- To sum up the video, I’m a fan of most of the concepts at this guitar uses but I definitely think it should’ve been an SC body style. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

Would you guys buy a Martin GPCE Inception and what kind of music would you play on it?
Air guitar innit
Nope
This guitar is a marketing disaster. Martin, itself, markets the guitar as a step forward because it uses more abundant, locally-sourced tonewoods. Which is great. I'm all for that. However, basic economics tells us that if something is more abundant and available (as opposed to Mahogany and Rosewood) then it costs less. However, this guitar costs over a thousand dollars MORE than a D28 or D18. As well, the top is European Spruce, which here again Martin touts in its own promos as being more readily available than Sitka. Again, great. But shouldn't that mean it's cheaper to produce? And finally, it's a satin finish, which again, is fine. But satin finishes are generally a few hundred dollars cheaper than their full gloss counterparts within the Martin catalog. Here, however, Martin seems to be upcharging its customers for a guitar which it itself is touting is CHEAPER to produce. This makes no sense whatsoever. Like you, I'm passing on this one and waiting for the SC 28, which ought to be here within the next couple of months. Can't wait for that.
This guitar should have been a MIM part of the Road series, costing around $1,500. At that price point I could see it finding a spot in the Martin catalog and maybe even being a springboard to other, better guitars using these tonewoods and bracing. But making this guitar a $4000 guitar? It's the same as saying it's only here until the inventory is depleted and then it's gone forever.
Pairing maple, which is a pretty dry sounding wood in factory-built guitars, with something like European spruce, which is a bit stiffer than Sitka, with those beefy braces, and a 3-piece back which is stiffer than a 2-piece back, and the relative light weight bridge and fretboard wood, is a recipe for thin sound. There are many domestic hardwoods that are far denser that could be used for teh fretboard and bridge, even composite materials. Western red cedar top and claro or black walnut back and sides make for a great sounding guitar with a mix of warmth and bite - a recipe quite a few boutique makers such as Lowden use. In fact you can buy one for not much more than this guitar, and the quality, tone, and looks are far better.
Not excited about it either. Thanks for the post !🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Agree with some others here. This should be a MIM $500 road series guitar.🎸🎸🎸 Also, don't like cutaway on acoustic guitars.....but that's just me. If no one buys it, they'll stop making them and the one's out there (unless the person really likes this) will be on Reverb.
Being a custom builder, I feel this is an example of “solving a problem that doesn’t exist”. I love Martin Dreads and OM’s, but they are trying to enter an arena already saturated by the boutique industry. There are numerous builders out there creating exactly what they’re selling AND, shocker, for less than $5000. Support your local Luthier and ask them to craft something to give your conscious a break, and save money too.
That’s a great point. What’s your business called I’ll check it out!
I agree with you. Specially on the high price and this being too foreign for Martin fans. We all have to try it for ourselves, to have the most precise opinion. But if it’s similar to Taylor’s 614CE, then it should be priced below that. I do love maple guitars.
Been playing GPC for 12 years very balanced and comfortable 🥳🥳🥳🥳
I am happy you have had a good experience with your GPC, I never really connected with the one I had.
Gibson offers a Walnut/Pine top guitar for way, way less...and, while I'm not fond of G series guitars, they dont sound any worse than the Inception demos I've heard.
The AG series retailed 2399 with nitro finish, rosewood and a burst and my particular example has such nice medullary rays its almost a shame they did it. Martin is admitting their anniversary faux Mahogany top is a 3d print on a blem grade top and assume their dark finish fades are hiding similar.
I wouldnt mind the three piece back, braces, or other marketing ploys if the price were comparable. Sure the Martin has some Maple on it...but Maple has always been fairly sustainable.
Why didn't they come out with something like nice 00 size guitars. They discontinued all the nice ones they had ! This was a dumb idea (IMO) If I spend 4K..... I'll go Gibson.🎸🎸🎸🎸 Plus......it should not be a cut-a-way !
This is the Edsel of guitars. The new CEO is definitely making his mark. Cheap wood, cheap finish, cheap 3 piece back, cheap overall build. This thing looks like an X series and it’s built like one. It should be made in the Mexico factory and sell for $300. This is a money grab. Like crazy fishing lures and pros. The Martin sponsored channels will push it and the loyalist will fall for it. Their own video wasn’t even convincing. They would do better to focus on consistency instead of this.
Yeah I watched there video and wasn’t convinced that this was actually the way they should have gone. Hopefully their next couple of releases make a little more sense.
Ive noticed any vid i have seen has no sound samples, or is it too early no one actually has it to play? IDK it would be nice to hear it i guess. (besides the Martin demo vid)
I agree. I don’t have the money to buy one right now but I’m sure some demos will come out in the next few weeks.
Music Zoo has a sound sample.
I’ll have to check that out!
Disappointed with Martin, I own a great martin and very happy with the sound and it’s a work horse. But the price of this new one for not much extra, seems martin is only interested in acquiring the golden dollars, and not what the long time martin players have and would ask for. Wow 😢 martin you have lost me as a customer 4k really not on.
maple walnut combined is look nice guitar
Yeah it does look pretty sharp!
Why make a cutaway guitar and then put the strap button on the side of the neck? I'll never understand that.
Pass on this guitar for me.
I’d rather buy an OM, O Series or D series guitar than this acoustic. This guitar they made seems way overpriced for what it offers.
You can get close to a modern deluxe for that price.
Doesn NOT sound like a MARTIN ☹
You did a Review of a Guitar you don't actually play in the review? You tell us what you "think" but you have never had one in your hands? This is a joke right?
Not a review, a reaction. Big difference.
@@hoffguitars479 OK well dude I actually went to the Guitar Center and played it just on Saturday. The idiots had the worst strings on a go google the strings that go on it. That’s the problem with it. They should put phosphorus bronze on it. I told him inside the Guitar Center throw some phosphor bronze on it, some MARTIN crappy new strings with no bottom come on it. The problem is the strings, my brother you didn’t even have the guitar in your hand. The problem is they put junk strings on them. Now that’s a review.
$4K ! ! ! ????????????????? NO👎👎👎👎👎👎
Most likely would NOT buy this guitar.👎
