I know it’s popular for wrestling fans to hate on Bret Hart nowadays because he often gets criticized for being bitter and grumpy like a cranky old grandpa on the porch but people should at least respect the fact that he’s really honest of what he feels and he’s never afraid to tell you right away. I may not always agree on everything he says, but we always need those types of people in our lives for just never afraid to tell you the truth right off the bat.
Unless he's had a change of heart recently, Bret has pretty much made peace with HBK, and to some extent with Flair. Whatever gripes he has with Macgee is misplaced, as it should be directed at Patterson and McMahon; Patterson in particular who should F'N know better being a wrestler himself as to see who was carrying someone to a great match. His Injury by Dino Bravo: He wasn't out of action for several months as it took place a few weeks before the '89 Survivor Series, which he participated in. He was out of action for a couple weeks being told that he'd be taken care of while recovering. Once he saw the paycheck Vince "generously" gave him during the two or three weeks he was out, Bret found himself back in the ring working injured the rest of the year. It took a "Christmas Miracle" of sorts that allowed him to have a few weeks off in late December and early January of 1990 for him to recover somewhat. As for Hogan: I think Bret did just fine without and despite the power of Hulkamania. I honestly think he dodged a bullet not having to work with Hogan as I think there would have been a similar circumstance Hogan would have pulled to sabotaged Bret like he did with Warrior. Finally, Goldberg: I do not blame Bret at all for being bitter about it. The Stupid Meat-Head MARK injured him, costing Bret MILLIONS.
Here's some additional context that the video does not mention about Ric Flair: Flair had balance issues because of an injury at the time of their matches. Moreover, they have since reconciled and Hart has said that he has fond memories of having 60 minute iron man matches with Flair.
I think Bret has a lot more respect for Flair than he ever will for Hogan. Flair's matches might be one dimensional as well but he was never willing to not work with someone.
I remember Bret Hart colliding with Dino Bravo as the first two entrants in the 1991 Royal Rumble But yeah, I kinda agree with Bret that Bravo was stiff in the ring
I did not know my goat shared the same sentiments about ric that I did. Overrated as fuck in the ring. Entertaining promo at times but an above average worker 🤷🏽♂️
In his autobiography, Bret said that Hogan denied what he supposedly said to Vince so they went to see him together and Vince claimed that Bret had misunderstood what he meant about what Hogan said and Bret in his book claimed that he'd felt that Vince had misled him for some reason.
This retired wrestler (name withheld for privacy) told me, "If Bret had an issue with you, he'd talk with you. He didn't stab you in the back." Personally, I think that speaks for Bret's professionalism. I remember the rivalry between him and Shawn...I could feel it and I think it's safe to say other fans did. Goldberg was on a top 10 list of the most difficult wrestlers to work with because he was reckless and didn't even know the basics...surprise surprise? Shawn made the list too.
Funny thing is with Flair that got shown to be complete bullshit. Bret moaned about Flair" not putting him over" despite the fact Flair was worked injured, and when Bret finally found out he had to back track on his comments. Had he been up front with it and just gone to Flair first he wouldn't have come out looking like an idiot.
The Hitman was, is, and always will be my favorite WRESTLER of all time. Bret Hart is the GOAT of professional wrestling. I feel so bad for how it turned out for him. I am very appreciative of his work, though. I had a lot of fun watching him on the TV when i was growing up. From all of us, Bret, thank you, sir. You won't be forgotten. ❤
Bret never talks about the only other guy from his era that was a mega star like him Sting. They were about the same size height wise and weight Sting was a little bigger. Bret was all ground moves and kicks and punches with the sharpshooter at the end. Sting was a guy that learned from a lot of legends to become what he was. Power moves, high flying moves and the scorpion death lock at the end. Two sides of the same coin.
Hogan did not like Brett or anyone else who threatened his supremacy with McMahon, including Warrior, Savage, Undertaker, etc. Even after Hogan was washed up , he worked hard to undermine any upcoming wrestlers.
He literally had to quit his lifetime passion he gave his mental and physical health up for, for his entire life due to someone not caring about keeping his opponents safe. He got screwed over and lied to about money and creative deals multiple times in WWF, even though he literally carried the company on his back when it came to wrestling talent, and stuck through the wrestling dark ages. And this same company that wronged him is also responsible for HIS BROTHERS DEATH. In a situation that was very stupid and unnecessary. He’s allowed to be “bitter” his life’s work and passion got ended abruptly when he still had energy and love for the industry.
@@shoeplayisbad1 Shawn did it multiple generations. As a Rocker he changed tag-team wrestling forever - almost Steph with the 3. Then he had the first half of his career and then somehow was even better in ring the last stretch and had match to watch every Wrestlemania.
Michaels was a great in ring performer… but GOAT? I suggest you find footage of the Dynamite Kid, from WWE, and especially his days in Stampede Wrestling. Dynamite Kid, along with Davey Boy Smith (prior to WWE steroid use) were both the most amazing performers in wrestling. They put on Shawn Michaels performances a decade before Shawn started wrestling.
It's mentioned in the video, Bret's beef with Shawn for much of their careers was due to the latter's diva attitude. This is a problem, cause in professional wrestling, you need both men to be in sync in order to perform spots and to make sure bumps are taken safely. Shawn's "me first" attitude can easily jeopardize the match, especially if he refused to match Hart's actions or care for his safety. Then there is also the personal issues which sealed the enmity. At the very least, this story has a happy ending: both Hart and Michaels have since reconciled, and the two have been on speaking terms since.
Bret's WCW stint was a total waste of potential thanks to the Bischoff/Hogan/Nash booking nonsense. He could have started with a feud with Ric Flair, both talking trash at each other for not being good enough that could stretch for a few months in a series of matches till 1998. Then he could have gotten into the US title and made another rivalry with Sting before eventually become World champion, and having a go at the nWo that should have made the Wolfpac/Hollywood factions spell their own doom.
But this is Eric “I totally don’t book like Tony Khan” Bischoff. If it ain’t nWo aka his only real successful contribution to wrestling, he ain’t interested.
To be honest, if I got it like Bret, I'd be pissed and bitter too. Even if it is "tiresome", I can't not have sympathy for him on an objective, intellectual level. That said, I will say that he seems solipsistic to a fault. He'll tell anybody who listens that he alone got Austin over (Austin will say near enough the same thing, but gratitude is more understandable than bragging) - and from what I understand, he wanted the top spot so bad that, when in the WWF, he was willing to be underpaid, and affected other upper-carders' contracts negatively as a result. A great wrestler? Yeah. Honest? In most ways that count. A saint? Far from it.
I've never been much of a Hitman fan, but have always appreciated that he cuts the BS and says what he feels. And he's been proven right about a lot of things over the years.
Regarding Flair and why he had bad matches with Bret in the fall of 1992; it's because Flair got a busted ear drum while wrestling the Warrior in a house show. Flair pretty much kept it to himself, and he kept having bad matches pretty much all around. That's the main reason why Vince took the title off of him in October and had him do the honours to Bret.
He didn’t and doesn’t hate them, he just said the facts. Even Shawn and Bret buried the hatchet. Bret just has no problem saying what he thinks whether or not it offends people, even if they are the people around him that he loves and that is the type of character this world lacks and is in dyer need of. His father was even the GOAT of schooling the art of wrestling.
Brett had lineage of the industry in him, family business. How many guys were trained by Stu ??? Basically Brett has the leverage on knowing & respect for the business. Also, never knew about the sternum and heart bruise. Brett was basically has a good reason to be cautious and he did care for opponent in ring. Also losing Owen the way he did. How could Bret walk around and be happy and cheery about the business ???
Bret didn’t hate working with Michaels , he hated Michaels. He’s admitted they had great matches but their personal issues got in the way. I don’t agree with him saying Flair is overrated, but he’s right, if you’ve seen one Ric Flair match, you’ve seen them all. Same with Hogan.
Everyone had problems with HBK back then, he’s on good terms with both Michaels and ric flair now, he was right about hogan, he only ever looked after himself, Goldberg had a great look but he couldn’t wrestle, William regal exposed him and embarrassed him, Bret lives and breathes wrestling and always called it like it was, when I think of the excellence of execution I think of Bret the hitman Hart, one of the reasons I feel in love with wrestling is because of guys like him
To be fair, he's taken back what he's said about Flair over the years and has, not only made amends with him, put over his abilities and career. I remember he said in 2020 that Flair is the kind of guy to look up to when executing moves or something around these lines.
Correct, those comments were made when Bret was unaware that Flair was injured in their title match and why the match wasn't great. When he was finally told the truth, he did acknowledge his mistake.
Fast forward to 2010, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels would finally bury the hatchet after a never ending feud between the two. Michaels even went as far as bringing up Wrestlemania 12's Iron Man Match and mentioning to Bret how everyone around them thought that they both wouldn't be able to wrestle a match that exceeded a full hour which they did. Vince Mcmahon, on the other hand, did not despite rumors in which behind the scenes he already had.
Bret didn't hate Ric flair, he just didn't understand why he was touted as the greatest of all time, and in a lot of ways, he was correct. Flair had pretty much the same match for 50 years. Hogan was the same way, Bret could have a great match with anybody on the roster, accentuating their positives and hiding their negatives.
I don't understand your nickname for Shawn Michaels. Aren't "scripted wins" exactly what wrestling is all about? What wrestler didn't get "scripted wins"? 🤔
Hogan knew that Bret represented a change in tastes by the fans that he couldn’t adapt to and keep his spot . Thats why he never wanted to work with Bret . It would show so clearly .
I didn’t mind Yokozuna going over on Bret . I did mind Hogan take all of the glory away from Yokozuna . Hogan just buried both of them in a minute and no one wanted to see it .
crying shame. we could have watched Hitman working his talent in 1997 to 2010s; so instead the former CEO of titan being investigated in 2020s. who really won here? life can be unfair & cruel
I don't think Shawn Michaels had overtaken Bret Hart in popularity. Or at least, not while Bret was still in the WWE in 1997. I would say that prior to 98, Bret was probably the second or third most popular wrestling worldwide.
To be fair, you could probably name a dozen wrestlers who were active between say 85 and 95 that hate all these people. Hogan talked shit about anyone that might steal his thunder, Michaels did the same, Goldberg ... yeah the name just says it all, doesn't it ...
Flair is second inly to Hulk Hogan for owing his success to Vince McMahon . Vince took all of his stiff competition for NWA top guy to WWF . Without that no way does Flair dominate the NWA .
While I can understand the career-long frustration of Bret Hart, surrounded by mostly wrestlers less skilled than himself, Bret, and indeed the maker of this video, makes it sound like wrestlers somehow are supposed to hav a say in the outcome of their matches when 99% of the time, it's _only_ about what the promoter thinks makes the company the most money. That doesn't mean it's the best decision, certainly not in hindsight, but it's just business. Bret can pretend to have all the integrity in the world, but at the end of the day, he's just supposed to do what he's told. I'd much rather have liked to watch a WWF full of Brets, Owens, Mr. Perfects, Rick Rudes, Bam Bam Bigelows and others who managed to combine old-school varied wrestling skills with personality and entertaining showmanship. Hulk Hogan and Rick Flair were fun for a few matches, but when you realise they're all the same, it gets old and boring and you just can't wait for the next Jake The Snake promo or Hart Foundation tag match to watch some quality entertainment.
Its too bad Shawn couldn't have dropped the title to Bret clean at a Summer Slam or Wrestlemania and then have Shawn win it back later on. Just too bad Shawn's ego couldn't let him see by losing he would actually be winning. Something Undertaker learned with Mankind.
People who flippantly say, "Bret should let it go about Goldberg" need to wise up. If you had a job you loved that you were excellent at, then some idiot injured you so badly while not being attentive that you could never do that job again, would you be so quick to forgive and forget? No, I didn't think so!
You are another crybaby b itch just like Bret Heart. Get over it already. Bill Goldberg didn't do anything wrong. Bret Heart already how to concussion he shouldn't have been wrestling anyways so that's on him.
While I think there DEFINITELY was a lot of fault on Shawn's side with his primo donna attitude, a big part of Bret's frustration there was, like Hogan, really about Vince. Bret was a magnificent wrestler. His moves were crisp, his timing was perfect, his variety of moves was leagues beyond everyone else. He had a strong wrestling bloodline and he respected and gave to the business. BUT.... Bret wasn't charismatic. Or at least charismatic enough. So the booker isn't going to put you as the face of his company. Hogan and Shawn both convinced Vinnie Mac that they were the future, and Vince didn't shake up his pushes for swerves, so the golden boy was guaranteed his spot. And Bret couldn't be that golden boy. His flat character and middling presence just wasn't enough. As for Goldberg, Bret is obsessed with the guy and how he ended his career. In one interview Bret was going on about how Bill should have sent him cuts of his own paydays from then on in. And yes, Bill was stiff and his chaotic style was brutal. But it was an accident. Bill didn't set out to hurt Bret, it's just something that occasionally happens in this dangerous entertainment medium. As a man whose entire life literally revolved around wrestling since birth, Bret should understand that. I think Bret is kind of like Randy, in a way. Both were given the football for a brief period and then Hogan took it away. Both of them were top notch performers but never got the spot they felt they deserved, at least not for long. And I understand that. I'd feel the same way.
The whole Flair thing is weird. Bret was clearly seen at ringside for that "last match" alongside Taker and Mick Foley. Has Bret softened towards Flair more recently?
No one could draw like Hogan and that wouldn't happen again until the attitude era when we saw the likes of Austin and The Rock. Hogan was all about the character with his superhero good guy gimmick rather than any technical wrestling ability. There's some truth to what Hogan said however at that time fans were getting bored of Hogan. I much prefer Hart and his in-ring work but he wasn't in Hogans league where drawing ability was concerned as the main guy to carry the company. I mean he did a better job than Diesel lol but I can see why Mcmahon went with Shawn Michaels in 1996 when Business was down he was just more entertaining.
Bret Hart understand wrestling very well. he grew up watching many wrestlers on their basement so he knows what's good, what's dangerous and what's not. he's dedicated his life to master the craft. then comes these bunch of body builders and wtestling badass wanna be's and screw the show and other wrestler's career.

He has his reasons, too. At least he ain't trashing on today's wrestlers and products like Jim Cornette.
Vince "The Genius", I think not. He was Steve Jobs, took credit for the ideas and talent of his subordinates.
Vince McMahon was an absolute genius. He created so many incredible gimmicks of all time in pro wrestling.

Hogan never sabotaged warrior
I think you meant to say he tried to sabotage Undertaker.
Bret Hart was the best.
“Vince McMahon had a change of Hart”!!!
Nice work
Here's some additional context that the video does not mention about Ric Flair: Flair had balance issues because of an injury at the time of their matches. Moreover, they have since reconciled and Hart has said that he has fond memories of having 60 minute iron man matches with Flair.
I think Bret has a lot more respect for Flair than he ever will for Hogan. Flair's matches might be one dimensional as well but he was never willing to not work with someone.
Hogan was actually to drop the belt to Bret at Summerslam 1993, not at King of the Ring!
Hogan lost to Yoko at KOTR
Drop it to Bret with a sharpshooter like Bret said? IDTS. 😆
Bret told Hogan the truth
He also felt like Booker was trying to kill him with the Axe Kick
Bret Hart praised Booker T and wanted to work more with them because he believed would have made money.
I remember Bret Hart colliding with Dino Bravo as the first two entrants in the 1991 Royal Rumble
But yeah, I kinda agree with Bret that Bravo was stiff in the ring
I did not know my goat shared the same sentiments about ric that I did. Overrated as fuck in the ring. Entertaining promo at times but an above average worker 🤷🏽♂️
In his autobiography, Bret said that Hogan denied what he supposedly said to Vince so they went to see him together and Vince claimed that Bret had misunderstood what he meant about what Hogan said and Bret in his book claimed that he'd felt that Vince had misled him for some reason.
5:54 Vince had his pants completely wet there.
Pat Patterson's pants were completely wet there too.

Bret was great in the ring but bad on the mic. His heel turn in 1997 made his promos better.
Legend has it Bret Hart forgot about all prior beefs after meeting Bill Goldberg 😂
😂
This retired wrestler (name withheld for privacy) told me, "If Bret had an issue with you, he'd talk with you. He didn't stab you in the back." Personally, I think that speaks for Bret's professionalism. I remember the rivalry between him and Shawn...I could feel it and I think it's safe to say other fans did. Goldberg was on a top 10 list of the most difficult wrestlers to work with because he was reckless and didn't even know the basics...surprise surprise? Shawn made the list too.
Bret has vagina pain
Funny thing is with Flair that got shown to be complete bullshit.
Bret moaned about Flair" not putting him over" despite the fact Flair was worked injured, and when Bret finally found out he had to back track on his comments. Had he been up front with it and just gone to Flair first he wouldn't have come out looking like an idiot.
@@MrSniperfox29 agreed. Bret is a bullshit artist
I'm with Bret because most of those wrestlers can't wrestle for 💩

Bret never talks about the only other guy from his era that was a mega star like him Sting. They were about the same size height wise and weight Sting was a little bigger. Bret was all ground moves and kicks and punches with the sharpshooter at the end. Sting was a guy that learned from a lot of legends to become what he was. Power moves, high flying moves and the scorpion death lock at the end. Two sides of the same coin.
agreed with flair/ seen the same match, everytime
If I were to lead any wrestler to the fountain of youth, it would be Bret. I'd love to see him wrestle in the modern day.
Hogan did not like Brett or anyone else who threatened his supremacy with McMahon, including Warrior, Savage, Undertaker, etc. Even after Hogan was washed up , he worked hard to undermine any upcoming wrestlers.
Has Bret Hart ever been happy a day in his life? God damn the dude is angry 24/7. He wakes up angry and goes to bed angry and shits angry.
Bret definitely didn't hate working with Shawn. Shawn is the in-ring GOAT and Bret wanted to actually continue the feud through the next Wrestlemania.
I don't think Shawn is the in ring greatest. There are those who say he is. He's definitely up there
@@shoeplayisbad1 Shawn did it multiple generations. As a Rocker he changed tag-team wrestling forever - almost Steph with the 3. Then he had the first half of his career and then somehow was even better in ring the last stretch and had match to watch every Wrestlemania.
@@MarcoRizzolo I don't think of him as tag team wrestler
The rockers were good but there were much better teams
Bret Hart is number 1. Those of us who know. Know.

I think, Brett is a very emotional and proud man. He was of course a great wrestler. But he beat up his boss.
I think he might hate Goldberg. Not sure tho, haven't heard him talk about it.
Me neither. I wonder if anyone has done a shoot interview with him, yet?
He does. Even if he says he doesn't. The disrespect in his comments on Goldberg gives it away.
every single name on the list should just be Bill Goldberg.
Next m8 good work
To be honest, if I got it like Bret, I'd be pissed and bitter too.
I think the main event at Royal Rumble 1993 should of been Flair Vs Bret
As a child I believed those finishing moves are actually real😂
Bravo didn't fade into the background in the early 90s, he was murdered.
Hulk Hogan missed out on having a great match with Bret. Bret could wrestle anyone and make it look convincing. Hart vs Undertaker comes to mind
I'm sure one man who won't be mentioned is Goldberg. 😂😂😂
Bret remains an icon of Excellence of Execution. He gave me entertainment and a sense of resilience and temerity in my teen years.
Bill "concussion" Goldberg.
Hulk "selfish" Hogan.
Shawn "scripted wins" Michaels.
I don't understand your nickname for Shawn Michaels. Aren't "scripted wins" exactly what wrestling is all about? What wrestler didn't get "scripted wins"? 🤔
Flair was overrated
I will always be a mark for Bret Hart. I love the way he sold those turnbuckle bumps - he made it look just devastating.
holy shit WM 9 was 31 years ago. That was one of the few ppvs i saw live as a kid.
Hogan knew that Bret represented a change in tastes by the fans that he couldn’t adapt to and keep his spot . Thats why he never wanted to work with Bret . It would show so clearly .
McGee was a hottie! I always liked the Hitman! Flair was a low budget Dusty.
Brett Hart the man, the legend. Made so many look good WITH HIS excellence of execution.
Can you kiss his ass any more?

I didn’t mind Yokozuna going over on Bret . I did mind Hogan take all of the glory away from Yokozuna . Hogan just buried both of them in a minute and no one wanted to see it .
crying shame. we could have watched Hitman working his talent in 1997 to 2010s; so instead the former CEO of titan being investigated in 2020s. who really won here? life can be unfair & cruel
I probably like Bret Hart now even more than as he was a active wrestler..no bs just what he thinks
Bret wrestled Terry Funk in a hard-core match after the Goldberg match.
Brett was one my top five wrestlers. He was so kick ass in his moves
I don't think Shawn Michaels had overtaken Bret Hart in popularity. Or at least, not while Bret was still in the WWE in 1997. I would say that prior to 98, Bret was probably the second or third most popular wrestling worldwide.
Who is Jokozuna?
To be fair, you could probably name a dozen wrestlers who were active between say 85 and 95 that hate all these people. Hogan talked shit about anyone that might steal his thunder, Michaels did the same, Goldberg ... yeah the name just says it all, doesn't it ...
Flair is second inly to Hulk Hogan for owing his success to Vince McMahon . Vince took all of his stiff competition for NWA top guy to WWF . Without that no way does Flair dominate the NWA .
No wonder Hogan sees something in Trump. They're both of the same mold.

Bret Heart and Undertaker are my favourite!
They give you the impression that the opponets were great which is not easy to do!!
