CIRCUS Promotion on the Sunset Strip

  • Close look at a "day in the life" of one of the most popular bands to walk the Sunset strip. The band would get mobbed at times by fans. Unable to walk alone they often walked with security lurking in the shadows. It was quite the phenomenon at the time. No local band had garnered that much attention by the public. They often stopped traffic.
The band handed out balloons so as to avoid further action by the city who had issued a $17,500 fine to the band for being in association with an unknown party who had posted on every lamp post in the city of West Hollywood with 6 flyers spelling out the bands name. No matter what freeway exit you took into Hollywood you couldn't miss it, and then going the other way when leaving Hollywood too. With each flyer the band handed out they ran the risk of being arrested. Seeing the band flyer is rare! They had people scouring the streets for flyers on the ground. The fans had no idea that the only way the band could promote was without flyers. It worked, subsequently they broke the attendance record at the Roxy Theatre and broke Van Halen's record at Gazzarri's. Bill Gazzarri awarded the band his last and final "star on the wall of fame" of the venue before passing away in 1991.

The 80s were killed by the people themselves. Everyone became very vulnerable, tender. Everything must be protected and preserved. Immediately sue everyone, demand money and put them in jail.
People in all countries killed music, films, atmosphere. After all, you can’t have fun, you can’t have sex, communicate, listen to music. It is only necessary to work, give birth to children and come up with new norms of morality.
The 80s was sex, drugs and rock and roll, but it was - immoral. Now it's much better when disguised transvestites throw dollars to children spinning on a pole. There is nothing immoral in gay parades (apparently only Russia and China, as well as Arab countries are against it), people in latex, feathers or BDSM suits on the street. This is better than rock and roll and young people who have fun, communicate in real life, and not just poke at the buttons of smartphones.
The USA is a country of shows, music, films. But all this was killed by their "grievances" and prohibitions. Now the script is not important in the film, it is important that there are 3 blacks, 1 Asian, 2 Latinos, always a strong woman and a weak, ugly white man. Who wants to watch this shit? 80-90 - the era of pumped-up male heroes, and amazing women. Now men are rags no bigger than matches, and women are hairy males saving the world.
Drinking alcohol and smoking in the film is not allowed, children are watching. For some reason, discussing who fucks with whom, the eternal invented problems of self-determination, constant conflicts with everyone because of puberty - what children need. Now no one smokes or drinks in films, but everyone is fucking and discussing with everyone they meet.
They wanted morality - they got it, they wanted the righteous - they got it, they wanted laws, courts and rights - they got it. So why are you crying that your freedom was taken from you? Freedom is the price of standing up for your rights. Shielded children from music and everything else? - No, children also fuck, use drugs and commit crimes. There is simply no freedom of choice now. Follow the rules for every step
You don’t walk up to a girl on the street and offer to drink just like that without the thought that she might report harassment just to get money from you. And, in the 80s, you can communicate and not think about it.
Keep going and soon you will be crying about the 90s, 2000s, and maybe 2020s where there was so much freedom and joy.

Literally the only thing my comment addressed was their work ethic and my admiration for them because of it. No mention of their music, no contemplation of why they didn't make it. Not even so much as an allusion to their talent, or lack thereof. Literally, nothing. Nowhere are the words "music", "vocals", "musicality", or "why". Also, noticeably absent are any question marks (?). Despite all that, here you are, FIVE YEARS LATER, responding to points that I didn't make, about subjects I didn't broach and answering questions that I didn't ask... Stale.

It didn't just die OVERNIGHT like some people think . Same with the 80-82 still had some 70's vibe still left in them . Obviously '91 isn't the 80's anymore but the vibe , fashion & music was still there as if it still was the 80's .

This amateur shoot makes you travel through time and get into a real night in sunset strip. When I was a boy back to 1993, 1994 I used to listen to hard rock a lot and I was fascinated about all those party rock colorful degenerating scene. boy stuff. Unfortunately, grunge has taken over the world by that time. Nowadays I´m a 35 years old guy and I´m musically very eclectic, but from time to time I catch myself listening to hard rock from L.A. Although I did not like this band AT ALL, they were actually very popular on the strip. Terrible in my opinion, but popular. don’t know why there would be a wiki page on a band that was local Hollywood only. These memories are basically for the thousands of people who were on the strip. It wasn’t a worldwide thing, it was one street that us boys in make up ruled for a while. It was a lot of fun and I don’t understand why you’re being a dick about it. If you don’t like it, then watch something else.

The band would get mobbed at times by fans. Unable to walk alone they often walked with security lurking in the shadows. It was quite the phenomenon at the time. Although...this actually *is* an interesting clip...if only for how it showed the once amazing Strip, which once spawned *true* 60s/70s legends ,had disintegrated so pathetically.... These sillies would get no further then 10 miles outside of LA... I don't believe it was Seattle that killed the hair metal thing , they just put the final nail in the coffin , Guns N Roses and Metallica had more impact on that scene dying then Seattle did , and the ridiculous amount of second and third tier bands that flooded the strip .
And you have Jane's Addiction selling out clubs in LA , the scene had just gotten stale and too many bands sounded the same .
Nirvana just hit at the perfect time for kids looking for something new.
But the dye was cast years before.

I was on the equivalent Hair Metal scene at this time in England. The clubs were full of the sounds of the main players etc, Crue, GNR, Faster Pussycat, RATT, LA Guns, Poison, the list goes on. Saw all the ones live who made it across the pond. We had a few of our own, Tigertailz, The Quireboys, Dogs Damour. To find this footage was awesome, as mentioned, you don’t really get to see how it was, just clips and stories. This band has so many cool videos from that time, they were inadvertently capturing an important time and scene in music. I made it to LA eventually 2011 to pay homage to the places but wish I could have been there 89/90.

As the Singer of a band that played at the Roxy 12 days after this video was shot (October 11, 1990) this bring back some serious memories. We were known as the biggest, and youngest band to headline the Strip. We too were labeled the Next Big Thing. 15 years later a book was written about our experience trying to make it during those days. Can you name our band?

I was done with makeup 1990? "White lace"84 87 shredded these guys. . The scene here is a year after Pretty boy floyd who was much bigger perfecting the glam image , but the album failed. 1989 grunge taking over.. pretty boy Floyd lacked song writing..the album looks Detroit Rock city from KISS. The album was on a billboard above Roxy on sunset strip. I heard Pretty boy Floyd was a drug deal gone bad.
