I’m going for my second road test tomorrow morning. I’m happy I found this video because I’m definitely sure the instructor screwed me over. I should of gotten 5 points for only checking my mirrors instead she gave me a 10 for not observing at all which is nuts I wouldn’t do that. I did everything else great she said the only thing I did was not check my blind spots. I feel like she could of passed me and told me to keep practicing to fluctuate between mirrors and shoulders checks. Not fair but hopefully tomorrow morning I pass🤞🏼I just wish I get someone who’s a bit chill and not have a strong character. This lady didn’t even crack a smile or say “hello, how are you?” Nothing! I don’t get that we’re already nervous enough why stress someone furthermore by not being nice. I get it they are there to make sure we are capable of being safe drivers not to be super chill or nice but ya’ll know what I’m trying to comment right?😌Like we’re already nervous why add to it by having a funky attitude.

Same thing happened to me! I don’t get why some of the people are so uptight, they make something that’s already stressful even worse than it has to be. Right as my instructor got in the car she was already mad because my phone was in the consone and not in the back seat.
I feel the check list is petty. Too many things to fail you for.

I came across your page and watched all of your videos yesterday: I took my test today and passed. These videos are great reminders of what we need to be aware of.
I had 5 classes with her and she told me i didnt know how to drive and that i wasnt ready for my test ( because she wanted me to pay more money for more classes) & guess what i passed! i do feel like it was not even her who helped me pass, it was the guy that came to pick me up from my house to take me to the road test sight. He was so helpfull! I had an hour to practice b4 the test and he showed me everything she didnt. Mind you my friend that deffinetly did not know how to drive she took classes also with laura & Laura told my friend " she drove good", when i seen how she drives and she didnt know how to drive at all and guess what my friend failed her test. Laura is that type of lady who does not care about you passing shes just in it for the money.

@@Pocahontas689 Hey sorry for the late reply, I took my road test in the bronx my driving instructor took me to the test site where a DMV instructor wud b the one testing you. The test site is by the bruckner near story ave I believe I'm not to sure. But I mainly got tested on left turns, broken uturn, parallel parking n ur control of the car. But for the record I'd tapped the sidewalk on my parking but corrected my parking n still pass. So b confident n u shud b ok.

I was suppose to take my road test in Yonkers but my driving school selected me at New Rochelle instead so I took it over there then past it on the first try

Fails to stop near center of the intersection when waiting to make a left turn could also apply to uncontrolled intersections or ones that dont have any signs/traffic signals. If a vehicle or traffic is close enough on the opposite side then you must yield to it/before before making your left turn.
Unable to park aquedately observe/use caution could also apply to not checking your mirrors. Correct me if i am wrong.
I was wrong. Unable to park adequately points does not refer to not checking mirrors. That does refer to hitting anything during parallal parking and is not limited to hitting the curb. However, You do get points for not checking your mirror while parallel parking as well. its 10 points.
So I'm taking my test tomorrow and I watched all your videos, they are so helpful and informative so I hope I pass.

My road test is this Thursday march 9, 2023 at 9 am in Waianae
You must stop 1/4 of a way into the intersection, close to the yellow center lines, with your wheels straight & not angled left! You want to make arc shaped turns, so do not go half way into the intersection unless it's an SUV you are driving; You keep your wheels straight just in case if you are rear-ended by a large vehicle, you will go straight & not into on coming traffic! Of course, everyday we observe drivers angling to make that left turn - but it's wrong!

Omg thanks a bunch, I failed yesterday, everything was good so far but I failed because they told me my judgment is poor, my one thing I can’t see on the sheet that is, inattentive to traffic 😟 what is it though?
Laura. I need advice. I am considering taking my road test in seaview brooklyn but i have just have an issue with making that first left turn. Nothing else really. Could you provide tips as you are faimilar with road test site and the expectations over there. Do you have to look out for traffic over there on the first left turn just as you do with a regular stop sign?
Hi Adam, unfortunately I've never done road tests in Brooklyn or Staten Island, so I can't tell you any specifics about that sites. I can really only help you with Queens and Long Island.

Hi Laura I am getting mixed signals on something and I don’t want it to be the reason I fail a road test. I was wondering if a car is stopped getting ready to parallel park can I go around it into the other lane since it’s stopped or does that fall into improper lane of traffic. Some people tell me to go a round a car that is stopped and getting ready to parallel park while other people tell me to wait behind the car and leave distance for them to park. In a small narrow street where there are only two lanes and no yellow marking would I just wait for them to park.
If you get your Driver's License and New York do you have to get a new one if you move to another state? ❤️
Hi Laura ! So do you have to pause in the middle of the intersection while making the left turn even if there are no cars coming from the opposite direction?? Or is it safe to just keep going? is the pause absolutely necessary?

If you dont observe or dont observe properly before pulling it out assuming you arent checking your blind spot as well . . .thats 2 mistakes. 10 points for failing to check your blind spot and 5 points for failing to observe.
If you turn right or left while ignoring stop sign or traffic signal. Thats 2 or more mistakes.
Poor judgement approaching the intersection - fails to observe.
Inattentive to sign or signal.
If it results in a close call or almost cause an accident then its an immediate failure.
I have heard that if you get into an accident on the road test that you fail regardless of whose at fault.
Hello, I failed my driving test today and the report said that I have poor judgement in traffic and I failed to anticipate potential road hazards. Do you know what I might have done to get thos demerit points? I think the test went smoothly and I didn't expect to fail.

You don't need a D license for a motorcycle license. You will have to take the 5 hour class if you haven't taken it already.
When I took road test I got ten points taken off for improper lane of traffic but I felt I was always in my lane. But one of the streets was tight in Newrochelle. I mean the street where they make you parallel park is very tight compared to the Bronx or Queens. Be careful for those small streets. Also when I parallel parked in my test I was given a tight spot so beware of that. I think with improper lane of traffic happened if it did was because of my three point turn.
The guy that tested me failed me immediately because of a few seconds of improper lane of traffic. He made sure I failed by taking off points like poor judgment in traffic, fails to anticipate potential hazards, fails to keep right, just to make sure I fail. New Rochelle is becoming difficult to pass
Are there specific road test sites in Queens? Or is it just random?
Yes, they have specific areas where they just do the road tests. You can look on the DMV's website to find out the locations.
I have my road test in a couple hours. Not in NYC, but in NY. I’m really nervous. I took drivers ed and was pretty good, but I put off my test for three years and I haven’t gotten much practice, so I really feel like I’m gonna fail. I’m just scared

Laura The Driving Coach I just got home. Apparently I never got the right paper from drivers ed, so it was a total waste of time to even go today, since I wasn’t able to take it. The guy was an asshole about it and I’m even more scared to take it now.
Will you fail or get points added for not doing the “9 and 3” method when turning left or right?
I havent taken my test yet but when I went to my 5 hour, he told me that If you let it slip while turning instead of hand over hand its considered not having control over the car
@@bootygang666f6 I took my road test last Friday and passed.! I was told the same thing. My instructor said that points will be given if you do not keep hands on the wheel at all times. So definitely make sure you don’t let it slide without your hands on the wheel. Thank you for the reply. Good luck!

Hi. I just passed my road test but on the receipt it says turning and intersections and under it says Turning right: 5 turns short. Does that mean all my right turns were short and I almost failed since 5 short equals to 30 points???
Hi Dan, congratulations on passing your road test! To answer your question, they can only give you the point one time for making a short right no matter how many times you turned short. So you only got 5 points, was there anything else on the receipt?

The most important two things I like to know what does ( poor steering control : TURNING and MANEUVERS ) mean? Also I wanna what ( Delayed braking/ Abrupt braking) means?!
Delayed or abrupt breaking means you were either braking too hard or you weren't breaking enough. The poor steering control means you were having trouble steering on your turns or for the parallel park or 3 point turn.
Thanks for that one! I believe i got those points due to me not parking and U-turns correctly! I keep on pressing the break while i was parking, i was moving my hands in a 360 motion on the wheel while either i was parking or doing a u-turn!

coach laura. I have question about making turns on the road test. What if you fail to accelerate out of a right or left. Do you get points for that?, if so, then what does that fall under in the Road test evaluation?. Like when i am straightening should i lightly hit the gas right before i straighten out or right after?.

Hi Adam, it all depends on the specific turn and how fast you recover the wheel. Yes, you want to accelerate out of a turn and usually you start to do so as your straightening up. It all depends on what your speed it going into the turn. I would have to see you drive to really help you more with that. Why don't you book a lesson with me if you can get to Queens.

The only answer I can give you is that if you're talking your turn too slow, then they can penalize you.
You can just take a lesson on passing the road test then. I teach many people who have been driving a long time, but they just need help with the test. In any event, good luck!

Hi. Laura. I am considering taking a driver lesson or so with you. But do you know anywhere quiet we could do it?. Also you could show me to use the other gears such as windshield wipers or car lights. Very important never know what what could happen during the road test such as rain or snow.

On the road test, if they make you do a broken u-turn near the end of the test lets say. Will anything after it the broken u turn or 3 point turn count?. Will anything after that count?.

I have a question. What about yellow warning signs. How do we react to them on the road test?. Do we treat them as yield signs?. Just worried i will incur points for slowing down upon approaching or passing any of these types of signs.
Hi, thanks for your comment. What kind of warning signs are you talking about? A warning sign about a stop sign ahead?
@@LauraTheDrivingCoach . . . Not the signs that indicate that there is a stop sign ahead. Hint: Its only black and yellow, no other color and no stop sign shape. It is or maybe is a pedestrian sign. One of those signs shows kids on a seesaw but its only and mainly in black/yellow. Its in the nyc drivers manuel. Its yellow and black.
@@LauraTheDrivingCoach . . They can be pedestrian or other signs. I am well aware about the one with stop sign ahead and know how to react to it. Its the others that i worry will easily throw me off particularly those pedesterian ones.
Those are just telling you to be careful for pedestrians or children. If you don't see any sign that lowers the speed limit, then you don't have to slow down for them. If you have a pedestrian crossing then, yes slow down. But you don't have to slow down just for the signs. I hope that answers your question.

You have simplified it. I have read about yellow warning signs but i was in doubt as to how to react to them. The pedesterian or children ones at least. I thought you had to treat it as a yield sign.
