I don't know the right words to express how powerful this song was back in the day. The vocal harmonies and the massive groove was addictive. I had never heard anything like it......... I played it over and over and over and over again. Godz I miss those days. I was 14/15 years old.
I had no idea. Ohhhh man. He was one heck of a drummer. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Dear God he passed away on my mom's birthday. She passed away in May 1988. Rest in peace Ginger. Ohh man.
This was the song that turned me onto serious rock. I heard it on the radio and called my best friend to listen out for it - but as he picked up the phone, his first words were "Yes, I heard it too!"
Blood is freezing in my veins when I hear this song on a radio. 30-35 years ago when old people were alive, mourners "crying ladies" in Russia were singing funeral songs over a crop with the same melody as the chorus of this song. As I was kid it was stamped into my brain. Rest in peace Genger Baker
Great song and Band...Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, and Ginger Baker were ahead of their time during the late 60's...Their first 3 albums were amazing. I was fortunate to see them live in Sacramento, Ca in 1968
@@carolynzaremba5469 I know the original post is old. But the man that changed it all. He was in fact ahead of his time. Jimi Hendrix. Just listen to pre Hendrix to the UK music. Then listen to how it all changed. When bands heard Hendrix. Clapton didnt change anything. He is great. But he changed nothing.
All versions of Cream - I Feel Free videos don't have 1M views in total, whereas Lady G's most unknown songs have 10s of millions of views. We are a doomed civilization. This is so good I play it in loop for 10x sometimes.
One of my all-time favourite songs, too. Clapton, Bruce, and Baker combine just the right amount of energetic guitar, tambourine, jazzy drums, and dreamy harmonies on this vibrant, refreshing song. The slow motion, black-and-white footage amidst the park is just so perfect for the sound. The Monty Python-like horseplay adds enjoyable humour.
Here's the thing tho, people do whatever is allowed right now, no matter whether it's safe or reasonable. And I hate that. Not saying you shouldn't eat at places, but act wisely
I've been looking for this song for over a decade. I only heard it once in Film class used for a mafia film someone made. I was watching The Sopranos this week for the first time and this was one of the ending credit songs, I couldn't believe it finally caught up to me in my life eventually. It's funny how things happen like that, and what a name, "I Feel Free" indeed. I even tried humming it for Google tune search and I never could find the song until today.
I saw Cream at the "Twisted Wheel" all nighter in Manchester when I was about 17. That was over 50 years ago. I think it was their first show out of London. I can still remember this song despite me taking 20 blue tablets. It still sounds good!
It's so awesome to come here to watch this video for my favorite Cream song and see so many people openly expressing their passion for this music. It makes my heart happy. Yay :)
It was one of the very few times he didn't play his Guitar and you see he's so happy before the Nightmare of Drugs & Alcohol controlled him. I think that him and Rod Stewart hold the Record for being in more Groups than any other person in Music. The Yardbirds, Cream, Traffic, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Derek & The Dominoes and Blind Faith. If I missed anyone forgive me.
I had no idea. Ohhhh man. He was one heck of a drummer. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Dear God he passed away on my mom's birthday. She passed away in May 1988. I don't remember Jack passing away either. Rest in peace Ginger and Jack. Ohh man. Wow, no respect for great amazing music artists. Wow. Sad. Thank you for great music. To musical history. You'll never be forgotten.
Another one from Cream gone. RIP Ginger Baker. You inspired many to pick up a pair of drum sticks and learn to play. "I Feel Free" was the opening song to Cream's first album. What a way to begin the journey.
First time I heard this was on the BS net...sitting in my OP at a firebase in Quang Tri province....1966. Sun was going down. I hear this and it's like it was yesterday.
While I've liked this song since I was a kid, I still picture Tony Soprano's nearly being shot as soon as this song begins, when the bullet hit his bottle of orange juice, ending the season, but him living. With that and this song accompanying the scene, you knew shit was about to get really real after that!
Fantastic song, one of Cream's best for me. I just wish the dirty-sounding rhythm guitar, Jack Bruce's great bassline & the one-note pounding piano were louder in the mix.. but they wanted the vocal harmonies to be heard clearly - I guess... a cool vintage 'video' as well (although it cuts the song slightly shorter than it is). Great upload. Thanks for posting this!
A timeless classic that makes me so proud to be British. I'm the son of 60s immigrants to the UK and our past music snd culture is so precious. My 15, 11 and 8 yo children love this music too as it's far more superior to what is called music today.
Great song! One of the band's best! I like the Cream of the "Fresh Cream" era better than anything else that they did. I wish that they would release a 2 cd deluxe edition of the "Fresh Cream" album. The "Fresh Cream" era recordings rank alongside the classic John Mayall & Bluesbreakers & Graham Bond Organisation recordings of the time as some of the best. Cream really had it together when they made their first recordings. Give it a listen & see why.
I PRAY YOU'LL HEAR MY FRIEND KELLY PLAY HIS HEART OUT IN LOVING MEMORY OF YOU. HE'S GOOD, REALLY GOOD...R.I.P GINGER BAKER, FEEL FREE NOW...YOU ARE TRUELY FREE NOW. AMEN
Clapton’s guitar solo on this tune is an absolute clinic in how to play a great guitar solo. The opening is soulful and melodic. He beautifully decorates and develops the melody of the song. And then he switches to the bridge pick up and rips your face off. So simple and so brilliant.
What a voice Jack Bruce has!
A superb voice. Great vocal range and phrasing and his voice and a wonderful and unique vibrato. RIP Jack.
Danced to this with Cream playing live at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit in 1967! On acid, no less. Oh YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
This makes me smile.
Zedwoman legend!
Sweet, Zedwoman. You, my dear, are among the fortunate few....
oh wow you’re soooo lucky. to catch Cream in the beginning, awesome.

Better than the Beatles

There were a few of them in 1966 that were like that. A magic year, perhaps.

I’ll be feeling like this when lockdowns have finally ended.
