter & useful with defense & rebounding. And a good locker room presence too.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes, I can see the Fever trading Berger for her.
It will most likely depend on the draft and who they can sign with the free cap space.
What is their cap space going to be? If they opt out of the cba this November and opt out of their contract and sign a new one before the season starts. Their cap size is expected to be much 5 times larger than it is now
@@bateseanderson2667 As far as I know the new TV deal (and with that a huge rise in the salary cap) will kick in after the 2025 season. BUT because there is an expansion draft, noone really knows how much money any team will actually have. As of right now, the Fever have around 550k. A max for Mitchell (around 250k) means they still have a max spot open. But like I said, noone really knows untill after the expansion draft.

Boston has her own cheerleader on the team so they would have a spot for Kate Martin also, Berger gets 0 minutes anyway and Wallace should be released at the end of the season. I said all along they only drafted Kate Martin, because they saw her marketing value (Nr.4 merch seller even tho she gets few minutes) and because she won´t be toxic in the lockerroom because she knows her role.

Trading for Kate Martin would be nice... but the Fever have other things to do first. Like the Fever absolutely NEED to sign Satou Sabally in the off-season, she's a free agent. Then I would like to trade Nalyssa for Dorka Juhasz. Dorka fits better than Nalyssa and can provide depth at both Center and Power Forward. I also feel that the Fever should draft Sonia Citron, if she's within range of their pick, and use other picks to trade up if needed.
After these things are done, yes, I like the idea of trading for Kate Martin.

Nice to see you changed your mind from the beginning of the season. You were saying at the beginning that she wouldn't work well on the Fever. I personally think that what ever is good for Clark's mental state is good for the team. I think Lindsey Wahlen had a center she wanted on her team from the U of M, similar concept. If martin keeps clark grounded and keeps her in high spirits through out the year she gets a roster spot.
Kate's probably fine where she's at. Statistics are never the whole story. Suffering a severe bruise to the tendon when she hurt her ankle on July 16th might have more than a little to do with her subsequent playing time.
I would love to see the fever replace wallace with martin; rotate Hull and Martin. (Clark, Berger, Mitchell, Hull, and Martin - and run, run, run)
You may see the Aces clean house after this season is done, I can see Hayes and Gray definitely gone, Young hasn't done much as well as Clark. Martin being injured is more likely why her playing time has been cut. You may see the Aces with A'JA, Plum, Young, Martin and build around those 4 players while everyone else is traded or cut. The Fever will keep Clark, Boston, Hull, Dontas, Samuelson, Temi and either cut or trade the rest of the team freeing up money for top tier players.
Martin will be one of the Aces top bench players next season, after the Aces lose a few players next season. Her teammates loves her just go to the Aces youtube page. She is coming off an injury so there not gonna rush her.

It was pretty clear to me from draft day that the Aces only drafted Martin for the attention. They couldn't market Wilson, Plum, Gray, or Young. They knew Clark is the greatest draw the league will ever see (although they'll never admit it) so they selected the next best thing available. They never planned on playing Martin and probably won't from now on.

To be fair, her projection was, at best, a solid, ever present rotation player. We'll see where Martin is three or four years from now.
First, the Fever absolutely need to sign Satou Sabally, at Power Forward.
Second, I would like to trade Nalyssa Smith for Dorka Juhasz. Dorka seems like a better fit with Caitlin's style of play than Nalyssa, and will provide quality depth at both the Center and Power Forward positions.
I'm also hoping the Fever will draft Sonia Citron in 2025. I would give up picks to trade up and draft Sonia, if it's needed.
The Fever have to make a decision about Kristy Wallace too. I like Kristy but she will be 29 next season and her past injuries are a bit worrying. Trading Kristy for a Guard who will play a defensive role (Kate Martin, or Nika Muhl, or even Rae Burrell if they can get her) could help with roster balance.
The 2025 Fever:
G: Caitlin, Grace.
G: Kelsey, Kate Martin or Nika Muhl.
F: Sonia, Lexie.
F: Satou, KLS, Saxton.
C: Boston, Dorka, Temi.
That's 12 players though, so Wheeler can't be re-signed and the team will need to find a way to move Dantas.

The big problem with your thinking is that Christy sides will try to hang onto Wallace even though she offers nothing to the team.
Most rookies don't get a ton of playing time... To move her to Indiana just because she played with cc in college seems like a reach...

She praised Aja Wilson and they repayed her by first taking out of the starting lineup and then removing her from the lineup altogether.
Kate got more minutes early in the season partly because Gray was injured. Then the Aces signed a couple of players with more experience than Kate. Then she got injured. Without the Olympics break, she would probably be getting zero minutes now.
I honestly thought Kate would likely not make it to the Aces’ final roster. She is doubtless a great teammate, but she is not the answer to any particular problem the Fever have. If she plays one more season in the WNBA, then heads back to Iowa as an assistant coach, she will be on track in her career.
I would rather have Celeste Taylor back tbh.
If the aces release Kate next summer; then maybe the fever can consider it. But they definitely shouldn’t give up assets (draft picks or players) for Kate.

While Smith may be a better athlete, she’s not a better BB player than Martin and the bonus is that the two Ks work together superbly which goes a long way toward success on the court.

The reality is that Kate’s main role with the Aces was to fill in minutes so that their top players can get a breather. Now that the Aces are not in their best form they cannot afford to take out many other players as teams are pouncing on them. I see a very mentally and physically tired Aces that will be struggling like hell to get in the finals in playoffs. Kate has served as a very likable person with a high EQ that motivates players and that added to their team dynamics. Her work ethic was used in exemplary ways to the team to keep them also hustling up and down the court. Not sure if Kate feels fulfilled on a team with minimal minutes but at her caliber and size, unless the Aces are blowing away another team, she will be used sparingly. Becky Hamon by now is in chambers trying to figure out loose ends and it may come down to this- age and wear and tear on the body has taken a toll.
With minimal playing time and not much stats to back it up it may be hard for Kate to leave for another team even if she wanted to. Stuck there…and hopefully not with the carpet pulled under her like the Aces do in player exits and entrances. I do think that Becky likes Kate a lot and respects well her Lisa Bluer to hopefully not do that but it is a business. The pressure to win came with their 100k bonus and now they must be looking future to build on what they have. Sweet Kate Martin would be a joy and true team player anywhere. It is apparent she loves her teammates and I wish her the very best. Seems like a true friend indeed that others feel comfortable around and sense her genuineness and sincerety.
As long as the Aces players keep getting their $100,000 bonuses, it’s going to be hard for Kate to get enough playing time to show what she can do. They’ll keep on getting their pick of veterans to fill out their roster.
The Fever need a back up point guard who can soot the 3 as a 2. Simms might have been a great fit. I don’t see Martin going to the Fever. She has her own life and a partner. As much as I like the idea of Kate coming off the Fever bench in place of Wheeler, I doubt it will happen. But, it’s a darn good thought
The Fever should get Martin, she's a solid player who can jive with CC's style. She also fits in gaps in their lineup. You could give up the 1st round pick for her because the Fever aren't getting a great pick this year. Find a Draymond type of player through free agency who can add some toughness to the forward/center slot. AB is great, but basically a finesse player. Other than that, definitely resign Mitchell. The Fever have some bigger contracts that aren't going to attract interest, those players will have to be cut. The Fever will need to spend money to be a title contender, I'm not optimistic with the history of management.
