Thanks so much! I have nothing against third party plugins, but so many DAWs have amazing stock tools and the Ableton ones shine when it comes to creativity.
@@pickyourselfofficial Seconding the comment above - showing an actual skill/tool/trick in the default stock helps to learn the basics, which can be expanded out to other plugins later. Appreciate the videos.
I use both ableton live 11 and fl studio. I really like your approach and video. If you want to do this in fl studio you need to add sample to fruity slicer and then use "alt+u" for chopping or "alt+a" for arpeggio in piano roll then experiment with the different patterns listed. Not exactly the same but almost same outcome
As someone who has spent a lot of time studying rhythms this is still a great approach to discover new rhythmic patterns. I especially like the juxtapostion of my own more "human" rhythms meeting with some more algorithmic approaches.
Thanks for this mate! I am very inspired and can’t wait to try it out. I’m always looking for new ways to generate interesting results and this is perfect.

Really nice, Thanks for the Tips :-) Maybe a noob question but how can i make the clip view look like yours? for me the things are shown underneath each other and not next to like in your ableton.
I have been doing this sort of thing manually for a long time but the new midi tools in Ableton 12 are great. 🫡🫡🫡 definitely learned a few tricks from this video. Thanks for posting. Great vid
Random element is what made Afterlife big. Same thing with automation - random ins and outs make the difference with most of tracks. Birings life to a whole process.Every clip with random generator sounds amazing by itself. Already used in few of my tracks. Such cool inspiration for base :) Now I know how Anyma and others get their sound. Cheers :) Best Regards from Poland neighborhood :D
Yep, love these little random and generative elements! Euclidian is much more straightforward but thanks to the rotation, you can still get cool, pseudorandom results.
Be aware that a note is an individual sound' a beat is a group of notes and a measure is a group of beats. If a measure is divided into 16 notes, there are 4 beats with four notes in each beat. This terminology has been around for hundreds of years in musical notation and theory.
Interesting. I've been looking at randomisation tools like audio modern playbeat. Mainly to get inspiration for percussion. I've not updated to live 12 yet, but it looks like it kind of does what the audio modern kit does? Interesting.
I haven't tried that. But if you haven't updated yet you can search the max for live device database and you'll find some true gems that do simlar things :)
Ty very much! Still an ableton 11 user here, so missing that integrated ableton 12 sequencer. Any free one that you recommend to achieve similar results? And the ideal paid one? (just to know). Thanks in advance!
If 99% of producers rely on premade loops only OR program the same standard rhythms in Midi (and in my experience that’s the case) then I fully stand behind it. But even beyond that: I won’t put all the work into a video and then have nobody watch it because I was shy about the title. But I respect your feedback nonetheless :)
@@pickyourselfofficial I have come to terms with the fact that this is how the game should be played on RUclips. I seem to filter out the exaggeration in the titles and over-done thumbnails and just pick out the keywords. All that matters is that the content in the video is actually helpful. I bet I wouldn't have stumbled on your phenomenal videos about mixing and mastering without these youtubey titles/thumbnails. I must admit though, I cannot imagine using the results generated by either the Seed or the Shape methods in this video. The Euclidean one seems at least workable. I feel like STING by IFTAH from 10 years back is somewhat more musical than the dribble generated by the new Ableton MIDI tools.
@@antidive9162 I feel you! Personally I love what the generative tools do BUT they still require heavy curation and deletion/ moving of elements. But it gives me a starting point even on a bad day.
Do it by hand, I still do. It takes time and it’s hard work but for music like drum and bass, downtempo etc it gives you a unique flavour that others don’t have because you’re doing it differently to how a computer program would do it. I’ve got things like recycle but use it on my own breaks to turn them into Rex files to import into logic. All my drums I slice by hand and make my own phrases, loops and single shot hits. I can also read the waveforms and know where the best loop and slice points will be by eye, that came for years of practice. It takes a long time to do it but it’s so worth it, you can spread your slices over a keyboard and play them by hand. Again, it’ll give your drums a unique feel that no one else has. Most sound like everyone else, learn to be different…..👍🏼✊🏼
How do you find the MIDI FX in Live12 compares with Logic MIDI FX, in particular randomizer in note value, transposer in modes and note repeater in multiple instances? Personally I am loving the ability to manipulate MIDI more fluidly in a variety of ways - to the point where I still find wacky ways to produce more evolved content.
Thanks for the awesome video, mein freund! I think your audio when you speak could be cleaned a bit more to be more pleasant to watch your videos. If you want, I'd be glad to help you with that ✌🏽
Super cool vid and for your conclusion about what people says about that technique, f them. All the roads lead to Rome, the important thing is loving the process 🤌 (and sometimes the result 😅)
I knoooow. It's not the mic though (I have a high-quality shotgun mic). This was LITERALLY an empty room. Every mic sounds aweful in there. But maybe with a lavalier mic it would have been 10% better... should have used that as a backup. I'll be in my studio though again for the next ones ;-)
Respectful suggestion, please consider de-S’ing your videos. This is my first watch, so maybe you do, but in this video it’s REALLY strong and sounds like hi-hats when you speak. Really great content otherwise! Gonna try a few others!!
This is interesting but you should have put the Daw in the title. I will try to translate this to my Daw but many of the key things are not straightforward to translate
This is bad advice. Making things with intention, creativity and purpose, and having the skill to do so effectively and efficiently will always outweigh random generation and lazily slapping ping pong delays on things. This is only useful for inspiration at best. I would suggest that you put on your big boy pants and actually do the work instead of making generic crap and advising others to do the same
Not my words. But I'm dead sure that this method will help anyone who watches this get better drums than 99% of artists out there who are using the same loops OR program super boring standard beats from scratch.
ok and now you sound better than 99 per cent of actual techno charts? hmmm. thats simply eucledian play of random samples. not ment to be offensive but those titelings are kind of lurid. of course generating clicks but...
