I am using Notator from C-Lab since 1990, then it became Emagic, and Logic. Then Apple bought Logic. I did not like Logic 9 but Logic 10 is the TOP DAW, and I tried so many: Ableton, Pro Tools, Mulab, Studio One, N-Track, Waveform, Reaper, Digital performer, etc... Logic X is the best.
Just ordered a MacBook Pro i9 32 g ram coming from a cheap windows laptop and Reaper ... was thinking Luna but now going to go Logic ProX 100%. I’m all in ... now an interface ???
I agree with your assessment, especially with keyboard commands. As a blind user of Logic Pro, X, I enjoy using the DAW to mix tracks and attempt to become a better producer. Perhaps start an accessibility sideseries on Logic Pro X or explain things with both keyboard and mouse shortcuts, or name controls you are navigating within so VoiceOver users know which area of the program you're interacting with.
I’ve been using GarageBand for a while now but wanted a DAW that I could do a little bit more with. This video has helped me make a better decision. Thanks a lot!
I don’t know why I goofed around for as long as I did with all these other daws. I’ve been producing on iOS, picked up a MacBook Pro about 6 months ago and for some reason decided to do the whole merry go round of ableton, reaper, FL studio, Cubase, lmms, etc. Etc. I downloaded the free trial of Logic early on in this adventure and for some reason, didn’t think I was feeling it - no idea why that was now. Just rediscovered and purchased it, very very stoked! So clean, so intuitive - plus the logic remote app for iPad rocks!
I narrowed my choice to Cubase and Logic. Head to head they are similar in functionality. Logic won out for two reasons: 1. Price. 2. Steinberg’s insane licensing circus.
Thanks for reminding us how awesome this DAW is. I have used PT, Sonar and LP. I feell like Logic is a good cross between PT and Sonar (live rec + midi + soft synth apps).
When did Logic Pro 10 launch, and from that point, how long do u think it'll be until 11 lands? Would you recommend starting with GarageBand first, then moving buying into Logic Pro X, or just learn Pro from the start? I heard they do AppStore credit bundles black Friday? They can be purchased with a set % off the price, and this is the most cost-effective way of buying Pro X? Cheers!!
Great video.. got me thinking of switching! Do you know if the current Logic Pro still come with Demo sessions like the one by Beck you mentioned? If so, do you know which? Thanks again.
I don't want to love LogicX but I do! I have tried most of the others But there is alway something missing. But do wish you could use LogicX on a PC computer
I absolutely love Logic Pro X. The kicker for me is the included sound library. It's the best stock sound library of any DAW and the sounds never ceases to provide me with inspiration. Logic rocks!
Well, listen to tracks such as "Airplanes" by B.O.B and Haley Williams and tell me that piano isn't the default Steinway piano from Logic... That piano makes money, for it to be in the top ten songs of 2010.
I've owned every version of this software since before it was Logic...it started out as Notator/Creator in the 80s and it's been a fascinating journey from there to FCPX. Because it came out of Germany, originally you needed an Atari XT to even run it because, at that time, it was THE computer in Europe. That was the software I learned MIDI on. My license plate on my vehicle to this day is MIDIMAN!! It's cool that EMagic is still involved.
I started making music in the early 2000‘s with keyboard workstations and groove boxes, then tried my hand with Cubase in mid 00s. Finally started using logic & GarageBand when I bought my first MacBook in 2011, & have used logic since. I’m pretty familiar with it, and it’s great for linear recording. But as Ableton & other software gains popularity, I sometimes wonder if I’m missing out or if there is a better workflow . I wish Apple would either add as a option in Logic or create another app, for loop playback and live performance of tracks we make in Logic.
One more point I can add: If you work from MacBook Logic has the full Touch Bar compatibility, almost every feature of editing/mixing/software instrument all those knobs and whatnot inside Logic are on the Touch Bar and interchange smartly. Touch pad also has the most intuitive use in Logic. Tried to use it in FL Studio - not intuitive at all.
The automated drummer track is amazing when accounting for how much work would go into moving drums to different spaces by hand with overhead mic boom stands. The hours Logic Pro X can save an engineer is well worth the money that you can make more of compared to the lost time you’ll never be able to get back.
What microphone are you using for your audio and what compression effects are using? How do you make it sound so great in your audio? Are you in a soundproof room?
I am currently using fl studio and I recently got a macbook pro. I am curious about logic Pro. I believe that I was never truly able to explore the capabilities due to the limitations. By limitations I mean the learning curve on each and everything in fl studio, it's a great daw though and it's the only one I have used. Do you think logic will eliminate few unnecessary hurdles and bring smooth and creative work flow? As compared to fl studio?
Thanks Chris, good video. I’ve been a musician all my life but I’m just starting into home recording. I’m planning to use Garage Band as a DAW to begin with and be able to upgrade to Logic Pro when it becomes necessary. Can you tell me what features I may miss by using Garage Band only?
I love Logic, I have been with Logic since version 9 and my first Mac. My studio is very much used for the creation by a single artist then bands, So all the instruments and loops and soforth, you couldnt ask for a better system, Great Channel too.
I’ve been with logic since forever but it’s still displays that annoying disk overload error even though I have the new Mac Pro and save all my sessions on express SSDs
Thank's! I gave up Pro Tools because I became crazy every time it crashed. And yes, it did crash! Logic Pro X is working and working and give me time to be creative instead of dealing with tech incapacity. I'm excited what will be the coming big update next time? I really like this DAW :)
Can you please start a tutorial series similar to this one for Mainstage 3 and it’s live use on stage with backing tracks, templates etc. I’m interested in quick usage familiarity and not scuba diving into creating complicated set ups. Thanks.
Logic is awesome, one bonus reason that i thought is great is thar it comes with a logic amp designer plugin, which sound super awesome.. So you don't have to pay for a third party software like bias or amplitube.. For 200 dollers.. It is a full complete package.. Logic is my go to daw✌✌✌
Very nice presentation, and right on the money. We have ProTools in the studio because most clients use it, but on my own projects, I’ve been using logic since version eight. Thanks for the good channel
If I where you, use garage band first for a few months and then purchase logic. You are able to import projects from garage band into logic anyway so you wouldn’t need to restart!
I am on the brink of buying Logic x! Should I wait for Logic X 11 or whatever they name it? I would really like to have the newest version. As you stated in your video if I pay for Logic 10 with the major update to 11 il have to pay for that one as well if I want it. Is that the case?
Did end up switching from FL Studio to Logic Pro during what I call the Omais Era of the Twilight Sparkle Period, which in my terms means the period between 15 December 2021 to 9 April 2022.
Thanks for this video! Im a home studio musician who's been using Garageband for a few years and Im ready to step up my game production wise. I've had people tell me to go Logic if Im used to the Garageband format. Is there much of a learning curve and do you recommend having a Desktop computer vs. just a laptop to run it?
Hello, I purchased a laptop with Logic Pro X already installed. How can I update to most recent Logic Pro everyone's using. Also, Do I have to pay for the update? Thanks!
Me too I just purchased an iMac with Logic Pro x on it too. I think we should be able to update it once we get our computers, right away. It’ll probably say there’s a new version of logic out and ask us to update and it shouldn’t cost anything I don’t think
Great video, thanks for posting. I have been using “Band in the Box” for a while. In “Band in the Box”, I enter in the chords to a tune and the app provides a bass and drums line. I would like to do the same in Logic Pro. Can one do this in Logic Pro? Thanks
Just got logic, after using garage band for a year or 2. All of my recent videos were made on garage band, so you can definately do a lot, but logic is just way better. Garage band helped me get a basic understanding of plugins, and music production, but now I have logic everything is just so much easier. The plugins are so much more advanced, as I play a lot of metal, the drum sounds are fantastic, especially the producer kits, that I can change for example the crash cymbals, or the Tom's. So much more customisation, and settings, the mixer page is my favourite thing. Now I have logic, I can see every plugin on every track, create busses, gain staging is so much easier, yrh if your on garage band, n thinking about getting logic, get it!!
I use GarageBand. Not sure what if gain to upgrade. I’m sure it’s there, but I’m just barely starting to record and navigating through GB to record my bass but I also have guitar but haven’t recorded that yet
Sorry I haven't read all the comments so don't know if this has already been mentioned, but you're giving a lot of credit to Apple for work that was done long before Apple bought eMagic! I think the main development team is still based in Germany and while Apple have doubtless thrown a lot of (well deserved) money at that team, I don't doubt they've also made a handsome profit from their work! I think the original and existing team deserve the credit for the solid foundation and the work done since Apple's buy out, not least because Logic has an essential practicality lacking in other Apple software. I think I got hold of my first version of Logic somewhere around 1998/99 to put the development time frame into perspective. As for being starry eyed about Apple as a company, I think you have the wrong audience - Apple have been shafting creative professionals for a good long while now with their absurd 'form over function' design decisions and increasingly poor quality control re components and thermals, for which they used to be the gold standard. Creative applications like Logic and Final Cut, along with the rock solid BSD underpinnings of OS X, more than adequately explain the explosive growth of the hackintosh community over the last five years so that creative people can continue to use their favourite applications on machines that aren't ridiculously over-priced fashion statements with built in obsolescence. You make very high quality tutorial videos but I do wonder if you might not attract more subscriptions if your enthusiasm and praise wasn't more accurately directed at the application (i.e. Logic Pro) and its developers, rather than corporate Apple, whose sole claim to fame in recent times is that they have a very big wallet with which to finance some very poor decisions.
Hey Julian, thanks for your comment! No doubt the original eMagic team laid the groundwork for a fantastic application. No questions there. But thanks to Apple purchasing and perpetuating the development of the app, we've seen it grow far beyond what I think anyone could have actually imagined it achieving. Every person/entity ever certainly has flaws that most likely can stand improving. I personally am quite appreciative of LPX.
Nolly Getgood made me look at Logic in the first place. However, you've really sold me, Chris. I've been using Studio One (which I have nothing but good to say about) but Logic just seems way more up my alley.
I am still very new to trying to record my own music. I have used GarageBand here and there over the last couple of years, so found it a little limiting. I like the idea of logic because of the cost, and the fact that it is basically a “big boy” version of GarageBand lol. I appreciate the style and simplicity of apple designs and so I think this will be the way I go.
Hey man great video and great content you make on your channel love the sound of your songs it sounds great keep up the great work and keep making great music man it sounds great
I’ve been in FL Studio for a while but it has its flaws. As soon as I clicked this video I feel like I’m already connect to Logic the same what I am with FL. I’m a pretty big Apple person too so that helps but I definitely can’t wait to get started with it
I love Logic so much that it might be at an unhealthy level. I simply cannot use any other DAWs now. In the past I've used Cubase, Ableton, ProTools, Reaper, and maybe another one I'm forgetting, but Logic is on a whole other level. It's seriously like thousands of dollars worth of software for $200, and for me it justifies buying a Mac because it's so good and has such an amazing value. It's such a joy to work in! The stock plugins are top tier. I just checked out the Billie Eilish demo that came with the 1.5 release and it's amazing! It's not exactly my style of music, but seeing the real project (with all the takes and everything) is awesome, and Finneas did it will all stock plugins. It's proof that you can make a Grammy winning album without a bunch of expensive 3rd party plugins and just use Logic. I love when updates come out because it feels like Christmas! They always include a bunch of awesome new toys to play with and great workflow enhancement. You can tell that the team behind Logic truly does care for their work.
Very good - I'm using Logic since 1.0 - only reason to use Mac is Logic - more programms I don't use with Apple. Apple without Logic - senseless! I hope Logic will return to Windows.
It wont. Dream on though... Good to dream. And its not the only reason many of us choose Mac and OSX. My Mac pro from 2009 ive upgraded, and still to this day, Powers through any job. Recently a Feature film score. And..... Its Still worth money. Can you believe it? a 10 year old computer ..... To add, The Mac Platform can run most major DAWS. My Mainstays are Logic for Composing, Protools For Post... Its also pretty impressive the OS im running (10.13) has been upgraded from 10.6.8 Snow Leopard , through every OS release , and never have I had to ever reinstall the system,...no slow downs either. Win 10 is definitely the best MS have done, I have a partition to boot into it for games., but for my creativity workflow, OSX is my choice... And before you say it, I dont want to deal with Hackintoshes. But, Im not Apple die hard fan, . Im hating apple at the moment because of the direction they are heading at the moment , in a professional sense, is mind boggling... When apple says the Next Mac pro is Modular instead of expandable, ..... Thats Apple way of saying "Its Proprietary " ... Not a Standard. F them I say...And if its comes to that, when I finally retire my workhorse, Ill definitely be looking elsewhere ... If only Cubase and protools ran on a linux release...Jeez. it'd be devastating to say bye to logic.,
Hi there, thanks for this, unfortunately my Mac book pro is old (macOS Sierra v10.12.6) so won’t take the download. Looking to get an iMac. Do you know if it’s better to get logic built into your iMac spec at source or do you just download the app from the store? I’m hearing that the built in method is better and more stable. Thanks again.
The first thing I’d say to anyone wondering about which DAW to buy is that; when you compare the look of the interface of logic to many other popular DAW’s, almost everything makes complete sense straight away. For example, compare it to Ableton Live. Don’t get me wrong, Live is a great DAW. But if you’re buying your first DAW you need your learning experience to be clear and easy to understand as possible because you’ve got years of learning in front of you.
Been using Live, which is very easy to use, but totally got tired of the user interface. Bland colors, stacking plugins on the bottom lane (taking up spave), track controls on the right side, strange looking instruments... Enoigh for me, switched to Logic, suddenly got color everywhere. Like switching from black and white to a color TV.
Should i switch to logic pro am using sonar for mixing my audio and fl for making beats lol and am not that good when it comes to mixing my vocals and the quality am gettin from sonar am wonderin if logic will be more better
Hey Gaming Zone, thanks for stopping by the channel! I'm a huge fan of Logic (obviously), so I love recommending it. But I would be remiss to not point out that you'd obviously have to adapt your workflow. For example: Logic has great sounding electronic drums, but it doesn't have a step sequencer like Studio One or Fruity Loops. We use the Piano Roll. My suggestion would be to dig into the Logic features on the Apple Website (www.apple.com/logic-pro/) and on RUclips before hitting the buy button.
The best thing about Logic Pro is it's rock solid integration with Apple only hardware. The worst thing about Logic Pro is having so much extra vertical screen space and not being able to make the faders any taller? Tiny faders are stupid. In any Daw. If they would just fix this issue Logic Pro would be perfect.
How would this compare to FL Studio. I love the look and ease of Logic Pro more, but Ive got a friend that swears by FL Studio, and I have played around with it and it is nice, I like the channel rack. Mainly though, I just want the one that will give me the most for the money (gives the most plugins and sounds at purchase) and be easiest to just jump straight into making tunes and learning on the way. I've been using Garageband on Mac for a few weeks and have loved it, and Logic looks so similar but more featured...
If you already have a Mac, Logic gives more for the money, Fl does n´t even have Amp Sims and you have to pay for a lot of other plugins that in logic just comes at purchase. I have FL studio and it is great, but i really regret not buying Logic instead. In my case i need the amps sims and the media player and for 200 bucks you can buy Logic instead of FL video player and 3rd party Amp sims.

@@midiland09 Yep I started on the Atari with Notator. Thanks for mentioning the History!
I think you´ve convinced me to go for the Logic X Pro. I did try the Logic 9 many years ago, but the X Pro is totally different ballgame I take it.
Heck yeah Joachim, hop aboard! LPX is light years above LP9.
Not gon' lie die hard ableton fan but I'm definitely using this for mixing and recording. This is dope
Thanks for the time you’ve given us to produce this video.
I feell like Logic is a good cross between PT and Sonar (live rec + midi + soft synth apps).
just upgraded from using Garageband for the past few years. Your video is the first one I'm watching on Logic :)
Thanks again.
how much was the update from 9-10 ? are you paying full amount every time there is a major update ?
I don't want to love LogicX but I do! I have tried most of the others But there is alway something missing. But do wish you could use LogicX on a PC computer
Which of course you could before Apple bought out eMagic!
I absolutely love Logic Pro X. The kicker for me is the included sound library. It's the best stock sound library of any DAW and the sounds never ceases to provide me with inspiration. Logic rocks!
Music Genius Apple Loops are pretty great; I'm surprised he didn't mention them in the video.
@Troy uk You are on your way to greatness.
Well, listen to tracks such as "Airplanes" by B.O.B and Haley Williams and tell me that piano isn't the default Steinway piano from Logic... That piano makes money, for it to be in the top ten songs of 2010.
Logic Pro is still developed near Hamburg in Germany 🤓
You mean the original EMagic team still works on it ?? The guys who made Logic Platinum back in the day?
@@Robinexs Yes 😀👍

@@anxxxbixxxxx So all the great eMagic glory, without the USB dongle!!:)).
Great video, but some of the best features you noted are in FL Studio😊
I started making music in the early 2000‘s with keyboard workstations and groove boxes, then tried my hand with Cubase in mid 00s. Finally started using logic & GarageBand when I bought my first MacBook in 2011, & have used logic since.
I’m pretty familiar with it, and it’s great for linear recording. But as Ableton & other software gains popularity, I sometimes wonder if I’m missing out or if there is a better workflow . I wish Apple would either add as a option in Logic or create another app, for loop playback and live performance of tracks we make in Logic.
One more point I can add:
If you work from MacBook Logic has the full Touch Bar compatibility, almost every feature of editing/mixing/software instrument all those knobs and whatnot inside Logic are on the Touch Bar and interchange smartly.
Hell yes! Thanks so much Tin Shed Studios :)
I’ve been with logic since forever but it’s still displays that annoying disk overload error even though I have the new Mac Pro and save all my sessions on express SSDs
OMG he’s here!
@@sush4243 who? can you explain the lore?
Can you just update logic or do you have to buy it over and over.. and will I loose my mind if I am used to GarageBand? Does it have loops too?
Thank's! I gave up Pro Tools because I became crazy every time it crashed. And yes, it did crash! Logic Pro X is working and working and give me time to be creative instead of dealing with tech incapacity. I'm excited what will be the coming big update next time? I really like this DAW :)
PRO TOOLS WORKED MY LAST NERVE WITH IT'S DIFFICULTY AND ERRORS - - I FINNA CONVERT !
I see the song arrangement on the top. Can you drag those around to change the arrangement of the song?
Can you please start a tutorial series similar to this one for Mainstage 3 and it’s live use on stage with backing tracks, templates etc. I’m interested in quick usage familiarity and not scuba diving into creating complicated set ups. Thanks.
Logic is awesome, one bonus reason that i thought is great is thar it comes with a logic amp designer plugin, which sound super awesome.. So you don't have to pay for a third party software like bias or amplitube.. For 200 dollers.. It is a full complete package.. Logic is my go to daw✌✌✌
Heck yeah! Thanks for pointing out Amp Designer :)
Very nice presentation, and right on the money. We have ProTools in the studio because most clients use it, but on my own projects, I’ve been using logic since version eight. Thanks for the good channel
If I am a beginner and know nothing about production, should I buy it?
If I where you, use garage band first for a few months and then purchase logic. You are able to import projects from garage band into logic anyway so you wouldn’t need to restart!
@@boomshakazaka8825 but the problem is they aren't any good tutorials for garageband
Can you do a video on what apple computer is best for using logic. How much ram, memory, etc....
thanks so much
I am on the brink of buying Logic x! Should I wait for Logic X 11 or whatever they name it? I would really like to have the newest version.
As you stated in your video if I pay for Logic 10 with the major update to 11 il have to pay for that one as well if I want it. Is that the case?
Just buy it upgrade are free till 11 and if u have the program I think they cut price down
Did end up switching from FL Studio to Logic Pro during what I call the Omais Era of the Twilight Sparkle Period, which in my terms means the period between 15 December 2021 to 9 April 2022.
Check the App Store for updates. Last update was in June I think.
I haven’t used Logic Pro since version 8! I use Cubase now but I think Logic is the best deal in a DAW price wize to date!!
Yeah, Logic Pro X, especially since version 10.5 is just awesome!
Is there a place where Logic Pro X users can go to suggest new features in a future version of Logic Pro directly to the Logo Pro reators?
do you think 11 will be coming out soon? ill be pissed if i buy it for $200 and need to pay it again soon
will it work well even if i have a 2017 macbook pro? or is it too big to run...
Once you get the work flow down a know where, and what, the parameters are; it’s a force to be reckoned with.
Thank you for this video!!! I’ve been debating about what DAW I want and I’ve thinking a lot about Logic Pro! I think I am going to buy this one! 🎉🎉🎉
hell ya logic pro 10 rocks ? how do u release a album from logic after record full album :)?
I'm great fan of logic .
I will buy my ( Logic Pro x ) today.... thanks to you bro
Are you able to record live instruments through logic pro like guitar, bass percussion etc?
Yeah
How many update are their like how many months or years would I have to pay 200 dollars for
I am still very new to trying to record my own music.
I’m a pretty big Apple person too so that helps but I definitely can’t wait to get started with it
Can you edit video in Logic? I make all my youtube videos in Reaper and it works great.
Where is the Control Voltage Interfaces and inputs & outputs in Logic Pro X ???
I will be really happy to use logic if they add skillhigh lighting in piano roll editor 😢
In any Daw. If they would just fix this issue Logic Pro would be perfect.
but you can change the db scale on the faders somewhere in preferences, to "exponential" I think, it's a more helpful scale for me
nice!is the 2020 macmini a good choice for logic?
Logic Pro x is one awesome daw when I make my mixing tutorials for RUclips I love using it for my channel
How long before the next upgrade do you think? I really want to buy it, but I,d feel stupid if they upgrade next month :)
Unfortunately that's a question only Apple knows the answer to ;)
Why Logic Pro Rules i went ahead and got it. Que sera sera.
Logic (and it's early predecessors) user since 1988 - love it...
What mac should I Get?
Even the version of Alchemy that comes with GB (which I assume is slimmed down) is pretty great, so many great sounds, and so modifiable.
Do you have any recommendations of us Windows users who can't get it?
...an iMac
hackintosh
I wonder how you would change this video now that 10.5 is out?
Absolutely the best Logic Tutorial RUclips Channel ever!!! Thanks so much!
Do the Guitar and Bass and vocals sound better than Garage band?
