Interesting way to handle crashed cars. I don't believe I've ever seen it done like that before. What are the main reasons and advantages to doing like that as opposed to just having all cars stop where they are?
Greg Gaub we like to race with no stopping because we want to emulate real racing. In real racing if you crash you might lose your position or someone might gain ground on you. A better way to emulate real racing is having Marshalls but if you don’t have enough people this is a alternative. The other reason is because when you pause the track a car can cross the finish line and lap won’t count. If you don’t pay attention y’all never know. So this way if everyone goes in the pit before you pause the track you know everyone’s lap was counted. And the final reason is the program we use simulates damage and makes the car that crash go in to the pit to get repair. This way just adds a different and fun dynamic.

The only problem I saw was that almost every call to go into the pit was followed immediately by some cars, while others were able to complete an additional lap because they were either too far around, or didn't realize they needed to corral to the pit lane until they were already going around again. This, of course, would be advantageous to them. I'm not saying they did it on purpose, but it pretty much negates your main reason for doing it. I dislike full stop for crashes as well, if only because it often extends what would be a 10 minute race to 30 or more. Like any slot racer, I do enjoy a race that goes from start to finish without a lot of pauses. But, we also like to try new things from time to time. I'll mention this to the guys at our next race and see what they think. :) Coasting across the line during a pause is common. The solution is to have a minimum lap time, or break out, such that if you're not sure your lap was counted, you put the car behind the line. I think the track requires a few more change overs. By the way pitting the cars when an accident occurs leads to fair racing.
