Hey Dixie, I've watch all of you updates on the PCT and went back and have watched most of your AT updates. I'm 62 years old and may never hike either one but I just wanted to let you know that you have motivated me and at least for today I got my butt off the couch and went walking for 2 miles. I figure it's a start and we'll see how long I keep doing it.
I grew up in North Woodstock/Lincoln. Worked at Lost River for 4 seasons. The white mountains really are beautiful place to grow up. I never had the opportunity (financially) to do many winter activities. So I got quite bored in the winter. But, I miss being able to walk out the door and be able to hop in a river or lake within minutes.
You have some great videos. I'm getting old (52) but really want to do the trail. I'm in Boston and only 3 hours from the White Mountains. That whole area is beautiful.. I'm more of a lakes and mountains person but check out Arcadia National Park in Maine. The most hiking I've done is from my car to a cabin 50 feet away in Maine. Going to get back in shape (was big into weights years ago) and shoot for doing the trail in 2018..
I did a trial run for my AT thruhike in the whites this past august and it rained like that on Franconia Ridge. I watched the clouds come swooping up the side of the mountain and then when I finally made it to Garfield camp site I had little red dots all over my face from the rain slapping me silly. I got maybe two minutes of the view before the storm set in and it was breathtaking! I hope you get to see it in better weather some day. Thanks for being an inspiration :)
Nice recap of the Whites. It was very thoughtful of you to capture the bad weather atop Mt. Jackson. Great job! I look forward to watching your remaining AT videos. - Steve from Central CT
Hi Dixie Love all your videos, I was getting my feet washed in Damascus in the medical center ran by the church when you were there. We never met but I recall seeing you there, It was the end of my thru hike due to a torn meniscus so after sitting out the rest of 2015 as I walked on crutches for months, I lived vicariously through your videos-Thanks so much for showing me what I missed, Loggman.
So I've watched your videos from time to time and didn't even think about that we might have crisscrossed paths on the AT. I SOBOed the northern 1042 miles of the AT in the fall of 2015. After watching one of your other videos talking about Mountain Goat who I stayed in a shelter with the night before I did the Mahoosuc. It kind of got me wondering. So I am pretty that nasty weather you went over Franconia Ridge in is the same nasty weather I hiked out of Lake of the Clouds in. So I either crossed paths with you some point the next day or missed you when you went to the Yellow Deli.
The more I watch these videos the more i realize we are basically the same person. If i ever did this i could more than likely be named "lil dixie" or something lol. These videos are making me excited to be moving to the mountains for university this year.
Since 2008 I've been saying that the toughest part of the AT was not Mahoosuc notch. It was coming down Mt. Moosilauke. And you do it at night in the rain. You go girl!
Have loved your videos and watching your journey - thanks so much for sharing - if I could ask, do you use or would recommend any sort of foot treatment for constantly moist situations like this (Hydropel, Bonnie's Balms, etc.)?? - Got a bad case of trench foot on the SC Foothills trail after book'n it 1.5mi through a full on thunder storm and the river that the trail became - had to cut the trip short after that
if you dont mind me asking, what is that paper that you show in the beginning of the video and what is if for? ps. i plan to hike all the long trials starting with the A.T in about a year
@@PatrickWagz Thanks. Three weeks delayed, then. Some thru hikers get further and further behind on posting their videos. You can always check their photo at Harpers Ferry if they show a close up. I've done that before.

Hope you are doing well, Sir. Are you still getting out there?

+Chris Daniel Haha, glad I could give you a laugh :)
One of the best quotes yet. "Forget about the miles; just enjoy the experience"

I love that you appreciate the wild creatures, large and small.
That hair on a biscuit statement really made my morning . You have a genuine down to earth attitude and I love your videos.

You are awesome.
Great video, I grew up there fishing and hunting. A lot has changed in over 50 years. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful mountains, beautiful views, thank you!
My sister rented out the zealand hut and got married at the waterfall next to it. The entire family hiked up to the hut, it was awesome!
That would be a nice place to get married!
Hanging in there like a " hair on a biscuit " !!!................. LOL !!! Now that's one that I've never heard !!!
Breathtaking views. Can't wait to follow your footsteps

Awwww! I wish we would have met. I'm so sorry about your injury. Is it better now?
I am really enjoying these later videos on your hike - I feel like they focus more on you and the trail. Thanks for sharing!
Totally agree that the later videos are better.

There's a Yellow Deli in NH ? What city ? I heard her mention it twice in this video but the only one I know about is in Rutland, Vermont.
Dude, i really like your vlog about the AT. Watching and listnening to it while playing video games.
love it... Doing my first weekend hike on my birthday thanks to you!!! November 5th😀😀😀😀
That actually isn't too bad of a day for the Whites :)
So far this is the only place where the wind has literally ripped clothes off me.
I really wish you could see the whites in October. The colors are "soooooo pretty"
The more I watch these videos the more i realize we are basically the same person. If i ever did this i could more than likely be named "lil dixie" or something lol. These videos are making me excited to be moving to the mountains for university this year.
Awesome! Maybe we are kindred spirits, haha.
i love hiking in NH, I'm only few hours away from the whites
Nice! :)

I can't waite to see your victory. God Bless :)
In retrospect, were the Whites the toughest part of the trail?
I enjoy all of your vids!!!

It's a page out of David "Awol" Miller's AT guidebook :)
Did you get any ticks or tick bites on your journey?
Hanging in there like a hair on a biscuit. LMAO
love the videos.
Good morning Dixie :)
How do you get around those deep muds?
What are you using to record? Great vidoes!
Jon Baatz her iPhone 6
when did you start the AT?
Not sure of the exact date (because most delay posting videos) but her first one of her start at Amicalola Falls is dated April 20, 2015.
@@djg5950 It shows the date on the picture she gets taken at the AT office in Harpers Ferry, Virginia...... I believe she started March 29th, 2015

Where's Rigga? She go home? Haven't seen her since before you had to go home.
Rigga finished her her hike before Dixie because of Dixie having to go home.
The way this woman says "pretty" is adorable af
I got caught on "Why - its". Being from NH and having the Whites at my back door I found it amusing to hear it pronounced that way.
How she says "Ramen" noodles is seriously the greatest thing ever!!!
bear season get orange
Any romance on the trail?
