  • In this video I compare the Winchester XPR to the Pre-64 Model 70, the Post 64 Model 70, and the Browning X Bolt. Join me to learn about their differences and have a good look at the inner workings of these great rifles. I think the Winchester XPR is one of the best budget rifles around. Another excellent video, very informative. I click on your videos just as soon as I see them. I had a 1951 vintage Model 70, it was in 30-06 and was somewhat modified, barrel shortened to make it into a "scout" rifle. Wish I still had it, they are not easy to find in the shops around me, in fact I can't recall the last time I saw one. There was a Model 54 in a shop a few years ago, the precursor to the Model 70.

Thank you, sir, for another great video and firearm review. I appreciate the thoroughness and practicality of your presentations. It is especially helpful to see the rifles disassembled and explained. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for those kind words about the Post 64. At the risk of repeating myself I have used mine ,a 308 ,for 99% of my hunting over the last 45

A fine, thoughtful presentation which packs in a lot of valuable and practical information. No theatrics - gets straight down to what we came here to see! Thanks.

Another very informative video Mike. I don’t believe your videos are too long or talk too much as I learn something new in each one. Keep the great content coming and the format is fantastic. As I begin collecting rifles and shotguns, your videos have helped me make better and more informed decisions. I’m a Patreon supporter as your shared knowledge is valuable. Cheers.

Another very informative video. Thanks for sharing. I saw a 1980s model 70 in the local Cabelas used section a few months back. I might go visit the store this weekend to see if it still there.

Thanks for explaining all about the XPR and comparing the different bolts of the pre and post 70's. I also liked the way you showed how the sear and trigger mechanism operated on the K98 and the other bolts, very cool. I don't like how Winchester did the recoil lug on the XPR or the poly plastics involved, oh well. Fantastic video. Oh Ya...

Great video and they’re not to long 👍. I recently acquired a model 70 XTR (50th anniversary) 300 win mag , what a beautiful rifle with super nice wood and much scrolling on the barrel receiver and trigger guard PS looks to me like it was made the old way with milled parts , thanks much once again for such a informative nice video 👍

Thanks for taking a look at the XPR. Since I already bought mine, it's good to know it was a good choice from the pool of entry-level hunting rifles on the market these days. My only "gripe" (of sorts) is the 24" barrel... a bit unwieldy in a stand. Otherwise it gets the job done. I'm feeding my coffee can for an eventual upgrade to a Model 70... but that's a few deer seasons down the road. Thanks again... always learn something watching your work. Thanks to your camera crew too. Unsung heroes.

IMHO, your presentations are never too long. They are filled with knowledge and experiences gained from your passion of collecting. I would enjoy even longer more detailed presentations. I will appreciate any and all of your presentations as I learn something from every one.

I watch all your videos and enjoy them. I just finished this one. After watching, I will often grab one of my rifles or search for images with google to get a “closer” look at all the different parts. Sometimes the close up images are easily found, sometimes not. You may want to see if your cameraman or editor can insert specific closeup photos of parts difficult to capture during the presentation. Just an idea. I’ve seen this in other videos and it allows the viewers to pause and study a bit. By the way, my post 64, 22-250 is hands down my most accurate, unmodified, factory rifle. I have customs that are as good or better, but no factory rifle.

Great video. Thank you. I had no idea Browning and Winchester were more or less the same company. I love my Browning rifles. I will need to take a better look at the winchester's.

Thanks a lot for this video. I just got a X bolt and it's my first premium bolt action, so I wanted to know the differences, benefits and possible options for the future. At least you informed me that it's better than good but not the absolute best out there.
