The most important defensive driving strategy that you can implement is to maintain the space in front of your vehicle. Always have that three to four second following distance. And never be closer to any other road user or fixed object than one vehicle length. On left turns, stay out of the intersection. Wait at the edge of the intersection and when the gap presents itself, then move into the intersection and make your turn. Yes, you can pass on a double solid line if there are obstacles and other vehicles blocking your path. Road markings will indicate if you can move into a bicycle lane to make a right turn. And speed bumps should be gone over at 10mph.
Good luck on your road test.

Hey Rick been a minute , got my license back in July - drove for a while but took a break - just going through your videos to keep on my toes and refresh myself on my skills
There needs to be more speed bumps in cities, that way drivers will go slower and not crash as often. The faster drivers go in cities, the more likely they are to crash or hit a pedestrian.
Speed bumps have a nasty side effect. And no, it's not that you could do damage to your vehicle if you hit it too fast. It's that these create A LOT of urban noise pollution. Braking, bumping and accelerating vehicles are noisy. Councils get a lot of complaints from residents about traffic noise. Speed bumps are like STOP signs - they work, but there's a negative impact too. All the best, Cheers Rick
