I played this song for my 22 year old son the other day and he was blown away,He started playing it for his friends and none of them had it heard before either, they were instantly hooked!
Eric Ben'et did a version in 1999, with Faith Evans on the chorus. Almost 20yrs after the original. His was a little more RnB with a heavier bass kick. More house party vibe. I like both the original and the remake. That piano in the original is killer though. We have to steer the younger generation toward old school music. @@lalaloolooOr because older generations (you) refuse to go out and seek the music that people ACTUALLY listen to. Do you really think people actually listen to the radio? I can answer that question for you. Nobody actually listens to what's played on the radio. Everybody agrees it sucks. Want an example of a good band thats on the new side? Greta Van Fleet. Want another? Look at Mac DeMarco. Tool is pretty good too, though they're 2000s. Tame Impala is pretty damn good too. Look it up yourself. Don't just say "lol the kids are stupid." Hell, boomers (the "best generation" apparently) raised the newer gens. If anything, they should be better, unless you're saying boomers are a failure and did a shit job at raising their kids.
While this song wasn't a chart topper, it is my favorite Toto song. I love all the little things they threw into this musically to give it a wall of sound. What a mellow, chill song. How can you listen to his and not feel good?
You are right on point. I didn't know that this song was by toto and to top it off didn't know Cheryl Lynn song the hook . I was walking in to Target this morning and heard this blasting and immediately start bobbing my head
Toto has always been very popular in The Netherlands. You can hear songs from them on Dutch radio every day. Especially Stop Loving You that made number 2 in the charts back in '88. But Georgy Porgy is also my absolute favorite Toto song!
The drummer played on hundreds of 70s/80s hits and sountracks. He was a "one take" drummer and studios loved him. See Thriller album, Madonna, etc etc etc.
Steve's voice is one of my favourites out of all their voices, I think it is because the first time I heard Toto, he was singing and when `I hear his voice it is Toto, the distinction in his voice is very subtle but suits this song perfectly. The whole band is individually a master class in their own right but together they have a sound that is timeless and I am so glad I grew up to this!
ToTo has a sound all their own. I first had Classic back in h.s. It’s just such a great song and with Cheryl Lynn singing her part it’s even better. I really think that music from the 60’s-80’s era is the greatest era of music ever recorded.
@Swapster .com I'll agree with you there as a 22 year old - maybe check out some of the music put out by independent labels. One of my favourite recent albums is Skiptracing by Mild High Club, which has both musicanship and good production imo. To Pimp A Butterfly is also incredible too

Have many more great times! Margie Richko 💜
Yes Life was beautiful and filled with love and joy just like the music we had and Georgy Porgy was apart of it all.... Miss the 70s but I'm still playing the music on my old gear from the 70s
Absolutely!! Hard rock, prog rock R&B, balads, classical (Dune), jazz (with Miles Davis), funk (some songs on Fahrenheit album and also 'Let it go' on FIB, and heavy metal jazz fusion with 'Jake to the bone' etc
Not really. Disco & 70s style R&B were approaching their height of popularity when this album came out. However, Georgy Porgy is one of the best tunes ever released in the genre, and made Toto's superb debut album even more eclectic. 👍👍 (I couldn't stand most disco...generally it was extremely dumbed-down R&B....but I loved this tune from the moment I first heard it!)
The best band of the best musicians on this planet!! The Porcaro brothers, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Bobby Kimball, no better mix of players to ever put a band together. TOTO, you ROCK!!
I love all members of the band, Steve Lukather just has some of my favorite vocals. Take nothing away from any of the other singers, or instrumentalists, Luke just rocks in every ways as a singer and guitarist. Just my 2 cents.
+Michael Ackerman I agree...This group of session musicians know how to write great music and play with precision and grace. Luke is one of the best guitar players on the planet. I watch the Toto Live in Poland 35th anniversary concert all the time...It showcases great music, musicianship, and great vocals as well!
I always felt Toto's genius was great players serving the song and nobody overplaying. Certain bands have skilled players that felt like every song was a talent show. Anyone in this band could be first call session players, yet nobody stood out. Intentionally imo. Made for really, really great songs.
Toto, sempre uma excelente Banda de músicos feras, da prazer em assistir os vídeos e ouvir as bem elaboradas canções deles. Parabéns pelo belo trabalho musical.
I'm just 16 years old, in the past I'm K-POP fan turned into 70s & 80s enthusiast, I loved to listen this song, specially TOTO band is one of my favorite, and Jeff Porcaro is such an amazing drummer, Steve Lukather so much loved her voice
Where Jeff Porcaro shines is in his masterclass ability to play in service of a song. That's why he wouldn't solo. His tracks , groove and superb feel where all to serve the music. If it was on a Toto song or a MJ track. If it was Steely or the many others gigs he played in the studio. That ability makes him one of the greats.
He was definitely one of the greats, and his Dad was a super class act musician as well. They left CT to go to CA where they made it big...Such a great musical family. Recently just losing Dad Porcaro Joe.
Wtf! Im 35 and all the time I thought this song was from a black group, had no idea it was from the mega awesome Toto, a very pleasant surprise. Those guys had soul for dayssssss
I guess you never heard the version with Eric Benet and Faith Evans. Evans ties Cheryl Lynn but Eric Benet blows this guy out the water on vocals and the track is better. some covers actually outdo originals. It' rare, but his is one case.
@@realitycheck5311 Toto created it. This version is killer. I guess the cover is more "modern black style" which I`ll pass on. Can`t stand modern music.
Superior blue-eyed soul (as it was known back in the day). Cheryl Lynn's sultry, teasing backing vocal is the perfect counterpoint to that brooding, melancholy lyric. And I love this video as much as the tune itself--they're all so in that groove.

Want an example of a good band thats on the new side? Greta Van Fleet. Want another? Look at Mac DeMarco. Tool is pretty good too, though they're 2000s. Tame Impala is pretty damn good too.
Look it up yourself. Don't just say "lol the kids are stupid."
Hell, boomers (the "best generation" apparently) raised the newer gens. If anything, they should be better, unless you're saying boomers are a failure and did a shit job at raising their kids.
@@cherrypepsi2815 oh you’re so cute little kid. Go eat rocks 😊 you know nothing
Estoy en la misma
While this song wasn't a chart topper, it is my favorite Toto song. I love all the little things they threw into this musically to give it a wall of sound. What a mellow, chill song. How can you listen to his and not feel good?
@Linda Bentley steve lukather
@Linda Bentley steve lukather
And the way it's been covered and sampled speaks to its perfection
Chart Topper? Do you know the competition in '78..'79?
It was on the radio all day, everyday in NYC!!! It topped our chart!!!! I absolutely love them❤
Toto's best song
A certified groove
I LOVE this song by Toto! And the chorus collaboration with Cheryl Lynn is soulful perfection! 😊👏🏾🎶🎤🎸🥁
they shouldve had her in video
Thanks for clearing up who's the background vocals ❤

@@cle-chi Yes, I've always wondered who sang that very important part! They definitely should have had Cheryl in the video.
The bassline of this song is superb
I am so obsessed with his voice. Damn i love this song. Such a groove!

You are right on point. I didn't know that this song was by toto and to top it off didn't know Cheryl Lynn song the hook . I was walking in to Target this morning and heard this blasting and immediately start bobbing my head
Toto is one of the most UNDERRATED bands of the last 50 years, change my mind...
Toto has always been very popular in The Netherlands. You can hear songs from them on Dutch radio every day. Especially Stop Loving You that made number 2 in the charts back in '88. But Georgy Porgy is also my absolute favorite Toto song!
Whoever the drummer is, he's freaking killing it. His timing and rhythm is crazy.
It was the fabulous Jeff Porcaro, the best!
@@angelarodrigo2275 Jeff Porcaro is plays drums Steve Porcaro plays synthetiser
@@midnight.blue42 yep
The drummer played on hundreds of 70s/80s hits and sountracks. He was a "one take" drummer and studios loved him. See Thriller album, Madonna, etc etc etc.
"THAT" drummer is The Man, The Myth, The Legend......Jeff Porcaro!!!!!!
Who tf listening TOTO in 2023? All school gangstas on Gomunkul 6 now h
@@2iYCjaNG IAM:)
ToTo has a sound all their own. I first had Classic back in h.s. It’s just such a great song and with Cheryl Lynn singing her part it’s even better. I really think that music from the 60’s-80’s era is the greatest era of music ever recorded.
Dey da BOMB boy, wat you talking, I feel you and agree wit cha.
I remember as a kid in the summer of 1978 our local am radio station playing this song quite often.
Back when groups were assemblies of musicians!
what are they made today?
Eddie Van Halen said this was the best assembly of musicians in a single band
@Swapster .com I'll agree with you there as a 22 year old - maybe check out some of the music put out by independent labels. One of my favourite recent albums is Skiptracing by Mild High Club, which has both musicanship and good production imo. To Pimp A Butterfly is also incredible too
The 70s were FANTASTIC
This song had a lot of the " big boys " participating on it. Like a who's who of studio musicians and the like.
❤❤❤ I'm Margaret Richko married to my only love Alan Richko ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥 It's 1:54 CST in Chicago and it's July 16th 2024 We're sitting on our bed listening to Toto's Georgy Porgy reminiscing the old days the best days and realizing just how Blessed we are to still be together after 35 years and loving each other and our life and of course Georgy Porgy by Toto!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊 Anybody else have a special memory that that comes to mind when you hear this song??? Have many more great times! Margie Richko 💜
You’re great
How sweet!!!!
Yes Life was beautiful and filled with love and joy just like the music we had and Georgy Porgy was apart of it all.... Miss the 70s but I'm still playing the music on my old gear from the 70s
That's great Margaret! Hope you and Alan make it to 50, 55 and beyond!
I remember these songs growing up. Didn't realise Toto sung many of these songs. They have my total respect.
I've only realized Toto sang this song today. Lol.
I’m having this same revelation.
I guess you could say they have your "toto" respect? 🤣
Great tune . great vocals

Hard rock one minute and smooth R&B the next. That's Toto's versatility for you.
SIGMAMAN69 lol right that’s why i love them
And didn't they do the soundtrack for Dune?
Yes,they did
I remember as a kid listening to this on R&B radio stations so much. Toto still blows my mind to this day! Many hit's!!!
Absolutely!! Hard rock, prog rock R&B, balads, classical (Dune), jazz (with Miles Davis), funk (some songs on Fahrenheit album and also 'Let it go' on FIB, and heavy metal jazz fusion with 'Jake to the bone' etc
Great song 🎵 ❤
This band remains one of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame biggest snubs. Been eligible 24 years.
That’s insane
Toto and this hit was Waaaaaay ahead of their time.
One of the most beautiful songs i have heard! The lyrics, the tune, the singer😍 the musicians, I mean everything in this song is pure magic!
Agreed👍
FOR REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER THESE YEARS I DIDN'T KNOW TOTO made this song!
My son, 2 years old, loves this band. 🥰🥰🥰
How in the world aren't TOTO in the rock and roll hall of fame !!! Absolutely ridiculous.
Because they are enigmatic!
The best band of the best musicians on this planet!! The Porcaro brothers, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Bobby Kimball, no better mix of players to ever put a band together. TOTO, you ROCK!!
Michael Ackerman Don't forget keyboard player David Paich. He founded Toto with Jeff Porcaro, and he wrote hits like Rosanna, Africa and Pamela.
I love all members of the band, Steve Lukather just has some of my favorite vocals. Take nothing away from any of the other singers, or instrumentalists, Luke just rocks in every ways as a singer and guitarist. Just my 2 cents.
Michael Ackerman Mike your absolutely right one of greatest under rated vocalist
Michael Ackerman he's naturally a great singer and can make a guitar sing too
+Michael Ackerman I agree...This group of session musicians know how to write great music and play with precision and grace. Luke is one of the best guitar players on the planet. I watch the Toto Live in Poland 35th anniversary concert all the time...It showcases great music, musicianship, and great vocals as well!
Love this song!!
❤🎉
I always felt Toto's genius was great players serving the song and nobody overplaying. Certain bands have skilled players that felt like every song was a talent show. Anyone in this band could be first call session players, yet nobody stood out. Intentionally imo. Made for really, really great songs.
They literally were first call session players
Toto, sempre uma excelente Banda de músicos feras, da prazer em assistir os vídeos e ouvir as bem elaboradas canções deles. Parabéns pelo belo trabalho musical.
Jeff Porcaro was a prolific session player on a ton of hits.
Saul Goodman brought me here! Ha ha just kidding! I m old enough for this beautiful song!
Ha! Me too…Saul Good Man!
dude season 6 brought me here like iam watching it rite now😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just like me 😂 👍👍
saul Goodman brought me here
Why is that? I already watched BCS and I don't remember anything about this song
I'm just 16 years old, in the past I'm K-POP fan turned into 70s & 80s enthusiast, I loved to listen this song, specially TOTO band is one of my favorite, and Jeff Porcaro is such an amazing drummer, Steve Lukather so much loved her voice
You can be both Kpop and Toto fan!! enjoy all the music you like and have fun!!! 🙌🏻

Same here!! I listen to kpop and 70s, 80s nothing wrong with exploring different genres that you like!
That is the voice of an angel
Funk music at its best. My favorite Toto jam.
60 years old and still loving this song.
Excellent observation.Thank you.
Timeless Classic!
One Of The Greatest Compositions Of The Last 50 Years.
2:40 look at Jeff when Luke makes the note with such a prideful smile. That was an amazing bond. Unreal band.
I love how the drummer is mouthing “yes” when the lead singer Steve is belting so sweet supporting fellow band members ❤

So did I! Live long and prosper, y’all!
Lol I’m 35 also and looove this song and just found out by YouTubing it that they were white … like Bobby Caldwell which I found out like 8 years ago
You thought it was side effects song they remade it a year after Toto put it out . Toto 1979 side effect 1980 Mc lyte version 1991.
Awesome song
It's a perfect song. There's nothing that could be improved or changed. Perfect beat, sounds, voice, ...
Listen to Eric Benet and Faith Evans version
I guess you never heard the version with Eric Benet and Faith Evans. Evans ties Cheryl Lynn but Eric Benet blows this guy out the water on vocals and the track is better. some covers actually outdo originals. It' rare, but his is one case.
@@realitycheck5311 nahh both are good but Steve is just a god of vocals and guitar
@@realitycheck5311 Toto created it. This version is killer. I guess the cover is more "modern black style" which I`ll pass on. Can`t stand modern music.
Porcaro was such an amazing drummer. This band was top ten all time
Superior blue-eyed soul (as it was known back in the day). Cheryl Lynn's sultry, teasing backing vocal is the perfect counterpoint to that brooding, melancholy lyric. And I love this video as much as the tune itself--they're all so in that groove.
I completely ADORE this song!
This song is PURE SOUL!!!!! and it's perfect
