    Driving in New York City has its challenges, but if you've driving in other big cities, you can drive here. Be sure to obey sign, signals and road markings. Know that pickup truck drivers are--on average--going to be more aggressive. And that you shouldn't drive into an intersection with a red light to avoid a 'T' bone crash. When drive under the elevated train, know that the posts are marked for the roads that intersect with the main road under the "EL".

    I'm from New Jersey, and the NYC instructor is right about NJ drivers going really fast on the highway. The highways I typically drive on have a 55MPH speed limit, but if you're not going ~75MPH, even in the slow lane, you'll get honked at...so you're forced to also blow the speed limit to keep with the flow of traffic - it was an adjustment I had to make. What I've noticed is commercial drivers (truck drivers, bus drivers, etc) always follow the speed limit, and I suppose they have to because of severe penalties, but almost everyone else pretty much does whatever.
    Here are the things that tick me off the most about driving in NJ/NY:
    1) Tailgating, this is dangerous on so many levels. If the person in front hits the brakes, the tailgater will cause an accident. I don't understand why tailgaters don't change lanes instead of taking a major risk like this.
    2) Changing lanes/turning without signaling. This is so common here, especially on the highway, that I keep an extra distance behind vehicles because I expect an unexpected lane change.
    3) People not driving within the lines. The lines exist for a reason, and when you drive outside of them, especially on the highway, you can cause an accident. It's also frustrating because now I can't pass a car outside the lines as I don't want to risk getting into an accident myself.
    In most of your videos you mention how driving is a social activity, and I try to keep that mindset on the road. I'm certainly not the best driver, but I don't really have road rage, and don't get upset if people cut me off, jump the line, etc. It's not worth getting emotional and angry just to end up in an accident that can lead to paralysis or death.
    And tbh, if the people driving in NJ/NY were these truly amazing drivers, they'd be making money in NASCAR or Formula-1 instead of clowning on the road.

    So from what I’ve was told you can still keep going 1 feet away or very close or pass the white line to keep going. but if your far away like 2 feet then you have to stop. they told me to just keep going or you’ll end up blocking the people from crossing the streets. It does make sense because at the exam they’ll take alot of points. If you pause at 6:11 that’s like 3 feet I think and a yellow light is a perfect example to slow and stop. So Rick I don’t know if my instructor is right or not but it does make sense about the examiner might not like when stop suddenly at yellow light in the middle of a crosswalk.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  2 года назад

      It's better to stop at a red light over the cross-walk and have pedestrians go around you, then it is to proceed into the intersection and risk a crash. That light was "dead red" and if you proceed into the intersection in those circumstances, you will fail the driver's test. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick

    Yes New Jersey drivers drive fast on the highways… but we drive very slow in the city 🤣 it’s vice versa for New Yorkers and Philly drivers where they drive crazy fast in the city

    I actually find pick up drivers more courteous than small cars like Honda Civics (Virginia).
