Part of the enjoyment of driving a car is the sound a car makes, the Vr6 would drone through you while driving, I bought mine mostly for the sound it make, nothing at the time could give me that, the Opel wasn't bad, but that's all I want to say about it, the Vr6 engine in anything it came in stock, or swapped brings so much joy that only a hater will hate, please do a proper review of the mk3 golf vr6, we have many available in our CPT Group.
So glad to hear that the older Super Boss is so well remembered in SA. I had the lower powered 88/89 Vauxhall GTE 16v (156bhp) back in the 90s and loved my time with it. These are underrated cars in the UK so it's great to see that you guys know just how good these cars (and that incredible engine!) truly are!
When I got to the UK in the late 90's I noticed how rough the examples of these cars looked as the salt on the roads had already taken its toll and street parking didn't help much either. In SA the same aged cars looked to be in a lot better condition and more cherished, whereas by then in the UK they were treated as beaters.
@@haegor yeah I don't think our crappy climate helped matters. Even in the 90s most had rusty rear arches and most had their door locks screwdrivered through theft attempts (either joyriders or stereo thieves) The first GTE I bought (a 84/85? 1.8 8valve) I actually bought new door locks that were a barrel anti drill type as they'd obviously been attacked with a screwdriver. I haven't seen a MK2 Astra on the roads in at least a decade. Our brain-dead government introduced a scrappage scheme 10 or more years ago that gave a large discount on a new car for any old car that was scrapped (and they literally had to be destroyed!) This killed off LOADS of old cars that might still have been on our roads. It was a disgusting idea and classic/retro car magazines were full of pictures of incredible cars waiting to be cubed by scrapyards! This of course was pushed as an environmental scheme even though it was a blatant scam to profit the new car industry. No mention was made of the pollution new car manufacturing causes (suprise suprise!)
theres a guy in orkney that has a ts astra in mint original and a original superboss in mint condition...seen them alot, my brother in law had a ts that was tuned and flew up to top speed will never forget that we hit 280 on original 16inch rims crazy drive.
Shaun 100% ......TS motor had nearly 100KW left in it from the 160KW stock level but over 220NM more in torque!!!That is why your brother hooked 280-Calibra was even more of a bullet at top speed with a 0.26 drag co-efficient 300kmh on tuned versions!
Brixton SAPS, Dog Unit, Robbery Unit & Hijack Unit. Drove Opel Kaddets 200ts in the early 90s back when SAPS still had yellow & blue cars instead of white & blue
Wow great video Cars.co.za, thanks. The Vr6 is a good modern classic, But the 200ts Kadett's and Astra's are true South African gems. It was so fast in the mid 90's it could see off an E36 M3 over a quarter mile and increase that lead over a half mile. The E36 M3 was also the car the 200ts were created to do battle with after the Superboss vs 325is battles between Mike Briggs and Tony Viana. But the rules changed and these cars never got their chance to face off each other on racing tracks around SA. Pitty, it would have been such an awesome show.
100% not true BMW me e36 210kw 320nm Opel 200ts 151kw 286nm I'm not a bmw fan but I know for a fact that the m spec vehicles were properly respected back in the day and I'm a vr6 owner
M3 was heavy in comparison to the TS......and all it took was a tune and the TS was definately up there with the M3 powerwise.I agree as a young guy watching the Stannic group N .....everyone loved seeing the light little underdog Opel smoke the 325is BMW's around the track. Three wheeling Mike Brigs with a sideways Viana was a laugh to see the contrasting FWD+RWD styles. As soon as it got too expensive Stannic pulled the plug game over -unhappy faced SA motorsports fans. I can still remember the smell of leaded fuel being pushed out the tailpipes LOL.
200ts was only made in South Africa hence why many people outside of SA Don't know about it. It's crazy to think the 200ts makes more power than a Golf 5 GTI
I had my gti engine swaped with a vr6 2.8 at home with a 93 ecu that was with no security. combining the Recaro seats with body kit and red trim that was something different. K n air filter 💪💪
The mellow-yellow BON-JOVI....BJV vs VR6(VOORA)...I will take the VR6 for that snap, crackle n pop aka Vrrrrr Phaaaa sound but for speed, bona that 280km/ph(as per speedometer reading) will do.
Emergency fishing???? What type of fish???? Bass? Tuna? Trout? Carp? Tiger? Yes yes love both cars as well. My father had a VR6 many many moons ago. That sound... And the amount of fuel it used ;)
We had vauxhall astra gsi with the 20xe 150bhp at 1st then the 20xev 134bph then the 1.8ectotec 118bhp But get any vauxhall cavalier turbo (vectra a) or calibra turbo could swap out the engine in the same day ,fast plentiful and cheap
I remember the naturally aspirated 2.0 16v Kadett of the 200 ts generation was slower than the older generation Superboss. This 200 ts went some way to restoring fans belief that Opel hadn't gone soft.
They put he 95KW 8valve in the GSI that is why ......then switched to the 99KW 1.8 16V motor ....superboss 115KW motor was fitted in a limited run for Delta employees from spare motors kept in the motorsports warehouse.
The 180is however had 99kw on tap and was a 16V, I had a 97 model for a few years and took many 200is from the lights, they`d catch me on top end though...had a TS after that, totally different ball game!
Back in the day i gave these cars a hard time with my little Honda Ballade Dohc.Robot to Robot ofcoarse...after that it looked like i pulled a handbrake ha ha
@Sean Gavin South Africa. Back then the Ts version was rare and expensive so instead many people preffered the i and is versions. Only people who were serious about hot hatch racing bought the Ts version
The VR6 was a great car, but the Ts was next level fast then ! The VR6 gearbox lets it down, its throws is way too long, Opel’s F-series gearboxes shorter throws just beats the VW’s for racing fun 😎
Ts is the benchmark of old. You'll find that it is closer to 160kw on the wheels, if it is the first years batch. Tested with 3(5) different cars on 2 different Dinos.
I drive a stock 93 Kadett 140 with low mileage; and it's an awesome car, always wanted to know how a 200t S drives. Would drive that over a new GTI of this day.

here in germany this body form was already renamed from kadett to astra f series but was never sold in germany with a turbo motor...germany´s strongest version was the astra f gsi 2.0 16v with 150 hp do to having no turbo insted of the 56 additional hp of the african turbo version. and both motor versions where first introduced in this modell to the market in 1995....in 92 opel only had 8v engines in there astra f modells...93 they had a 1.8 16v version but no 2.0...strangly enough the 1988 to 1991 kabett gsi 2.0 16v had the same motor as the 1995 astra f gsi 16v...why it took them 4 years to put the motor back into the astra f series nobody knows since the demand for the 2.0 16v engines was very high. but the biggest problems of late 80´s and 90´s opels was they where known to be rust buckets...no galvanized body, cheap metal, and thin paint let almost all of them rust there way to the junkyard within 5 years of owning one.but same can be said about vw´s and ford´s of the 90´s...and what makes finding good ones so rare these days.

That's the best content I have found on RUclips today thanks for the video guys and this guy who drove knows his stuff
No drag race.....come on guys . I wouldnt have watched this is if i knew... nice video tho.
@Rick Jess golf is shit, slow and ugly. 200ts and GSI16V is the jest best 90s hot hatch.
I love vw i had 6 golfs and jettas before but i must say a opel is a tops car with a amazing road handle.
Eem we call it a Astra GSI over in Holland😁.
But never got a turbo... Sadly
And you didn't race them?
theres a guy in orkney that has a ts astra in mint original and a original superboss in mint condition...seen them alot, my brother in law had a ts that was tuned and flew up to top speed will never forget that we hit 280 on original 16inch rims crazy drive.
What? Every petrolhead has heard about the Kadett ts. Come on now.
THANK YOU!!
Yeah, I couldn’t believe it when the narrator said that he’s never heard of a TS. What?!
We had the Vauxhall Astra GSi here in the UK. But it was a non Turbo.
Brixton SAPS, Dog Unit, Robbery Unit & Hijack Unit. Drove Opel Kaddets 200ts in the early 90s back when SAPS still had yellow & blue cars instead of white & blue
What hot laps?! Those cars can't run a hot lap without breaking down :))
I am a VW fan, but I'd take the TS over the VR6 any day.
Awesome ... thanks for the upload
100% not true
BMW me e36 210kw 320nm
Opel 200ts 151kw 286nm
I'm not a bmw fan but I know for a fact that the m spec vehicles were properly respected back in the day and I'm a vr6 owner
@@ashrafdavids5183 Its true what he said, many have said it before e36 m3 was not a match for the 200ts..sometimes its not all about power on paper.
These 2 plus e30 325is legendary
Love my old Vauxhall's/Opel's and I didnt have a clue the 200T was a thing, cool af car
200ts was only made in South Africa hence why many people outside of SA Don't know about it. It's crazy to think the 200ts makes more power than a Golf 5 GTI
Excelent videos !
Greetings from Europe !
✌️
I had my gti engine swaped with a vr6 2.8 at home with a 93 ecu that was with no security. combining the Recaro seats with body kit and red trim that was something different. K n air filter 💪💪
Muhana Ali put up some pics
The mellow-yellow BON-JOVI....BJV vs VR6(VOORA)...I will take the VR6 for that snap, crackle n pop aka Vrrrrr Phaaaa sound but for speed, bona that 280km/ph(as per speedometer reading) will do.
The Ultimate Hot Hatch battle🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please ask the owners of the cars if they will allow them to race against each other just for the fun of it. Please do a BMW E34 review
Why would they want to ruin such pristine examples of the past era?
Kresien / I'll love that cause that the only reason I'm watching
Emergency fishing???? What type of fish???? Bass? Tuna? Trout? Carp? Tiger? Yes yes love both cars as well. My father had a VR6 many many moons ago. That sound... And the amount of fuel it used ;)
lovely video
When the Popo in South Africa were using this TS wow.
As for the VR6 Wors. Beautifulllll
We had vauxhall astra gsi with the 20xe 150bhp at 1st then the 20xev 134bph then the 1.8ectotec 118bhp
But get any vauxhall cavalier turbo (vectra
a) or calibra turbo could swap out the engine in the same day ,fast plentiful and cheap
Don't forget the 2.0ltr turbo GTE red top engine
They never was a 2lt redtop (xe) turbo for the mk2 astra gte or the MK3 gsi .only redtop turbo was mk3 cavalier and calibra.

Thats great please more like this, lancer evo 5 audi rs4b5 and lap times drag races itd
the opel astra f gsi th best hot hatch of the 90s and also the astra f platform was the best astra ever it looks amazing and sounds amazing too
Hannes never heard of the Opel 200TS? cant take him seriously ever again...
TRUE What a clown
You talk about special south african cars but i didn't hear anything about a Honda Ballade AMG :P
That was a good car, a good friend of mine had one, but, nowhere near as potent as a TS...
that is opel astra f, not kadett
Back in the day i gave these cars a hard time with my little Honda Ballade Dohc.Robot to Robot ofcoarse...after that it looked like i pulled a handbrake ha ha
Opel Kadett 200t S was a unicorn back in the day. Im 33yrs and to this day ive only seen 1
@Sean Gavin South Africa. Back then the Ts version was rare and expensive so instead many people preffered the i and is versions. Only people who were serious about hot hatch racing bought the Ts version
I owned one in 2003, got really sick of attempted hi-jackings though...there were quite a few running around then...
I love the ts.. iconic vehicle
Opel Power ❤💪🏻
The VR6 was a great car, but the Ts was next level fast then ! The VR6 gearbox lets it down, its throws is way too long, Opel’s F-series gearboxes shorter throws just beats the VW’s for racing fun 😎
This is the first gen opel astra in Europe
Just wanted to know jetty vr6 and golf vr6 , I know they both have same power output which is faster ?
One of the best two cars ever made 😎😎😎
A VR6 sounded good but they were not reliable
Ts is the benchmark of old. You'll find that it is closer to 160kw on the wheels, if it is the first years batch. Tested with 3(5) different cars on 2 different Dinos.
Induction noise on the VR6 is just glorious. (Opel is cool too though)
Nice review
Where can one still get those types of VR6?
Kadett 160kw no wonder 🤣on the other video it beat a BMW 320i like it was stationery.
Last time i saw an Opel Astra or Kadette 200TS was back in 2001 in charcoal black
If you vura Owner you’d know 1 thing missing is fogs . The moment u start u vura u pull the switch
Half the flying squad perished with those 200ts back in the days(yellow ones)
Question is how they got their hands on them in the 1st place being limited to only 200 ?
Brynn Jones im pretty sure they had half of the 200
They use 200is not ts
@@juciyjcurtis7938 only used the 200is after they ran out of 200ts lol
@@andrepaulse9757 no such Ts was limited made they never used them
Why didn u do a drag race?
I drive a stock 93 Kadett 140 with low mileage; and it's an awesome car, always wanted to know how a 200t S drives. Would drive that over a new GTI of this day.
Back in the days, We compared the TS to the BMW M3 of about the same age... "The German spec"
No such thing as a E36 German spec. It was just folklore
@@menaceIIsociety187 Actually it was just a bit of "Sneaky Marketing" by BMW SA, the German Spec had the seats that only came out in the German M3 Coupe, hence the "German Spec"
If you look at an E36 M3 Coupe in the U.K they don`t have those cool seats that the S.A and German editions had...hence the name...
Where did you find these beasts !?
In Europe there was an MK3 GTI with 150hp and a 2 liter engine.
Too bad Midvaal road quality isn't that good but still an awesome video 🙌
Now i see where the 90s RnB comes from😉😋
Please do a video on a 90’s Mazda 626 turbo limited edition. Car magazine did a test in the 90’s on the kadett ts, bmw m5 if I’m not mistaken, and the Mazda
here in germany this body form was already renamed from kadett to astra f series but was never sold in germany with a turbo motor...germany´s strongest version was the astra f gsi 2.0 16v with 150 hp do to having no turbo insted of the 56 additional hp of the african turbo version. and both motor versions where first introduced in this modell to the market in 1995....in 92 opel only had 8v engines in there astra f modells...93 they had a 1.8 16v version but no 2.0...strangly enough the 1988 to 1991 kabett gsi 2.0 16v had the same motor as the 1995 astra f gsi 16v...why it took them 4 years to put the motor back into the astra f series nobody knows since the demand for the 2.0 16v engines was very high. but the biggest problems of late 80´s and 90´s opels was they where known to be rust buckets...no galvanized body, cheap metal, and thin paint let almost all of them rust there way to the junkyard within 5 years of owning one.but same can be said about vw´s and ford´s of the 90´s...and what makes finding good ones so rare these days.
The Mk3 VR6 is the best retro car ever!
This Opel was named Astra in Europe, not Kadett, Kadett was old model before, it's wierd...
Did the 200ts really come out in 1992???
Ebrahim alli 1994
VR6 all the way my dad still owns one
Same😏
Wow i am suprised if never heard about Kadett 200 ts and i Know Opel from these years very welk
In Germany you only got this model Witz the Name Astra and the most powerful the GSI 16v With 150 Ps
I hast the Calibra 2.0 16v Turbo with the Same Engine as the Kadett but only with 150 KW ( 204 PS)
👍
Love these cars😁😁🇳🇴🇳🇴
Own a regular VW Golf 3, 1,8😁😁
