#5 A band that had two major hits a ballad and a rocker that helped their first two albums go platinum plus with a singer who tragically passed away at just 47 years of age. Warrant came on to the scene in with a lot to prove having been turned down by many labels. Their first release is our hidden gem ”Down Boys” was the first single of of their 1989 debut Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich in ’89.
#4 The 4th single from the epic 1989 album Dr. Feelgood, One of those famous parentheses songs.. Motley Crue’s Don’t Go Away Mad (just go away) Bassist Nikki Sixx, and lead guitarist Mick Mars co-authored this ’tongue in cheek’ tune about dealing with a breakup by focusing on the good times of a relationship. If you subscribe to the karmic philosophy that ‘all things must pass,’ why not dwell on the good times you experienced together, instead of being consumed by hurt and anger when the inevitable happens? It’s much healthier way to sever the ties, and I’m sure for Motley Crue, a guilt-free way to play the field.. if you can get your ex to buy into it…..
#3 A band that would figure into the great mainstream metal take over of 1989 where it seemed like every week on the charts there were at least 2 or 3 metal song in the Billboard top 10. Great White is best know for their cover of Once Bitten Twice but my hidden gem choice here is “Rock Me,” which was the breakout track for Great White in 1987
at #2 a band that Great White Guitarist Mark Kendall was influenced by Dokken with ”In My Dreams” by Many including Mark Kendall claimed that Dokken lead guitarist, George Lynch, started two-hand tapping before Eddie Van Halen did, although Lynch, himself, denies it. There is no disputing, however, that George Lynch is a revered guitarist, especially during the Glam Metal Era.
and at #1 a band that’s first two album were as good as any band on the scene and one of my favorite songs of the year 1989.
“Coming Home” was released as the 3rd single from Cinderella’s 2nd studio LP Long Cold Winter from 1988, following their triple platinum debut Night Songs. Although the band was making a calculated move to evolve their sound, its the combination of the minimalist, bluesy beginning of the track, and the transition into Keifer’s distinctive growling for the chorus that gives makes “Coming Home” such a special song. I want to talk about that for a second.
What is the greatest metal album of the 80s?
some will say gun's and Rose's but I disagree there were sooo many I can't decide
Appetite For Destruction.
Cocked and Loaded - LA Guns
Savatage - Hall Of The Mountain King
Number of the Beast - Maiden
“Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Warrant and “Night Songs”- Cinderella, were the most rockin songs by those 2 bands. Imo.
Two great songs, even if I don't care for Warrant.
Agree, Night Songs hard hitting open track
Uncle Toms Cabin...absolute classic. Glad someone mentioned that. Rippin tune, HEAVY RIFF , dangerous solos, smart lyrics tell a great story...intense vocals. Top 5 from that era. Ratt was amazing, & consistent. Every album was a powerhouse!
Somebody save me is the best Cinderella song
@@scottboutin4781 Apparently Jani Lane wanted “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” to be the name and lead single for what became “Cherry Pie”? A shame.
Tom Keifer is one of the most talented artists in rock music. It’s a shame he and his band don’t get more credit than they do.
Totally agree about Tom Keifer.
But I've got to say : Bad seamstress blues, from long cold winter album.
Has got to be 1 of the best intros to an album since
Acdc, hells bells on back in black.
Yes! My favorite Cinderella song!
Me and high school friends won a lip sync contest with that in 89’
100%
Always thought that about Bad Seamstress Blues as well.
George Lynch hated playing "In my dreams"
When Don Dokken said he'll play it on the album instead, George changed his mind.
Don is actually a good guitar player. I remember seeing Dokken live and Don was playing rhythm guitar to "In My Dream". The solo kicks ass.
I can't remember the name of the nation wide radio show, but Don Dokken was being interviewed. A caller asked him if the rumors of him starting another band were true. His reply, "What am I going to call it, Don?"
It made me laugh so hard, I still remember that 30+ yrs later.
@@rafacastorena145 yes he is. Better than I thought he would be.
Thanks for bringing me back to the days when metal ruled the world. So many great memories from my childhood. The late 80's were the best!
This is the Greatest show.He knows his stuff.very informative.
Saw Cinderella in 2002 in Greenville, SC. Tom Kiefer singing “Coming Home” was incredible live❤.
Great White's "House of Broken Love" is one of the best Blues-Rock songs ever!
Anything from the Black N Blue album "Without Love", which is my vote for biggest should have been huge album of the 80s.
The WHOLE album is listenable and really good.
Man these are the bands that were very visible and all commercial breakthroughs! Hidden gems in my book would be Faster Pussycat, JetBoy, LA Guns or Junkyard! And those are questionable as they all had hit songs that received heavy rotation in MTV! Seeing stories about those bands songs wouldve been way cooler! Either way I am a huge fan of the channel and you have been an inspiration for me and my own little channel in the Vinyl Community of RUclips! #CosmicVinyl Thanks for all the hard work! Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️
Great White House of broken love, there BEST song and a HUGE gem
Casey Kasem was still counting down the hits in 1989 on his new show, Casey's Top 40, so maybe he told the story about Cinderella.
I hate "Once Bitten' Twice Shy", "Rock Me" is one of GW best songs.
I could go the rest of my life without hearing once bitten, twice shy. I never liked the song, I never understood why it became a hit.
It's absolutely their best song.
Fred Couric(sp?) the drummer for Cinderella has a fantastic rock-n-roll story as well
Always thought Lillian Axe had some great songs and kind of a unique sound.. True Believer and Show a little love to name a couple
I'd have chosen Cinderella Heartbreak Station song myself; only ballad from that genre and period that doesn't sound over produced and dated (apart from Love Song by Tesla).
Suprised no mention of Wasp or Hurricane
Hidden Gem worthy of a fly by: Kix "Don't Close Your Eyes" off Blow My Fuse • 1988
"Don't Close Your Eyes" is a very haunting song. Great classic!
That was a good album!.
Wore out two cassettes.
Oh Kix has a mother load of bad ass songs. I pretty much learned to play every song on blow my fuse. the three albums that came before that one were good too. the foloow up with rock roll overdose and Hee bee jee bee crush was bad ass as well.
The whole album is a MASTERPIECE!! I recently got the 30th anniversary of the the remixed and remastered CD called Blow My Fuse Reloaded. It sounds better than ever.
Love Kix.
I think Tesla doesn't get enough credit..
A rock radio staple from late '86-'93
agreed, frank was an amazing guitarist
Tesla is a great band not a bad song
I totally agree Tesla is one of the best bands ever!
There accustic album was great especially signs and lodi
Cinderella - Long Cold Winter and Heartback Station are two amazing albums, blues/country/metal with dobro, slide guitar, 12 string etc They were totally distinct from other metal bands of the era and the music on those albums to me stands the test of time. Tom Kiefer had six vocal chord surgeries and was told he would never sing again but managed overcome adversity and put out new music. He's also a very underated guitar player.
True!
When they hit the air I was in High School, I called it Blues Metal because of the distinctive sound
Great albums and songs on those albums. They'll always be my favorite 80's glam band, even when they weren't really glam but more blues in those 2 albums. Good stuff 💯
He is still great live. Saw him twice a few years ago and still sounds great.
You are 100% correct. Long Cold Winter is a masterpiece and one of the most underrated albums ever recorded. I love all the different instruments, people don't usually associate with rock and roll, that they used. Cinderella was so much better than bands that got all the air time on MTV.
When I bought my first guitar I remember asking the sales guy at the shop "How can I sound like George Lynch?", not knowing anything about how to achieve guitar tone. Last year, my son, who got his second guitar from the exact same shop btw, told me (without me knowing what he really liked in guitar sounds) "I want my guitar to sound like that song 'In My Dreams'". I quietly shed a tear lol.
You raised him right! Good job sir
The “hair” metal genre was so underrated when it came to ability to play , especially the guitar slingers . Warren Dimartini of Ratt , John Sykes playing on Whitesnake , Young Zak , Jake E Lee with Ozzy , Slash and Izzy , Ritchie Sambora ... I got my first guitar in 89 .
If you want the Lynch sound it's not so much the guitar, but the very, very expensive soldano amp.
Parenting win.
@@marksoi469 Hair? Derogatory
LOVE Dokken's "In My Dreams." Criminally underrated song with cool harmonies. "Alone Again" is also a winner.
Alone again is, by far, Dokken's greatest tune!
Agreed. "Alone Again" is a damn good song.
I like Dream warriors!
@@ScottMacdonaldfishing great one too, no doubt about it!
Just remembered another great Dokken song: "Breaking the Chains"! Always sing along to that one! Easily relatable song!
Great White "House of Broken Love " is the hidden gem of the band. The long intro and Mark Kendalls playing is underappreciated
Agreed, that and lady red light are my favs from Great White
Definitely my favorite by GW. Excellent song. “Once more…”
Hell yes
Oh, without a doubt.
I play it pretty often on the jukebox at my favorite pub and someone will always ask "who is that?".
HoBL is My favorite GW song...
However with GW there are so very many.... Sail Away comes to mind right away.
And yet Rock Me is still played a lot on 80s hard radio and streaming. Not compared to OBTS but compared to everything else GW. So anawesome song but not quite "hidden" if you ask me.
Great White: ‘Lady Red Light’ absolute hidden gem!
that's right
Absolutely. That song was soooo Sunset Blvd.
I have to say "Rock Me" was probably my most all-time memorable track. I dug the groove.
Edit:
I'm sorry, I stopped the video to comment on the Motley Crew song. I did see this comment and added what I thought about Great White. Only after restarting the video did I realize that Rock Me was the next song, lol. Oh well, still stands.
My favorite is All over now, the riff does something for me
@Pro Plat I wouldn't go as far as "The most", but I will say that they are definitely underrated.
I think anybody who listened to glam metal and metal watched headbangers ball religiously in the 80s
The best show on MTV
I couldn't wait for 11 pm to roll around I think on Friday nights if I'm not mistaken. I remember having to sneak to the living room to watch it on a subdued level as to not wake my parents! They hated the fact I listened to metal but reconsidered when they heard me play my drums later in life!!
🤚
@@ericlopez4974 One advantage of living on the west coast is we didn't have to wait that late, 8:00 pm here
In Canada, we watched Much Music's Power hour.then it became power 30. Often different dj s hosting it, it was our weekly metal fix. After it was over, then Rap City was on.
Tom Keifer is living in Nashville and I imagine right now is the best time to get an interview. I am sure he is missing the road and looking for things to do. You should definitely track him down, it would be a great interview.
Oh hell yeah, I think he was highly underrated not only as a singer song writer, but as a guitarist to👍
Eddie Trunk did an interview with him a couple of years ago, when he put out his new solo album: ruclips.net/video/ZU0XRWoIJRg/видео.html
I REALLY like Cinderella. Also Slaughter, even though they had their hits in the early, early 90s 🤘🏼
I was going to put Slaughter's "Desperately" in as an underrated tune from the genre but..it be from the 90's :-)
Cinderella very underrated. Tom could really belt out the blues!
Tom Keifer a true rock idol! he had the voice and talent to be much bigger for sure!!!!
Up all niiiight....!!!
Took my wife to her first arena rock show in the eighties Winnipeg Canada 🍁 🇨🇦 cinderella, slaughter. It was to loud for her, no ear plugs, divorced but still good friends 😂
I think LA Guns 'The Ballad of Jayne' falls into this category. Beautiful song.
That is a great song for sure.
Over The Edge is also a good song. LA Guns got better with every album.
@@RFXLR Great shout out. "Over the Edge" was also on the sound track for "Pointbreak" with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. It is a great song. LA Guns were a great band and never got the credit they deserved. "Rip and Tear" was also a great track.
La guns has a lot of great songs on all of their albums
I loved LA guns
Motley crue? Dude, I thought hidden gems would be like tokyo by dirty looks, ready to strike by king kobra, stevie by britny fox, screaming in the night by krokus, hot Cherie by hardline now those are fantastic songs by fantastic bands that surely deserve way more credit for their musical talents
Good list
Those songs being great and underrated doesn't take away from the greatness of this MC song. One of their best.
I get it I liked those bands too but ya missed the meaning of the title ..it's forgotten gems.....the songs you're talking about were never classics in the first place to be forgotten they were songs that were never that big I'm the beginning ..to even know the bands you mentioned you'd have to be a rocker that was jamming at the time or grew up in the late seventies early eighties like me ...I love Britney fox dream on the nazereth remake ..girl school...I forgot about that band until you mentioned it ..there's so many ..dangerous toys ,danger danger Lillian axe ..who turned into...a really heavy metal band very heavy look em up now...they're like dream theater now
But ya we should petition the professor of Rock to do a show on those.bands like you mentioned
Rock Me is a great slow burn with a satisfying payoff! House of Broken Love is another one of my favs!
Desert Moon is more of a hidden gem Rock Me was a hit for them not really sure thats a “hidden” gem
Shot in the Dark is an awesome Great White album no one really talks about!
Great White never hit as big as they should have. So many good songs and albums. Once Bitten, ...Twice Shy, Hooked and Psycho City was an amazing run of four great albums.
Let it Rock is a great album.
@@anonimus7262 I think they went down after that fire in Rhode Island.
Maybe I spent too much time listening to music back in the day but it feels like none of these 5 were forgotten...or even obscured. They were all instantly familiar.
Yeah I think the video title could be different...maybe underrated, or something because I knew and listened to all of these. But that's okay bc it reminds me of them and then I go play the whole tune and make sure they are on my playlists.
see my above post. this list is awful. ALL HUGE songs that everyone knows immediately, and no one forgot for a second. and definitely none of the =m are "hidden gems" IN MY DREAMS??!! are you kidding me??? Even though i dont believe its dokkens best song, its 100 percent their biggest hit and the song they are most known for. this is either the worst list ever made or worst title ever made. cant wait to see his classic rock hidden gems list. feel like making love , more than a feeling, and stairway to heaven?
I think in terms of mainstream, it is fair for POR to say these are forgotten. Not everyone has continued to listen to these as you or I have. Certainly not as many as listen as did back then. Maybe could have been phrased a bit differently as my first thoughts with that title are to bands like Kingdom Come, House of Lords, Shark Island, Tora Tora, Bonham, … But I realize those are truly obscure to most.
These are the songs classic radio stations don't play. You & I haven't forgot them.
Great White and Cinderella were a fantastic staple for blues rock. Enjoyed them as a teen. As an adult, I've realized how much i love blues music from previous decades and with that, the realization of why I enjoyed those groups so much. For me, they've stood out to be the most pleasurable to listen to even now, especially Cinderella as so many of their lyrics had relatable material that is still relevant today. Shelter Me is a wonderful song.
Although Tesla wasn't really a glam band, their lack of classic rock radio airplay these days is almost criminal.
"Song and Emotion" is a killer tune to this day.
Again, its the silly ass videos.. I mean, i love that band and their music holds up well but its hard to take them seriously when you see the singer dancing around like a spastic clown.
Love Song is my favorite...love song.
Still love Tesla :)
Dude the tragedy that Tesla gets lumped in with “hair bands” merely because they came out in the 80’s is criminal. They get so overlooked because of it.
Great White's "The Angel Song" is so forgotten. What a ballad.
We have the story of that. It will be featured. Thanks for commenting!
YES! I was going to mention that song. I taught myself to play that on the keyboard. It should've been a much bigger hit.
@@ProfessorofRock Wow, I can't wait for that one!!!
I like House of Broken Love, Old Rose Motel and Save Your Love.
@@ProfessorofRock Can't wait! That one has stuck with me all these years.
Cinderella is so underrated!!! They are one of the best live bands I’ve seen and their music definitely stands the test of time. Also, one of my favorite “hidden 80s” gem is Junkyard’s “Simple Man”. The guitar work is great, as is the lyric and arrangement.
Please do something on another 80s band I thought was underrated....WASP. Thank you 😁
Tom Keifer's still at it to this day. With his current band, he's released a bunch of albums and is constantly making music.
yea both albums are good but "RISE" is really good i love that album.. every song is great few of them if done 30 years ago would have been hits.... shame what music has turned into. was going top see him in concert with ratt slaughter and skid row then the pandemic closed it all down. sorta pissed was going to be a great show, also had def and crue tickets as well, 9th row left of center not cheap was so hyped..... until postponed.
I caught him at a club called Trees in Dallas during his "The Way Life Goes" tour. He was singing great and he had a slamming band. I will say this was probably the loudest show I've seen and I didn't bring ear plugs, so there were several times I had to walk out of the club to stop the pain in my ears. I wish I had come prepared because he was on fire for sure. I think he finished with "A Little Help From My Friends" (which was not played at such a high level) and I was back in the building comfortably to enjoy that. His voice was so strong, you'd have never known he had those vocal cord operations mentioned in the video. I've not heard "Rise", but I think I better check it out!

the whole album is good its on youtube.
check it out its one of my fav albums. more i listened more i liked it. weirdly the song"rise" is not the best.
google tom keifer rise full album enjoy you will love it.
My wife and I went to Cinderella on August 2nd. I still call them that. My favorite band from late 80's. They rocked hard. It was an outdoor venue and I couldn't believe how loud it was. It was incredible.
None of these were “hidden gems” for me, but still enjoyed the video.
Same Ol Situation off Dr. Feelgood is also a hidden gem. I still can’t get over how huge that song sounds.
One of Motley's best!

Great song but I don’t know if I’d consider it hidden
@@tbone8223 def not even my friends who arnt into rock and metal listen to that song
I agree
Honorable mention - L.A. Guns - “Ballad Of Jayne”
La guns and faster pussycat ! Ballad of Jayne amazing song. !
Cinderella has a truckload full of hidden gems. Tom's voice is legendary and just made it more bluesy. Still love the band today
Agreed. Even when they went full Nashville with Heartbreak Station, they continued to pound out masterpieces.
One of the most awesome bands out there. Very underrated.
Save Me
I still love that line ' and the s**t you ate for breakfast, it will only give you cancer"
Cinderella is the b est thing to come out of Philly
Cinderella and Tesla, two very underrated bands.
Cinderella was the gold standard for glam metal....gritty, bluesy, full of blues harp and slide guitar. My favorite song of theirs is Gypsy Road...a hard driving, exciting song which I never tire of.
Tom was just a gem! He really was!
No, no they were not. Do you know how you know? The Mega-tour was Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Poison. Not Cinderella. But I do really like them.
I agree, Bad Seamstress Blues
@@stevedallas6122 They were. End of discussion
@@stevedallas6122 That’s mainly because Cinderella is no longer a functioning band. Not even a tribute band. Tom Kiefer is working on his own right now
Though earlier in the 80s than these gems, my vote is for "Street of Dreams" by Rainbow... Its video briefly got some airplay... As soon as I hear it, the song stays in my head all day, but in a good way...
Great song!
Love that song, street of dreams, twilight zone by golden erring, lunatic fringe by red rider. All those great songs.
Yep, still turn that song up when it comes on the satellite radio in car.
Joe Lynn Turner is my favorite singer
That's my #1 song from Bent Out of Shape.
In an interview with Randy Rhoads brother Kelle, he was asked whom he thought Randy would have said was the best L.A. guitarist in the late 70's. His answer was George Lynch.
And rightfully so. Man, what a guitarist.
George is my Girlfriends uncle . He is a very cool down-to earth guy !
@@leekenney9214 whoa... that’s awesome, dude. Have you talked to Richie Falkner as well? In my mind he’s the only worthy “replacement” for KK Downing.
Motley Crue "You're All I Need" is a fav of mine but severely underrated/forgotten. It hasn't been performed live, the music video was deemed "too violent", AND "Girls Girls Girls" over took it. So I see why it's been left. It's honestly some of Vince's best work, it's rugged but oddly angelic. Hope someone sees this comment!
A masterpiece. A beautiful, mornful song with a great back story.
Awesome song one of my favorites from the CRue ! Nona would of made a good full length song also ! Dancing on glass by the crue another underrated song.

Tom Keifer is a legend!!!! cant even imagine how big he could be if he had a proper producer like Bob Rock or Desmond Child behind him. for those who dont know the pain of blues rock music listen to the song "Long Cold Winter"
Great White's "Lady red light" and "Desert moon" amazing uplifting rock songs!!!!!
Dokken "You just got lucky" what a song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "It's not Love" another groundbreaking anthem
The album version of Rock Me is a killer, slow burn that builds to a fantastic crescendo. Today's popular music is sorely lacking this influence.
Face the Day off of their Shot In The Dark album is very similiar, and also an outstanding track.
Both great songs!!
Christopher Crowder
You nailed it. I was going thru my CD library looking for what I had not enjoyed in awhile. I hit on Great White, and went, yeah.... Face the Day! What an amazing song. About being hung over. While I've only been hung over once in the last 16 years, I've had my share. It is soooo underrated. Great call.
Great White's version of Face The Day is an almost note for note cover of the song by The Angels from Australia.
@@Tumbleweed_Tx thank you for the info so listened to the them yes very much so, but gw upped production a little and better singer (imho) but I like the original and will need to go check out their other stuff
First time I heard Face the Day was live when they opened for Whitesnake in early 88. Blew me away.
There's countless hidden gems, especially in hair metal. These are some great ones. Down Boys is Warrant at their best. Rock Me is one of my favorite Great White songs and they have waaay better stuff like this one than their cover of Ian Hunter's tune. Dokken also has Breaking the Chains, Don't Close Your Eyes (not the Kix hit), Tooth and Nail, Lightning Strikes Again, Kiss Of Death, and so many classics. Cinderella is also underrated just like the other three bands. Night Songs is an excellent debut album. I also love Ratt, Skid Row, Stryper, and so much more.
LOVE "Rock Me" but DEAR GOD IF I NEVER have to hear "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" EVER AGAIN I'll be just fine. 😡😂
Thanks PoF for highlighting Tom Keifer and Cinderella's " Coming Home". It is one of my all time ballads which I constantly find myself noodling on guitar when I try to get into mood. Keifer's recent solo work reaffirms his stature as one of the best singer/songwriters in the genre. 🙏🎼
That style of music was, unfortunately, eclipsed by its silly image. People overlooked just how talented a lot of those musicians were/are. And I'm glad you didn't refer to it as "hair" metal.
Agreed. Those ridiculous videos definitely stop a lot off great music from being taken seriously.
@@tolkienjr9609 the vids were a sign of the times but it's today's radio programming that is really at fault. You can only hope teenagers are discovering it via their elders or videos like this.
every era has a silly image. disco, glam, alternative, etc. what made the 80s glam thing so huge was that they were the ones who first got mtv. alternative had it too, but only after 80s glam had become such a refined formula, that everyone was kind of bored with it. in comes nirvana pearl jam etc with all glam stripped off and just hanging out in flannels and jeans. but even that genre wound up being an image that everyone started doing and also became formulaic. its the recrd companies and media that push those things until theyve rung out every dollar they can out of every band they can churn out that looks just like the last 6 or 7 that worked. i find cool music on youtube now. fuck radio and mtv. well mtv has already been fucked for decades. lol
Steel Panther is having a lot of self-aware fun with this - but like you said, the schtick sometimes overshadows what great musicians they truly are. Just like back in the day.
@@jdraven0890 Agreed!
Our local Classic Rock Station has changed its format to include the 80's and now 90's...but outside of the typical Motley Crüe, Bongiovi and Cinderella songs, everything else is ignored.
Hey Adam! I thought for SURE that one of the songs was going to be “Fly High Michelle” by Enuff z Nuff. That song is an absolutely killer and a masterpiece IMO. Maybe you can include is hidden gems part 2. Thank you for all that you do!
Dude, I can't stand "New Thing" but "Fly High Michelle" is so damn good, I will forever love that song.
Love that song!
Great song, one of my favorites! Good band live too
Actually, their first 2 albums are pretty damn good. And I wanted to not like them because their first singles releases seemed so "poppy". But there's some damn good lyrics on there, especially on the second album.

Cinderella's Night Songs was one of the greatest albums of the 80's
Jani Lane was one of the best songwriters of the era!
This is absolutely true. It's so sad that he doesn't get his due.
@@speeb3766 Warrant were so underrated. Saw them open for Poison in 1990. Clips from the concert were used for Poison's song "Ride the Wind".
Totally agree. They were a good band and Jani made them great
100% he knew how to do it. Its just in the mid 90s idiots dissed all rock bands from the 80s and labelled it hair metal this sickens me. Jani was a genius.
he was amazing
I enjoy glam metal about a hundred times more now than in its heyday. In part, because I can listen without prejudice--back in the day, I read (and believed) far too many Rolling Stone-type dismissals of Motley Crue, Cinderella, etc. (For the record, the first Cinderella album is terrific.)
I think the genre gets a bad rap, because it was so popular. And after the initial popularity, lots of mediocre bands got signed, and a ton of forgettable garbage came out. But there were some outstanding bands making some excellent music.
Rolling Stone has always had an air of superiority to their reviews that most often looks foolish in retrospect. Case in point, Jann Wenner's R&RHOF snubs.
I have yet to find anything that rolling stone really ever got right. Just elitist aholes that I don't think really like music.
I like it more now than back in the day as well. I think the songs suffer from the 80’s production.
@@TamingTheSprue At least they still had dynamics in the 80s. Today most everything is compressed and brickwalled for maximum loudness.
Cinderella is definitely unfairly pigeon holed in the hair metal genre and some may dismiss them out of hand. But don't kid yourself nay sayers. You know and I know when Gypsy Road comes on the radio....you let it play.
Gypsy Road is part of my workout mix. That song gets me pumped!
Hidden gems? These songs were all pretty popular.
My favorite forgotten glam rocker by far is Kix's Cold Blood.
Well professor from Warrant "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was always a song I felt was very underappreciated. Also Steelheart "I'll never let u go(angel eyes) is very underappreciated.
Man I love that Steelheart song. It was mine and then boyfriends "song" my senior year. LOL. Memories! And UTC is a great song. Odd for songs to have a story at that time so probably why...kind of like Janie's Got a Gun.
I Remember You... Skid Row... Epic angelic power.
Cinderella was great, glam but bluesy which doesn't sound like something that I'd like or would even work. Their lyrics were a cut above. The other recommendations are great too, but you nailed the #1.
Dr Feelgood is Motley's Sgt Pepper
DRFSR by Warrant is a fantastic album. Every song on that record is just awesome!!
I always loved Cherry Pie... 💃🍰🍼 Real Glam Metal.
Great list...loved every one of those...especially Coming Home...Long Cold Winter was my #1 record for awhile there...loved every track and Coming Home was my favorite...i was like 15 and had just moved like 40 miles away...new school new freinds but i missed my old school and old freinds...i always wanted to go back "home" but im glad i stuck it out ...met my new best friends and formed my first band in that new place to which we still get together and jam to this day...pushin 50 years old...lol...also remember the day i had tickets to Kix/Bullet Boys/ and Cinderella headlining the Palace of Auburn Hills...was in high school counting down the minures to the bell rang...lol...went with my girl from my old hometown and her older brother who drove us...that night i was "Coming Home"
Saw them with Bullet Boys and Winger at the Palace in spring of 89. Great show.
I’m a fan of 80s rock. Have to agree with Eddie Trunk calling it “hair bands” or n e thing to do with hair is an insult to the music. It’s classic rock to me. Luv: Dio, TNT, Triumph,, Tesla, Warrant, Y & T.....
Eddie trunk one said the scorpions should be considered a “hairless band.” LOL
Love Y&T's "Keep on Running" (think that's the title?)
Love Y&T. Dave Meniketti is a great on the guitar and vocals.
@@collo5351 and he is still going.. unfortunately he is the last remaining original member alive. I saw Y&T open up for Dio at the Mid-Hudson Civic center in Poughkeepsie. They were phenomenal.
I ran into Ronnie before the show. He was really down to earth and appreciated his fans.
In 1988, my college roommate and I bought tickets to see AC/DC in Roanoke, VA. The opener was Cinderella. My roomie was a HUGE fan, and I wasn't into them at all. The night of the show, Cinderella tore that arena apart. To this day, they're one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Pure energy. I became an instant fan, and was fortunate enough to see them several more times in the years that followed.
That's back when Roanoke had his concerts. They hardly have anything now 😥
How could you leave Queensryche off that list? I Don't Believe in Love, Jet City Woman or Empire?
Operation Mindcrime!
Go earlier. If you want "hidden gem", go with "Take Hold of the Flame" or "London"
The titular track in Long Cold Winter took power blues to a level that isn't real. Raw, emotional musical delivery like that was rare then and even rarer today.
I remember my then new wife (now married nearly 35 years) and myself catching the Great Whitesnake Tour in 87. Both the Whitesnake and Great White albums were beast.
Ass-kicking tour!!!! The "floor show" of babes was 2nd to none!! 2 killer bands at their peaks.
Notice that George Lynch took some hairstyling cues from Limahl in their earlier days....🤣
😂🤣🤣
Don't like the term "glam metal" or "hair bands". Think it's a diss to those bands. I call them hard rock bands. There were some good ones and bad ones like in any genre. These bands need to get their due. Their songs are lot better than the stuff that's out now. 🤘
Glam metal doesn’t show disrespect. Glam goes back to the New York Dolls and T. rex.
@@ProfessorofRock I see T. Rex and NY Dolls as glam and earned that. Too me, these bands were more than "glam". These guys have great musicianship & song writing abilities than the stuff that's out today. Motley Crue, Dokken, Scorpions, KISS, and Judas Priest are my biggest influences. FYI...You're show rocks! 🤘
@@rafacastorena145 Thank you for watching. I just meant that I would NEVER disrespect these bands. I love them.
@@ProfessorofRock I hope you get to interview Tom Keifer. His 2 solo albums are great. 🤘
@@ProfessorofRock Marc Bolan is God! 😁🥰🤩
I love Cinderella. They were one favorite unsung favorites of the glam rock era. I remember seeing them for the 1st time when they opened up for Bon Jovi. That was my introduction to them. I’m a huge admirer of Tom Keifer.
I have always thought the Cinderella was one of the most underrated bands of the '80's. Long Cold Winter is in my top 10 rock albums of all time.
You rock Adam
No You Rock!
George Lynch made the 80's guitar rock!
“Rock Me” is not a hidden gem for me, I listen to it regularly and it’s always the 7min version lol I actually don’t enjoy “Once Bitten Twice Shy” all that much
"Rock Me" is not a hidden gem, if you're a fan of the band! If you're going to name a hidden gem from Great White, MY choice would be "Substitute" a great cover, originally done by The Who
none of these songs were hidden at all. i listen to them regularly as well..
I feel exactly the same
@@ronmclaughlin886 Yes! That version of "Substitute" is killer...
see my above post for some real hidden gems and somewhat forgotten songs. no songs on this list were hidden gems or forgotten in the slightest .
Forgotten? 😂😂 anybody who listens to this kind of music still listen to these classics. Thought these picks would be the actual forgotten ones such as Pretty Boy Floyd
ANYTHING off of Slaughter's "Stick It To Ya" album is a treasure. What a massively underrated album!
The Wild Life is much, much better...
Mark Is An EXTREMELY Overlooked Vocalist. Clarity, Tone, & Control Like Very few. At Least Back Then Anyhow.
@@AlexandertheGreat99 no it's not.
@@AlexandertheGreat99 no way
@@SOULSEER12 Vinny Vincent Invasion
Great video!! When I think of hidden gems, I think of songs like Cold Blood by Kix, Poison Ivy by Faster Pussycat, Superstitious by Europe, and lesser known bands like Everybody Loves Eileen from Steelheart. From the bigger bands, The More Things Change by Cinderella is up there. I loved seeing Warrant on here. My favorite song from them is Uncle Tom's Cabin, which is often overshadowed by Cherry Pie from the same album. I also think Warrant had some of the best ballads of the era. Heaven, Sometimes She Cries, and Blind Faith are some of my favorite glam metal ballads.
There you go. Great little bands, Kix and Faster.
The first Faster Pussycat is the best glam album that few people talk about. They really combined what was happening in LA at the time with the trashy rock of the New York Dolls.
I had the Faster Pussycat debut album on cassette tape in high school. I wore it out. It was more Gutter than Glam, it was great. I still love it.
I agree man excellent album I love shooting you down off that one
Loved "Rock Me". Wow. Intro to song is epic.
A lot of their songs have pretty great intros.
Cinderella ‘The Last Mile’
🤘🏼Rock on!
Great choices man!🤘 I was wondering if I'd see some L.A. Guns here
You will in the future.
Never Enough is one of my favorite unsung songs by them. Everybody always goes to Ballad of Jayne or Electric Gypsy, but Never Enough is a great one that doesn't get enough respect.
@@travisspaulding2222 absolutely 🤘Never Enough is my favorite also
@@ProfessorofRock Their version of "I'd love to change the World" is KILLER!
Poison's "Something to believe in" always overshadowed by Every Rose
Blue Murder "Jelly Roll"
Skid Row "Wasted Time"
David Lee Roth "Damn Good"
All amazing songs!
Jelly Roll, love it!!!!
Damn good is a special song for me. Every time I think of it, a memory from my past makes me smile.
Saw Cinderella live over half a dozen times. Whether an opening act, headliner, or in a club after their hey day, they always brought the goods and were a fantastic live act.
Some more "hidden" gems :
Teas'n, Pleas'n - Dangerous Toys
Girlschool - Britny Fox
I'll Never Let You Go - Steelheart
Shelter Me - Cinderella
Don't Close Your Eyes -Kix
Ballad of Jayne - L.A. Guns
Uncle Tom's Cabin - Warrant
For some it's a doctor, for me it'r rock N' Roll
That'll be on my grave. It's on my iPad for now lol.
Hell yes,, Texas band
Y&T "Summer Time Girls" and Trixter "Give it to me Good" were both a cheesy good time.
Great song. Summer time girls always bring a smile to my face.
I was going to say YNT Summertime Girls as well 👍
I really love Coming Home. It was the Cinderella song that meant the most to me back in those days. It was a hybrid of the hard rock that I liked mixed with a novel country/americana feel.
Rock Me was a breath of fresh air among the glam metal scene at the time! Absolutely loved the groove on that song!
One of a handful of songs I can remember exactly when and where I was when I first heard it
I was first introduced to glam metal in 1987 with Poison’s first hit Talk Dirty To Me in freshmen year high school- loved that song back then !
Thanks Brett and CC !
"Rock Me" is one of the best rock songs ever written and only the long version should be played
Wore that one particular song out on a cassette 💗
So true
True. The edited version ruins the song
I always thought Down Boys was about eating muff. Am I the only one?
😂🤣 I never thought of that, lol! But i still dont know what a down boy is...
Ridiculous
LOUDNESS Thunder In The East album is a good hidden gem of the 1980s.
I went to Mona Lake and the old west ghost town Bodie California specifically because Cinderella filmed their video "Dont Know What You Got Till Its Gone" there.
Mono Lake

Britney Fox: “Girls school”, Giant: “I’ll see you in my dreams,” Firehouse “don’t treat me bad” Are my other glam metal classics
Never could work out why Giant never took off. Such a great band.
firehouse "all she wrote"
Don't treat me bad was awesome. another good one that not many have heard is Trixters Give it to me good.
That Firehouse album is one of my favorites to put on and listen to the whole thing...
@@sleinadb underrated band for sure
Awesome choices! Long Cold Winter is one of my all time favorite albums. The vocals, the music......
