"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written by the English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725-1807).
With the message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, "Amazing Grace" is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world. Author Gilbert Chase writes that it is "without a doubt the most famous of all the folk hymns," and Jonathan Aitken, a Newton biographer, estimates that it is performed about 10 million times annually. It has had particular influence in folk music, and has become an emblematic African American spiritual. Its universal message has been a significant factor in its crossover into secular music. "Amazing Grace" saw a resurgence in popularity in the U.S. during the 1960s and has been recorded thousands of times during and since the 20th century, occasionally appearing on popular music charts.
Mahalia Jackson's 1947 version received significant radio airplay, and as her popularity grew throughout the 1950s and 1960s, she often sang it at public events such as concerts at Carnegie Hall.
The U.S. Library of Congress has a collection of 3,000 versions of and songs inspired by "Amazing Grace", some of which were first-time recordings by folklorists Alan and John Lomax, a father and son team who in 1932 traveled thousands of miles across the South to capture the different regional styles of the song.
More contemporary renditions include samples from such popular artists as Sam Cooke and The Soul Stirrers (1963), The Byrds (1970), Elvis Presley (1971), Skeeter Davis (1972), Mighty Clouds of Joy (1972), Andy Williams (1972), Amazing Rhythm Aces (1975), Willie Nelson (1976), etc.

Helen Keller's quote was so beautiful, there's something else that should be valued other than what the eyes can see. Another beautiful presentation Anastasia, as we've come to expect and are never disappointed. The opening quote from Helen Keller says something nice about you. I can hardly imagine being both blind and deaf, yet being enabled to communicate with my fellows thru perseverance, and the great invention of Braille. She inspired me to become a Certified Braille Transcriber thru The Library of Congress (1997), in which our group of 5 won 'Best of the Best' Braille Transcription Product Award (2002) for the entire North American continent ... really! (And I can prove it; I have the documentation.) Well, at least you and I admire and respect the unsung heroine, Helen Keller. I'm in good company; Thank you.

This songs reaches back between the children & Grand children of my founding Mother here in USA. She was the daughter of Sgt. Of the Falconers of King Charles1'st known as Francis Latham. Whom married the son of the Master Plaster of England. After her husband died she brought her 4 children to Rhode Island in1640's with Roger Williams.

Little lady, I love this performance. I discovered you following your commentary on the recent Jackie Evancho concert. I'm so glad that young women like you and Jackie are moving into the music business outside of the influence of the major record labels. I had stopped buying music back in the early 1980s because of the way the industry was forcing women performers to sell their music with sex. I didn't buy any music from that time until Jackie Evancho came along with music that touched my heart. And I discovered she was part of an online trend. An appropriate traditional musical instrument to accompany Anastasia Lee Johnson might be the hammer dulcimer. Has anyone besides Kathleen Johnson ever tried to sing with a dulcimer? Petrov Skazkiv introduced this instrument to the audience of the 2016 Ukraine's Got Talent and received standing ovations. Anastasia Lee and Tataina Marie might want to try this song as a duet with harmony like Katherine Jenkins and Faryl Smith did on the RUclips video entitled Katherine Jenkins, Faryl Smth "Amazing Grace,"Quello Che Faro Par Te". This is still one of my favorite Anastasia Lee songs along with Skyfall, Besame Mucho and the Irish Lullabye". I was wandering if Anastasia Lee, with her big contralto voice might ever consider walking away from the microphones at an outdoor performance the way Anna Netrebko did when she sang Quando m'en vo from La Boheme in Berlin in 2006? I thought it was a really gutsy outdoor encore move. The problem is that sopranos have such an advantage when they do that with an orchestra. Anastasia Lee's voice would have to be firing on all cylinders on the perfect song to try that.

I'm best friends with Del's best friend, the man I affectionately call "Grandpa Hug" - a surrogate Grandfather I suppose you would say. My Grandma Leona (his wife) loved show biz. The most unusual rendition of this song on RUclips is from Japan. It involves 273 people playing Theremins which were invented in the 1920's. The title of the RUclips video is Matryomin ensemble sets the world record for the largest Theremin ensemble. Emily Bear has started something similar with her 25 piano concerts in Arizona that are also on RUclips. Musicians have always loved an excuse to network and play music together.

Beautiful Anastasia! You really are a contralto, aren't you with that wonderful dark tone and great chest notes? I see a few singers saying they're mezzo when their voices are clearly not; the specific heavier, rounded tone that mezzos and even more so contraltos possess, is undeniable when you hear it. You've got a great upper range for such a heavy voice and for one so young. Your chest voice reminds me of Contralto legend Kathleen Ferrier but you also have lovely, clear head notes. You also sing very expressively. It will be fascinating to see how your voice develops as you are very young and at the start of your career. You seem like a lovely girl too with your support of St Jude's etc. Good luck, Anastasia, for what I'm sure will be a successful singing career. 😀
