After trying about 20 different pillows for my head plus a pillow for between my knees and for my back, the one that finally worked for me was called a "pregnancy" pillow. It is an inverted U shaped body pillow that works just like they were talking about but instead of having two or three pillows in is an all in one. I toss and turn a lot during the night which meant having to grab 3 pillows and realign them each time I turned over. With the "pregnancy" support pillow now all I have to do is just turn over, get settled in and back to sleep. They have a large number of them on Amazon where I got mine is different shapes, lengths, covers, etc.

This came at the best time! I have been suffering some blinding neck and shoulder pain and horrible headaches, today is 21/2 weeks and I think I've found what's happening when the doctors have kept saying it's just a migraine and giving me the usual advice of rest, but I've been sleeping with my hand under my neck which I believe has been making it worse! You guys are great 👍🏼

You both do not know how much sleep you just saved me tonight. My nerve has been pinched for going on 3 weeks. Didnt think anything about it at first, until it didn't get better it actually got way worse. ( I'm used to sciatica flare ups and while that also sucks, I'm going on 4 days with 4 hours of sleep.... I'm on business travel so the earliest I can get into my doctor's office was in 2 days. So I go through a bit of RUclips "how to" videos until I saw yours and tried it and felt some small amount of relief. I was crying in hysterics last night because no one really took me seriously how insanely painful this is, so thank you again. My upper right torso doesn't have to feel like its being grinded into a lawn mower blade. You saved me.

Sara Withrow tell me about it. I was in the ER 4 times in 4 days and they were more concerned with thinking I was just trying to get pain meds. Even my primary care doctor refused to give me anything for pain (that’s the VA for ya) . I finally got to see the Neurosurgery doctor on day 9 and he rushed me into surgery the next morning.

    • @LilyBlessed24

Sara Withrow omg you sound exactly like me the last 4 days now. I meet trying to explain to my family how horrible this pain is. I’ve suffered w chronic pain since 2001, so I know pain. But this is insane. All I can do it cry. I can’t sit, stand, lay, walk, every single movement hurts. I’m just angry now. Angry that it hasn’t let up at all and nothing helps even a little bit. I’m exhausted, and may end up calling 911 tonight. 😔😖😣

Lily Blessed did you get an MRI? The pain won’t stop until you get the disc to stop pinching the nerve. The doc who did my surgery said if the disc is ruptured or you are experiencing any muscle weakness or numbness or tingling in your arm, hand or fingers then surgery is the only option. The first thing you need is an MRI so they can see what’s going on. I have insurance so I don’t have to worry about it, but they told me this surgery cost over 60k. The good thing is that immediately after you wake up after surgery the nerve pain is gone, but you will have to deal with post surgery pain for a few day. No where near as bad as the nerve pain though.

Liked and SUBSCRIBED. I don't know how else to thank you guys. I've been dealing with immense neck pain and I knew it was because of my awkward sleep positions. But it wasn't until your video and your explanations/demonstrations that I understood the the real reasons behind it. I appreciate the tips and enjoy the humor. Also want to mention that I'm 6'6" and, while my posture is relatively good, I still get a forward-curved upper back just by being too tall for everyday things. When using my computer (8 hours a day), I used to put a pillow behind my lower back, which felt nice. But thanks to Bob's weird towel trick, I learned that I should position the pillow higher because what I was doing actually indirectly made it worse. Thanks again to both of you guys for being so awesome!

That trick with the pillowcase really works!!! I have a small herniation at C4-C5 with some impingement that recently decided to act up and give me terrible pain in my neck and left shoulder blade. For four days I struggled to sleep because there was no comfortable position to lay in at all. I tried sleeping on the McKenzie cervical roll, doing the chin tucks, etc. No dice. I finally gave the pillowcase trick a go and WOW. I slept the entire night and when I woke up the pain was 80% gone!!! I used a pillowcase made of a soft jersey material and just tucked the end in on itself. It was comfy and stayed on the entire night 👍🏻. Thank you so much for that suggestion!! You saved my neck!! 😃

    • @pamelabaum1480
      @pamelabaum1480 2 года назад

@@SmokingwithBush I tucked the top corner (about 2” worth) of the end of the pillowcase into the part wrapped around my neck. Kind of like the way you would tuck a napkin into a shirt collar if that makes sense. I wish I could put up a pic to illustrate, it’s hard to describe. If that doesn’t work, you could (carefully!) try a safety pin or two to hold it closed instead. I hope this helps and you feel better soon! Neck/shoulder pain is miserable.

Retired woman living by coast in West Wales, U.K. Really helpful video. Been suffering from what I think is “pinched nerve” that started 12 weeks ago in neck, collarbone and shoulder and now in arm and hand. Excruciating pain during night time only, then moderated during day. Now flashing pain only in arm and hand, making hand weak and fingers unable to grip. At the moment am reluctant to visit doctor, due to Covid-19, but the fact that the pain in neck/collarbone area has gone, am thinking that eventually the pain in arm and hand will also disappear. As you suggested, am now using a pillow for arm support, which really helps, also a cushion for arm when sitting. Apart from all that, as Elton John says, “I’m Still Standing” and will continue to have a positive outlook that all will be better in time !

This week is the tipping point (vertigo, pain, extreme facial muscle pulling, arm numbing, scalp pain, eye not closing, my gosh...) I searched for help. I've also been sleeping wrong. I'm so grateful for you Bob & Brad. Thanks for your suggestions!

I feel dizzy sometimes and out of balance. If I stare and try to concentrate I feel like my eyes move really fast it’s scary. I also wake up with arm/ finger numbness and my thumb twitching. My doctor had me do an MRI/ CT scan but nothing came up. I’m just at my wits end with it.

Thanks fir putting up this video. Found out I have a pinched nerve in C5 & C6. It hurts but need to make some sleeping adjustments. My neck doesn’t hurt but hurts from shoulder blade to arm. Really sucks.

I tried sleeping on my shoulder blade after seeing this video. I woke in the morning with an anterior sternoclavicular dislocation and medial detachment of the scapula. I was a promising boxer, and this basically ruined my life. I’m depressed, in agony every night, I struggle to get more than 5 hours sleep, and I can’t do any upper body exercise anymore. I’ve tried physiotherapy, but my only hope now is surgery. I’m not saying this will happen to everyone who sleeps like this, and I don’t blame these guys for there suggestion, but please do be wary of trying this. Perhaps my mattress was too old and uncomfortable (I’ve since bought a new one). Anyway, wish me luck.

Aloha! Educational and entertaining. SO helpful at a time when I needed just this. Doing a bit of home cervical traction, gentle 5min with 10lb of water.. Sleeping has been the hardest part but I can't wait to try these. Thank you and Mahalo

When I wake up in the morning I feel more pain and stiffness in neck area, shoulder and shoulder blades. I realised dizzyness for a whole week after sleeping by side without having pillow or thin pillow that is the mistake I did. Thanks for this good guidance. 🙂

I meant to get back to you guys. Wanted to thank you. I wouldn't say it's all gone away but I had really bad neck pain. Figured out it was from sleeping and got a wedge and, well, have yet to find a neck pillow I tolerate. But use one of those partial donut things. I'd say 95% better. (BTW, for folks who find the wedge super hard--already had one and couldn't stand--this one is terrific, Cushy Form--on Amazon.

I have bought a pillow by medcline for shoulder relief. Do you feel like it's the correct option for these types of issues. It's the only way I can sleep currently.

This explains why my neck always hurts when I sleep on my back. My pillow is hard and too elevated. But because of the far distance between my shoulders to my head, it doesn't hurt when I sleep on my side. I always thought that it's just normal for your neck to hurt if you sleep on your back.

If the sculpted pillows aren't affordable, try this, as I've a similar problem, with neck & spinal problems.
Solved it, with a regular pillow folded in half, so it sits under the neck, keeping it in line. Works well, no matter which way I sleep.

I find a good solution as to how to keep the pillowcase in place rather than a safety pin or tape is to tie a bandanna around it. Just thought I'd share. Hope everyone here feels better. Neck pain sucks!

My problem is I can't control my head turning around . ..the procedure they are using is that I am lying in bed and have tie in my chain and move it upward for 15 minutes.

I used to sleep on my stomach, but thru surgeries I sleep on my back with a pillow next to me or I feel like I going to fall. I have bad lower back pain. Nothing seems to work. I end up on my back but I find myself with my feet off the bed. Twin bed and short because hard to turn.

I used to woke up with a lot of pain in my back. When I started to sleep with no pillows (or just one under the knees) and a hard mattress, I felt instant relief, day by day, and my bad posture started to change as well, after 2-3 nights.

It’s recommended to have a pillow cuz when you roll on your side in your sleep the neck won’t be straight. Depends on your mattress too sometimes.
