Thank you for your effort to share this project. The outcome is beautiful! I have a very similar mirror I want to paint and distress and this was REALLY helpful!
I'm all about refinishing mirrors and picture frames to bring them up to date. I usually just spray paint them. However, I've wanted to use chalk paint for some smaller furniture projects. Your mirror looks great! Thanks for sharing. :)
+MissCrystal My hubby actually asked me why I didn't just spray paint lol! I just wanted a more shabby look. Shabby but still put together lol. He was so lost on that.
Well done!!! Wow, what a difference a little paint can make. I was obsessed with chalk paint for a while. Painted at least four pieces of furniture. Such an easy process, with such a big payoff.
+natalie075 Chalk paint is so easy :) Love it! If I really get into doing bigger more expensive pieces I may totally go the Annie Sloan route. Did you use Annie Sloan or something else of your pieces?
I absolutely LOVE the mirror AND the wreath! Glad you brought it to your new home! It's absolutely beautiful! I hope it hangs in a place of love in your home forever and ever! It's the best DIY in the history of DIY'S! 😘 🤣🤣 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I have s mirror I just inherited from my mom that I bought for her in 1982 and it was an antique then and I wanted to do something with it and it us about 4 and a half ft tall ,hope I do as well as you did!
It turned out perfectly! Really nice job :) it's such a good feeling of accomplishment when you can transform something on your own isn't it !? I have a table I need to do. I can't wait to tackle that and give some new life to the room. Tfs!
I love it!! I've never used chalk paint before, but after watching you do this and seeing how beautiful it came out....I'm heading out tomorrow to get some chalk paint. Lol. I have a few items that I would love to do this to....Thanks for sharing this Melanie. 😊
Chalk paint should adhere to most things. I have never personally tried it on metal but it should take. Might be worth sanding the surface just a bit first.
Chalk paint adheres to pretty much anything so you should be good to go with resin. If you are looking for a layered aged look, just apply multiple layers (maybe darker underneath) and then lightly sand to expose the layers.
What are the benefits or differences in chalk paint vs acrylic paint. What did the wax paint do? Seal & protect or is it for visual effect? I painted a mirror similar to yours with acrylic paint but i did have some bleed through. Wondering if chalk paint would have prevented that.
Chalk paint is thicker and provides easier coverage. It's also a different look overall. More rustic and worn look. It's not supposed to necessarily look perfect.
Ok I see this is from a few years ago so I hope you get to see my question and comments! 1st off the frame looks amazing! Nice work👍 my question is why chalk paint? I just bought a bunch of thrift store textured frames to make a frame display on one if my large walls, so I am trying to find as much good info as I can. To find what people have used and why... another ? If you happen to have any insight about any frames that are not wood..can any of the installations you used here be used on a different material? Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask! Sorry I wrote so much! 😁😊 Thank you!!
What’s the difference between clear chalk paint wax and white chalk paint wax? I’ve never used chalk paint before and I am planning on redoing one of my gold mirrors a light pink color. I’m not sure which wax would work better or what the difference would be?
Hannah Sweitzer clear wax is exactly that, it will go on clear and leave a matte finish, it will be a little darker but that's normal..white wax will add a light white color to the details of the piece you're painting, but both do the same job. It basically just seals the paint
Initially I thought it would be a mistake painting the gold frame, but it turned out really well. The only thing I would do differently, would be to do a little more distressing, let a little more gold through. Overall, a very good job.
Melanie, this looks fantastic! Something I would like to try on a few of my mirrors...but just curious about the cost vs. buying new mirrors or frames. May I ask how much the paint, wax and tools were from michaels? I have prices out Annie Sloan and that is a little pricey. Thx so much! Jamie
+Ilvmakeup I linked all the stuff that I used in the description box. The large container of chalk paint is only $12.99 and I will be able to do a ton of pieces with it. It's totally affordable :)
It turned out great! The white really helps it pop against the dark wall. :) I was reading about different chalk paint, and Valspar has a chalk paint that's supposedly comparable to the Annie Sloan (if not better) at a fraction of the cost. And you can have any color you want mixed. It piqued my interest for a dresser I want to paint. :)
+Stacey W I did! I showed them on snapchat but I will also show how everything turned out in my friday favorites this week :) I really LOVE that chalk paint! Better than the Art Deco I tried :)
Thank you for your effort to share this project. The outcome is beautiful!

Thank you for watching!
Love how it came out. I agree about taking down the wreath.
Thanks for this tutorial! I have a huge mirror with a gold frame that I want to update and this is going to work for me!

The mirror looks great and much simpler than I would have thought, I will have to give this a try on a few pieces I have around the house! ♥
+MissTLCmn SUPER easy! I did the frames in less than 3 hours start to finish :) They look great together now!

+MrKongsMom Annie Sloan all the way, amazing products 😄
I agree , on the wreath The transformation looks great !
Going to the store right now. I have my mom's beautiful picture on a gold frame that is ready for an update! Thanks!

+Michelle aka constantconnie Super great feeling :) I love that I didn't have to replace the mirror. I also love that it was a super cheap project ;)
It’s so crazy that I came on here to figure out how to paint a mirror and it’s the exact same mirror!
Please remove the gold Christmas decor from the mirror. Mirror is looking beautiful
Fatima rehman 👏👏👏👏👏👏thank u yes. Lol
Great video, thanks. I ordered the brush from your link, that's exactly what I need.
Glad I could help!
Looks great & you gave me courage to try this as well!!
It looks great. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you sooo much. Great video. Lovely result.
Glad it was helpful!
I hope that you took the wreath off and it would not be a bad idea to paint the photo frames white also! Good job.
I did not take the wreath off... because I liked it😁
thanks for a great vidio. with a little hard work it looks awsome..
Great video!! Love DIYs! Keep 'em coming!!

Beautiful job! I love it!
+Gidget13mwa Thanks!
Gorgeous! Thanks for the tutorial.
Will this work on a metal frame or just wood? Thanks!
Chalk paint should adhere to most things. I have never personally tried it on metal but it should take. Might be worth sanding the surface just a bit first.
So I’ve read through the comments trying to not be redundant but here I go anyway. Would this work on a resin (plastic type) frame as well?
Chalk paint adheres to pretty much anything so you should be good to go with resin. If you are looking for a layered aged look, just apply multiple layers (maybe darker underneath) and then lightly sand to expose the layers.
Looks great. I have a few items that needs to be updated. Where do we buy chalk paint? Thank you!
You can find it most places now, Home Depot, Lowe's, Michaels.
MrKongsMom thank you ☺️
That frame looked really expensive before painting it. It looks good both ways and always liked the chalked paint look.
Can this same process be used not only on wood frames/mirrors etc?? I have some tables that have iron legs, would it work too? Thanks
Im sure it could. Chalk paint pretty much sticks to everything.
@@MrKongsMom Great!! Thanks🤗
Great job!!😊 Mirror looks great!!👏🏼😁
Thanks for sharing!!😀
Lose the wreath!!👀
I got my chalk products from Michaels, I have one question do I need to use polyurethane? I will be using the mirror in my bathroom.
Thank you!
I personally did not but I would if I was putting into a high humidity environment.
@@MrKongsMom thank you so much! I love your helper (daughter) so sweet!

How much chalk paint and wax was needed for a mirror of that size?
Do you have to use a wax?
If the chalk paint you are using recommends it, I would. It will seal the paint and help with the wear.
I’d keep the wood frames and find a way to darken the wreath to darker brown- maybe with stain or spray paint
Nice,nice job
Great work!

Lovely job!!....what color is the paint on your walls?🤗
I think it was valspar caramelized onion? We don't live in this house anymore.
Ah yes your right ...it’s really lovely and you did a great job!......I have to try something like this now we are in lockdown 🙈🙈😷

Is there a clear wax for color chalk paint
Yes.
I found this very helpful! I’m going to try this to a vanity mirror today! Is the wax necessary since you just wipes it away?
It is necessary to seal the chalk paint.
I see this was several years ago wondering how it's held up all these years. Looking for something long lasting.... Looks great!!
It looks great still. Actually made the move to our new house and is now hanging in a hallway.
Your little one is a born boss lady!
What’s with the bulky wreath though ? The mirror is so beautiful and the wreath takes away from it !
Caroline lee 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
Just for the heck of it, I would brush over the paint after drying just to spread out those little wet pools....
I love it!

nothing is like Annie sloan. so called chalk paints have polymer in them. won't stick without priming.
