I stopped my neck pain by sleeping with a travel neck pillow. I got a smaller one that wasn't to bulky and snaps closed so that when I turn over it stays around my neck. I still sleep on a regular pillow with it wraped around my neck. I think it works well because it fills the void around my neck giving me great support. I had pain on one side of my neck from behind my ear down to my shoulder and at the base of my head. I would awake to neck pain and headaches almost daily. I told my aunt one day and she recommended the travel neck pillow and I am so thankful. My neck pain has been gone ever since.

I’ve completely modified my pillow. I bought a child’s pillow. Rolled it up. Put ties around the ends so it stays rolled nice and tight. Then added snaps at the corners and the center (me being ocd about it lol). Tuck it in a small pillow case. Turn it over so snaps are on the mattress side. Good to go. I struggled with my pillow for years until I figured this out. Tootsie roll for my neck 😂
I was hoping you did stomach sleeping, I’ve did that one for years and recently developed neck issues. I’m now doing back sleeping but it’s still not comfortable.
My many years of stomach sleeping have caused so many neck and limb numbness for me. My chiropractor said if causes severe nerve compression in the spine and I have definitely noticed this. I am now training myself to sleep on my back. Look up the fort method for back sleeping. It is really comfortable. You basically make a cross shape on your bed and use one pillow for head and neck, 2 pillows for arms and 1 pillow under the knees.
Thank you so much for this video. I've slept on my tummy virtually all my life until some two months ago when I woke up with a terrible neck pain and headache. My neck was stiff and I've been working on it since then. I've bought a contour pillow and I'm currently weaning myself off meds. How do I go forward since I have subsequently developed crepitus (neck cracks and pops) which though not painful in any way is quite concerning nevertheless?
Is it possible to train yourself to be a back sleeper? I'm a side sleeper and it's causing me problems, but I can't fall asleep on my back. I can lay down for a nearly an hour until it gets uncomfortable and never fall asleep. I have to roll to my side. I wish this wasn't the case.
Try the pillow fort method and also add a pillow on top of your stomach. 5 pillows total. I am a long time stomach/side sleeper and this has been the best way to train myself. It is basically a pillow fort shaped like a cross. One for the head and neck, then one for each arm to elevate the arms and then one under the knees. I add one on top of my stomach for added pressure because i love the pressure of sleeping on mg stomach.

7:17 interesting how you say to have your upper back slightly on the pillow. 1.⭕03:18

TY, exactly what I was looking for!
Do people really just sleep in one position all night? I rotate from my left side to my back and then on to my right side and back again. I probably go through this rotation 10 times per night. I'm doing this because I can't stay comfortable in any one position for long. I flop around like a landed fish. I suffer from numbness and tingling in the finger tips. When I finally do fall asleep this wakes me up again.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. My bad sleep has been affecting my ability to focus on work and even focus on what a person is saying. Even my gaming skills is taking a toll.
Could you please suggest sleeping position for reversal of cervical lordosis with spondiolysis of c4/c5/c6. Please please🙏🏻
Me too have spondylosis problem..
Do you experience vertigo while switching sleep positions?
@@starlite7785 yes! Do u
@@jandy4268 yes all the time 😭 even while switching neck positions otherwise. Do you get cervical vertigo only while sleeping? I get it when I look down on my phone then look up
Very useful information.. great work 👍
What is the neck roll you're using at 3:45?
Great information will try tonight
I WAS USE ING DOUBLE PILLOW, HAD PAIN IN LEFT SHOULDER AND NECK. ON DOCTOR ADVICE I STARTED TO USE SINGLE MEMORY PILLOW, I FEEL MUCH BETTER, BUT STILL NOT 💯 % SATISFIED??? WILL TRY TO USE NECK SUPPORT, AS PAR YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS. STAY BLESSED 🙌 😇
How do you sleep? I sleep with one pillow just over my shoulders.
Let me know what other videos you want to see in the future.
I found a pillow that was perfect, after I realized my previous pillow was too thick and my chin was down. With my current pillow I sleep exactly how you describe it here, one pillow just over my shoulders. Basically mostly supporting the curve of my neck. It reduced headache and neck pain I used to get after I wake up from naps.
Pain relivers point about neck pain
What pillows?
7:17 interesting how you say to have your upper back slightly on the pillow. I'm a back sleeper, and everywhere I find people saying to not have your shoulders on the pillow to achieve the best posture. I do think that lower loft pillows would be better for me because of this because they don't crane my head out so much and strain my neck, but it has been a struggle for me to find one that's comfortable. Or maybe i should try a curved pillow
I just order the side sleeper pillow. It will arrive today.
Love your work kid 😎
Thank you it really works for me
What if I have pain in my upper back (Trapezius area) after sleeping? What causes that? I feel like I shrug my shoulders up when I sleep but I honestly have no idea why. I have a newish medium mattress and recently bought one of these neck pillows...
Any relief
I glad u teach us why and why not.
💤💤💤💤💤😴!
I’m stomach sleeper always has been. Was raised by my grandma and she would always say roll on your stomach so you can go to sleep and it always work work to this day. If I’m on my back I jump a lot or wake up easy. If I’m on my side feel like I’m overthinking a long time before I go to sleep. So I want to know what’s the positive + negatives to sleeping on my stomach and is there correct way or good billow adjusting for it? Thanks
All contour pillows are not firm enough for me to support my neck curvature so I use a rolled up towel as you described in your video.
Thank god I came across this video!! Thanks so much you have saved my life haha

Thanks for your helpful tips. My "bed" is a cot, and over time, it droops as if it were a hammock. Would that create a problem for my spine in the long run?
Forsure it will. Sleep on a firm flat bed. No slang
Thanks Dr Nick!
What about if you have mild sleep apnea with chronic nasal congestion? It’s terribly difficult to rest; and I have a contoured pillow.
The pillow you put in the link is that good for back sleeping also? And do you have a video about sleeping with pillows by your sides?
Thanks for this informative video
This is great! Can you recommend a neck brace for cervical stenosis?
WOW! Any suggestions for my situation? I had left shoulder surgery and now have an implant. I used sleep on my side on my left, so this surgery has affected my sleep, my neck and my back. HELP!!! Thank you!
