- MPM's 1/48 scale He177 is a large kit with a lot of potential to improve it. Resin parts are included in the cockpit area, and there are three other resin aftermarket sets that can be acquired to enhance the model even further. The machine-guns and cannon included int he kit are best replaced as these are the most inrealistic of items, being little more than stubs of plastic lacking any detail.
However, the engraved surfaces of the mdel are exceptional and lend themselves well to highlighting using whatever means are useful to you. The transparent, vacuformed canopies are quite difficult to work with, as the rear section is slightly narrower than it should be, and there is care needed to attach the front nose section, rembering to accommodate the inbuilt ridge noticeable on contemporary wartime photos.
Many colourful camouflage schemes exist for this type; I chose this scheme based on two photos available to view online and a coloured profile in Clase Sundin's publication "Luftwaffe Bombers - profile book No.7", showing V4+KL of 3./KG1 based at Prowehren/East Prussia on 20/07/1944.
I hope you enjoy this short video, and thanks for taking time to look in.

The best build of this subject I have seen. Outstanding.
Hi, thank you very much - you are very kind with your comments and they are much appreciated.
What masterful paint job Sir! FANTASTIC!!
Shawn, thank you very much. That's a very kind comment and I'm pleased you like the finished model. thank you for taking time to look in... ;-).
That's an excellent job on the cockpit detail.
Yes, it came up well and a lot can be seen throught the transparencies, so well worth the effort... ;-).
Hey Paul another great build! Love the paint work! Thanks for the videos.
Thanks again, John... much appreciated.
Holy Cow! That's a real beauty. Not easy either. Well done... -Dan
Hi, Dan... thanks very much for your comments. Much appreciated. Your '410' is coming along very nicely as well. Keep up the good work... 😉👍
This looks like one huge plane! Love the camouflage!
Yes, Mark... it's certainly large. First time I tried building one of these the best part of 20 years ago ended in a not-very-good result; when I got my hands on this one, I made sure it came out a lot better. The camouflage scheme really was the icing on the cake and it's one of my best builds in recent years... ;-).
Another excellent build. An impressive airframe which is enhance with a spectacular camouflage scheme, beautifully executed.
Thanks very much for your comments, John. The kit is large and heavy, too, with the additional resin aftermarket sets, but well worth the effort for this sort of outcome. thanks for looking in... ;-).
Great Job! 🤗
Ive only seen this kit completed twice & yours is Awesome!
That kit is a tough road...
Indeed, it is a tough road, and with a few potholes along the way! I think it turned out well, though. Thanks again for your comments... ;-).
Amazing build! 👍
Hi, Larry... thanks very much... 😉👍
Another Great video and build.
Thanks again... 😉
Great job on this kit. I have it in my stash. It intimidates me to get started on it.
Hi, George... thanks for your comments. It can be a daunting job to get started, I ceraintly agree, but it is a fine kit to use as the basis for a good end result. Patience and determination always help, too... ;-).
@@georgepeacock2837 I've felt that way (intimidated) the wing nut kits, valuable as they are😬
But a few years back I kinda went F' it what's the worst that could happen!🙂
beautiful aircraft ! always looks as if it should have a tricycle undercarriage , very B-29 like .
Thank you, Fred. Glad you like the model... ;-).
Lovely aircraft a bit dodgy for the crew. Very nice engine and bomb detailing .Good looking camo. Steve U.K.
Hi, Steve... thanks for your comments. Yes, a very advanced design for its time, but a good few issues, not least the specification to include dive-bombing! After the engine fires got sorted out, it was quite effective. It could carry a useful bomb load and over Britain, tended to descend towards target, drop its bombs and head homeward at a fast speed. I read that over the eastern front, it could fly sufficiently high as to be virtually unreachable for Russian fighters to intercept, and coupled with the formidable defensive weapons, was rather a difficult target. Perhaps just as well the high command largely lost interest during the development stage; with all issues resolved and better use of tactics, it could have posed a genuine threat in both theatres of operation.
Paul man !!! why do ya always make me drool at your builds !! please stop 🤣🤣🤣 !!!! ....err second thoughts no don't !!! what a cracker 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Okay, I will endeavour to build progressively less attractive model kits from now on. Perhaps that will help you... ;-). Seriously, thanks for the comments. They did raise a laugh - much appreciated.
@@modcon8297 Paul yer a gem kiddo !!! wonderful skills lad , wish i had the same !!! , keep em coming !!!
Fantastic camo work on an equally impressive build. I'm assuming the flaps sections are scratch-built because, to my knowledge, there is no aftermarket for that. Congratulations.
Carlos, thank you for your kind comments. Yes, the flaps were scratch-built using the relevant part of the underside of the wing as the lower surface of each flap, then building up the upper surface with plastic card and rounding the leading edges with filler. I think they look good in the deployed position. Thanks for taking time to look in... ;-).
@@modcon8297 Thanks for answering; your meticulous work paid off, and it does add interest to the model. I might give it a try when the time comes to do mine.
