When people talk about something being "ahead of its time," this is what they're talking about. If this movie had come out ten years later, when the internet had trained people to appreciate meta-humor, it would have been a huge success and we'd probably have gotten a couple of sequels. As it was, most moviegoers didn't really understand it when it came out. But it absolutely stands the test of time, and is a ton of fun while also being very smart and having some great action sequences. Glad you guys liked it!

My trivia contribution: Danny’s teacher, who is talking up Laurence Olivier, is his actual widow Joan Plowright I’ve seen this movie so many times. It’s so genius with the way it does meta, and cameos, just jam packed. While also being shot really well to. I see/learn something new with every viewing. Like this time, I never noticed the Humphrey Bogart insert
Since y’all loved Charles Dance’s performance in this movie, I think you guys will enjoy an older movie he’s in: The Golden Child, starring Eddie Murphy. Absolutely love that movie
Hey thank you SO much for your kind donation! We've been recommended The Golden Child a couple times now! We'll give it a watch sometime! Neither of us know anything about it 😅

That’s one of the reasons I love rewatching some of my childhood favorites. So often I go back and it’s like holy shit THIS person was in this movie? I swear I could watch a movie 100 times as a kid but not know anything about the actors, then come back as an adult somehow not even realizing all those people were in it and get surprised every time. Childhood brain just remembers dude with mustache, adult me is like holy crap that’s Gary Oldman 😂
Fun fact: the song playing during the first car chase when Danny gets transported into the movie is Big Gun by AC/DC, and in the music video Arnold makes an appearance and magically gets dressed as Angus Young (lead guitarist) and ends up carrying Angus on his shoulder during the solo. Highly recommend you guys checking out the music video to see when you get a chance
It’s funny that you guys were talking about Lethal Weapon, since right at that moment the dying cop hanging in the tree says “Two days until retirement” before a Lethal Weapon-esque guitar riff plays.
- If you want more main villain Charles Dance in 80s comedies, I highly recommend Eddie Murphy’s cult classic THE GOLDEN CHILD. - Chevy Chase AND Damon Wayans Sr, if I’m not mistaken. - Other than being 20-30 minutes too long (AND having an animated cat), this movie deserves way more love than it got. - “You DID kill Mozart.” // “Maybe! I’ve killed a LOT of people!!” 😂😂😂
I do feel it overstays its welcome. if they cut most of the real-world stuff out of the third act, I think the movie would really benefit from it. It grinds the movie to a halt.
Want to know a deep cut on this movie? The guy playing Jack Slater's second cousin Frank is Art Carney, legendary comedic actor best known for playing Ed "Nawton" Norton, one of the lead roles and Ralph Kramden's best friend on *The Honeymooners* . This was his final role. Arnold met Art Carney on they set of 1974's *Happy Anniversary and Goodbye* , a tv movie also starring Lucille Ball. It was one of Arnold's first acting roles, where he had a small part as Lucy's unusually muscular massage therapist.

The Stallone T2 bit was apparently very much appreciated by Sly. In Demolition Man, he returned the favor by declaring that in the future, Arnold was made President of the U.S. in a throwaway line.
They missed an opportunity to have Arnie give a thumbs up instead of waving so it looked like being lowered into the orange of the sunset, Terminator 2 style xD
Charles Dance did a podcast interview a while back (Out to Lunch with Jay Rayner) and they got to talking about his Hollywood career. His instant reply to being asked what it was like to work on The Last Action Hero was "the catering was fantastic".
When I saw the original Jurassic Park in the theater, the projector bulb blew out just before the T-Rex attacked the kids and stuff, right after the goat leg hit the car. We just heard roaring and screaming.
I know what it's like to have a theater all to yourself, and watch a movie all by yourself on the theater screen. In 2013, when Man of Steel was still in the theaters, actually got to see the movie for the 4th time, and I was the only one who purchased a ticket, so I got to sit in the theater, by myself, with a big thing of popcorn, and I got to nerd out to 1 of my favorite Superman movies

@35:52 That's also Damon Wayans next to Chevy Chase. It looks like he was promoting Blankman while he was doing his cameo (Blankman came out a year after this) lol I've always loved this movie and didn't understand why it was more popular. Given the later successes of the Scream franchise and Shawn of the Dead, I think Last Action Hero was just too ahead of its time.

Ah yes...John McTiernan's masterpiece of meta movie...definitely one of the contenders for his "best" film, and a very underrated classic that has only gotten better with age.
I just want to ask. Are you guys going to continue the 'Tremors' series? I would really like if you would because the sequel is just as good as the first movie.
I recommend a bonkers film called "The Man with Bogart's Face" P. S. Robert Patrick had a whole slew of cameos as the T-1000. He literally couldn't get away from that character for a long, long time.
One of the funniest action comedy fantasy movies ever made! The film was a box office and critical disappointment, making $137 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget. It opened up the same weekend as JURASSIC PARK. It's gained a cult following overtime and people have started enjoying the movie.
You need to watch Conan. It was his first big movie. Plus, you’ve seen Arnold with all sorts of guns, but Conan is Arnie wielding a big sword while flexing in a loincloth!
Conan wasn't Arnie's first movie. Hercules in New York was his first movie. Followed by "The Villain", which was basically a live-action Coyote & Road Runner movie co-starring Burt Lancaster....
Awesome reaction dudes 😊This is still for me one of my favourite Arnie movies i think its so underrated and it has such a unique original plot! Theres so many things i love about this movie my favourite band ever AC/DC wrote the song Big Gun for the movie which is the music that plays after Jacks second cousins house explodes and i definitley recommend checking out the music video for,Charles Dance is incredible as the villain,Danny Devito cameos as an animated cat, theres so many movie easter eggs throughout my favourite being the Cop/T1000 from Judgement day but my absolute favourite character in the movie is Sir Ian Mckellen as Death just steals the show right at the end! Also that "My Dune"joke caught me completley off guard and was perfect 😂
Hey Nice Dudes when LAH came out there was a contest asking people to find the 12 movie mistakes (purposely made) with a prize being able to go to a premiere or some big event. The rubber gloves electrification, cars taking bullets after guns stop firing, etc.
This movie was way ahead of its time. Most people, including me, didn't like it at first. But it's definitely earned a cult following due to its meta humor and action movie tropes.
Thanks guys 👍🏻. There were far more cameos than you realize in this movie… worth looking up. Watched this at the movies when it came out, so different and unique
This movie was panned hard by critics. I can only guess they didn't get it, since I thought it was a great parody of the genre, and so does pretty much everyone I know who's seen it. Loved the video as always, guys!
On my dvd wall, there is a section for "Saturday afternoon" movies, and Last Action Hero is a perfect film in this collection. Action, fun, lightweight, but not cheap, with so many easter eggs for movie fans. I love it!
*YES* I was 11 or 12 when this movie came out, and I remember watching it with my best friend, and we absolutely *loved* it. I was sad to learn later in life that it was so poorly received, because there's nothing about it that doesn't work. It's got great writing, the jokes are hilarious, every actor was bringing it, the effects are on point (except for the "E.T." gag, that one looks a little janky). I guess for whatever reason, people didn't like how it's basically a parody of itself and the action movie genre. I'm beyond floored that you guys picked this (or if it won, if that was the case).
I think I was about the same age, which is why the whole "critics didn't get it" is so bonkers to me. If an 11-year old can get it, how the hell do grown adults who watch movies for a living not get it?
I played a game with some friends, where we would name 2 hollywood actors, and would try to connect them through shared movies, to see if we could get the longest connection. I suggested Arnold and Gandalf, an unlikely pairing, and it turns out both are in this movie here
When I was 17 back in 1996, I worked in a movie theater, and they had to screen movies the night before to make sure they worked properly. I was invited to once to the screening of The Crow 2 City of Angels because I worked there. It was only 3 or 4 of us and got so drunk I stepped out to the bathroom and apparently passed out on the floor of the bathroom for a while. They said, "Where were you? You missed 25 minutes of the movie!" 😂
Fantastic movie. In calling out all the action movie clichés this film somehow ends up being a better action movie than most. Loved it as a kid, love it even more now with more knowledge about films.
The first moment that I saw you guys put this video up I remembered the time when I saw this movie a long while back and knew it'd be exciting to partially relive it, but seeing you guys watch it was more than just reliving the movie, it's realizing that this movie was my very first Arnold movie. I knew he was a one-liner guy and understood the tropes and enjoyed the movie back when I watched it as it's not just an Arnold parody, but it's incredible realizing references like Robert Patrick and some other cameo performances popping up that I didn't know about when I originally watched it.
Did you notice that "Jack Slater lV" was a Franco Columbu film? Franco Columbu was Arnold best friend and training partner in his days as a world champion body builder. Columbu also took the Mr. Olympia title in 1981.
7:27 Franco Columbo was one of Schwarzenegger's best mates and body building buddies, and had cameos in Arnold's film, most notably as a Terminator/Infiltrator in the film _The Terminator_ [1984].
I've actually gotten pretty close with some of my 2nd cousins.I don't know why it doesn't happen more often. I love my first cousins, they have kids, the kids are 2nd cousins with each other.
I'm glad you brought up the movie Thief. James Caan has said in an interview it was his favorite movie he ever worked on. It's also well known in the gun community because James Caan went to Gunsite back in the day and trained with Jeff Cooper to get his gun manipulations down, it can be seen in Thief a lot.
Great reaction! This was actually a very underrated movie! The concept of getting a magical ticket and entering your favorite movie - and then having your favorite movie characters coming back into the real world is just a SPECTACULAR idea. And Last Action Hero does have alot of fun with it. It is jam packed with plenty of terrific action sequences as well as some good laughs. However - that might be the small issue I have with it. I think there is a little too much satire and comedy here instead of the magic promised at the beginning with the ticket and the usher. After all, if any of us ever got popped into our favorite movie franchise we would be filled with awe and wonder. But Danny just makes fun of everything and it becomes a comedy. And while funny, it does take away some of the magic that the film should absolutely have. Still though, it has enough action and laughs to make it a fun ‘90’s action comedy. But boy - it definitely feels like so much more could have been done with that concept!
Going to see this movie got me in a lot of trouble, I was 11 years old and my friend and I rode our bikes to the theater down the street leaving a not very detailed note for our parents. We were not expecting the movie to be 2 hours and 10 minutes long. So we didn't get out of that theater until the sun was way down and we were in big big trouble. This is 1992 no cell phones I had some nickels in my pocket for a payphone but I dropped them on the bike. We finally get back to my house and they have been freaking out panicking and even called the police.
I love Arnold and Sly's common goal of making fun of both each other and themselves. This one is of course mainly Arnold making fun of himself, but Sly gets a nod too with the Terminator 2 gag. Charles Dance _really_ shines in this. His portrayal of Benedict is so fantastic, rivalled only I think by his role in The Golden Child, which I really do recommend you watch.
In the late 80's - early 90's Arnold decided to do some lighter movies after Terminator, Commando and so on. So he made 'Twins' with Dani De-Vito,' True Lies' with Jamie Lee Curtis and this movie. 'Twins' was made to show that he have comic abilities. 'True Lies' was made to make fun of spy movies by taking it to the verge of the absurd. But 'The Last Action Hero' was made as a very self aware movie making fun not just of Arnold's movies but basically from every action movie of the era. This movie is epic.
Fun fact: Alan Rickman was the first choice for the movie’s villain but he wanted too much much money. So they went with Charles Dance. Charles Dance then wore a t shirt to the set that said “Cheaper than Alan Rickman.” He has great sense of humor.
Now that's an epic move to wear that shirt 😂

Ah yes...John McTiernan's masterpiece of meta movie...definitely one of the contenders for his "best" film, and a very underrated classic that has only gotten better with age.
"I forgot he had a mother" that mother is academy award winner Mercedes Ruehl
This is the first movie soundtrack I ever bought.
ACDC, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Queensryche, Aerosmith, Def Leppard.
It was stacked.
I think Mr. Benedict is my favorite movie villain. He's just amazing.
I just want to ask. Are you guys going to continue the 'Tremors' series? I would really like if you would because the sequel is just as good as the first movie.
This movie is criminally underrated and misunderstood. Way ahead of it’s time.
Ok.. Doing a Skin Care Ad during an Arnold Schwarzenegger action scene? That took balls.. and it was funny as hell to me! lmfao!! Perfect Segway lol
I recommend a bonkers film called "The Man with Bogart's Face"
P. S. Robert Patrick had a whole slew of cameos as the T-1000. He literally couldn't get away from that character for a long, long time.
I freaking love this movie. I was psyched to get the notification that you reacted to this… and it was a great reaction. Thanks for this.
This movie was so underrated, loved it as a kid, and it's honestly only gotten better with age.
A following reaction to AC/DCs "Big Gun" music video is mandatory. Seeing Arnold in the footsteps of Angus Young is Comedy gold!
It's brief, but Charles Dance was in dracula Untold as well, and despite the reputation that film has, I think it's phenomenal.
@@mutazoia That's why I specified "Big".
I love it!
*YES*
I was 11 or 12 when this movie came out, and I remember watching it with my best friend, and we absolutely *loved* it.
Fun fact: the credits list Robert Patrick as the T-1000, meaning this takes place in the Terminator universe.
This is one of my favorite Arnold movies.
Worked at a theater for about 4 years, we got to watch a good number of early showings of movies with just the employees. Truly was a fun job
I'm sure there wasn't time but the 360 180 bit was one of my all time favorites. I had a coworker that would do that bit all the time
I played a game with some friends, where we would name 2 hollywood actors, and would try to connect them through shared movies, to see if we could get the longest connection. I suggested Arnold and Gandalf, an unlikely pairing, and it turns out both are in this movie here
Isn't that how you play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?
@@itzakpoelzig330 yup! I guess you could see this as a variant of that :)
Welcome back and one fantastic movie to pick. Love this movie.
A+ gentlemen. You're positive energy is fantastic!
I love last action hero I’m so glad that you guys are watching this movie
I saw this when it came out in a near empty theatre.
Danny Divito voices the cat. Best movie soundtrack of the nineties, third behind The Flash Gordon and The Highlander soundtracks.
Both of those are 1980s movies.
another of my all time favorite movies growing up!!!!
This movie is an underrated masterpiece!
Still have it on VHS!
24:53 Yooooo I had this same watch in high school. Damn I loved that watch!
At 7:27 it reads "A Franco Columbu Film".
Franco Columbu was Arnie's bodybuilding buddy, and he appeared in other Arnold films.
Did you notice that "Jack Slater lV" was a Franco Columbu film? Franco Columbu was Arnold best friend and training partner in his days as a world champion body builder. Columbu also took the Mr. Olympia title in 1981.
I love how much you guys loved it! This is one of the most underrated movies!
7:27 Franco Columbo was one of Schwarzenegger's best mates and body building buddies, and had cameos in Arnold's film, most notably as a Terminator/Infiltrator in the film _The Terminator_ [1984].
7:27 fun fact: Franco Columbu was a famous body builder and a 2 time Mr. Olympia winner. He was a close friend of Arnold's.
OMG! Charles Dance as Hans Gruber, i need to see that!
I've actually gotten pretty close with some of my 2nd cousins.I don't know why it doesn't happen more often. I love my first cousins, they have kids, the kids are 2nd cousins with each other.
I appreciate a dude who gets hyped when Robert Prosky shows up. As one should.
This is my favorite Arnold movie. I was sipping my coffee and saw this posted. Solid morning starter. Just like when you guys did demolition man. Lol
Unironically, one of my favorite Arnold movies. Even though at that time I don't know much about movies yet.
LOVE THIS MOVIE❤
Thanks for viewing fam💜💜💜
I have always loved this movie so much. It's so well made, funny and serious at the same time, a great villain. Perfect.
You guys deliver the best reaction videos! You make this so much more enjoyable.
Thank you so much!
