    48 years in a few months - i'm definitely not shredded but i absolutely love being in shape. i run up and down stairs, i can rip off 15 clean pull ups, 15 ring dips, squat twice my bodyweight etc etc. being flexible and capable is everything. i still am quick to jump down and play with the 2 year olds when their parents have trouble just bending over and picking them up.
    the super benefit for me is how easy it is to sleep, and how easy it is to just jump out of bed and get my day started. i'll never ever stop working out so long as i can put one foot in front of the other.

I mean, father time will eventually win, but it is certainly possible to push back the old and frail phase by multiple decades. Easier said than done ofcourse, but the results can be tremendous.

      I personally don't like the shredded look. Seeing muscle striation and viens makes me feel queasy. My favourite look is muscular, but with enough fat to soften the look slightly. Also, it's not just about look, I find people (including myself) are just more pleasant to be around when they're not cranky and constantly hangry!
      Like you say at the start, I think it's about finding the sweet spot between underweight and overweight, and that can change over time.

    I seldom catch a cold, feel more "heat", freeze less often, but (yes) at 53y I feel very quickly if I don't recover enough.

    • @gabrielmarinho9060
      @gabrielmarinho9060 2 месяца назад

      Disagree. Aesthetics are visually appealling to everyone. The mental health issues come due to additional stuff used to get a better shape (things you don't built with just effort and consistency) and internet editions (photoshop, camera angles) to look better. If you start to live and look at people with great physiques without those enhancement factors, I guaranteed you won't have any kind of mental issues or it would be a thing spoken of 50 plus years ago.

    • @LatimusChadimus
      @LatimusChadimus 2 месяца назад +1

      @gabrielmarinho9060 just because it's appealing to everyone in modern times doesn't make it generally a good thing, it's just the fact that we have solved so many problems to the point that we actually can spend time without a lot of clothing on to protect us leading to this promotion of Aesthetics 24/7 and the fact that people are concerned with it is certainly leading to the mental health, when it should just be a byproduct and not the focus

    You have no idea how much I appreciate you making this video, currently I'm in a caloric deficit diet and I encountered some of its negative side effects and I was wondering why, things like sleep disturbance, low energy, and mood swings. Interestingly enough I am getting stronger because I'm a newbie and this is my first time cutting but I don't expect getting stronger once I reach my goal bodyweight.
    My plan once I get there would be starting a lean bulk phase and then maintain that bodyweight. I'm not aiming to be shredded because if I'm feeling this way now I can't imagine being below 10% body fat, I rather stay lean and feeling good than being shredded and feeling miserable.

Honestly nice to see that six pack veins pop up but then energy levels are going low.. which is tough being a Muay Thai coach. 67kgs now (from 78 exactly one year ago) and slooowly crawling back to my 72 aim. Also a hardgainer so beware going too low it will be a real pain to regain weight. I eat all day long (2am eating pasta rn) and add mct oil in everything, quite annoying. In the end I would strongly suggest to find a balanced state and stay away from ripped.

I'm past the point of chasing the aspects of a shredded physique, like abs, etc. I simply don't feel good long-term while looking like that. Sure, I might get an ego boost while flexing in the mirror... but I'm also sick more often, feel cold/freeze all the time, etc. I still obviously enjoy some muscular definition, but I won't let it get to a point where it interferes with my health nor the rest of my life. Working out should add to my life, not detract from it.

    other negative:
    higher risk to injury due to fatigue and low energy levels
    easier to knock down
    for women, getting that lean, especially age 40-50 (depending on when you hit menopause) can also be deleterious.
    when women hit menopause, we lose up to 5% bone mineral density (BMD) annually for the first 5 years.
    for me, at 38, I’d rather have a higher body fat (BF) and BMD as a protector against osteoporosis as I age.
    I might be a little fluffy now but Ill be a 🦊 when I’m 70 (hopefully) 😂

    I feel that my body doesn't allow me very heavy training. I have issues with different things, like knees, back on and off, etc. So I need to listen to my body and do what I can.

    Carnivore diet allows me the protein intake to build mass and the efficiency of ketosis so I can dial in my fat (energy) requirements easily without storing it as extra body fat and additionally having constant energy throughout the day

    I usually sit between 15-25% at 5’9 and 39y. I can gain weight really (!) easy though (2300kcal) and reducing my weight requires very restrictive calorie consumption (1600kcal). My favorite body fat percentage is around 18% as I look quite athletic. Also, having two small kids takes a huge toll on recovery (little sleep, disrupted sleep, regular sickness, general stress, etc.). It is called dad bod for a reason after all 😂

    They need to specify the nature of a "dad" they have in mind I think. Because some "dads" have a better body than some bodybuilders.

    I'd take 12 to 15% body fat. Currently around 25% so 10% loss would be huge!

    I have a problem that my mom wish she had "she wanted to be fit", i cant get weight, doesn't matter what i eat and how much " 0 physical activity doesn't help it to", i am always 10+- percent bodyfat.
    The only way that i can gain weight is when i am building muscles, only physical activity can increase my body weight. "i really don't know how this is possible, when i was is school and holidays have come, i stayed at home for 2-3 moths with zero physicals activity, i ate almost every day pizzas and all sorts of junk-food, in the end i lost half of kilogram."
    And i am not a stick, i am jacked, i do sport every day for several years.
    The downside off all of this is that i cannot sleep, don't have any energy and i sleep 10+ hours every day.

    I do BJJ.
    Having a little extra mass helps me be stronger.
    I’m 180 lbs and I Recently I struggled against a 260 lb white belt despite me having 4 years of BJJ experience. He was just so damn heavy that he smothered me.

    As someone who trains at an MMA gym I’ve seen guys go from chubby to shredded very quickly when they are in fight camp. However, a couple weeks after their fight they seem to have lost all weight loss progress. This seems to me like being shredded in long run is very unsustainable.

      If you wanna train mma and strength training you have to have calorie surplus, there no other way around. Maybe for short periods of time but in long run it doesn't gonna work .
