I think he is giving HHH way too much credit. The guy wasn't with Steph yet, & while Shawn had pull due to his relationship with the Kliq, they were gone, & it was basically HBK - who was screwing up left & right all the time politicking by himself. Now it's POSSIBLE that HHH - was always the smart one - & that's the reason why he is where he is today, & due to being the sober one, acted as "The Voice" of HBK & a liaison. Perhaps Bret isn't conveying that very well or it's cut off due to this not being the full interview. I can definitely see where he is coming from & imo Bret Hart is the original CM Punk. A straight guy that always gets screwed because he doesn't want to play ball the way everyone else does. I'm very much like that myself IRL - I've LITERALLY sued my employers & gotten fired because I refused to commit crimes or "fall in line" the way they did. I've won settlements etc but at the end of the day - I'm also considered "A problem person" & more alone because of it & there are careers I can't go back to because of that as well. I think it takes one to know one. So I'm always very happy when I see a Bret Hart, a Punk etc come out on top. Imagine waiting as long as they have to be proven right? I'm still waiting for my day to come. I think I'm close. I still have a very big enemy I have to get rid of. They are an inspiration to me in that regard.
Not only that, Bret always puts over Shawn as a character/ gimmick during their 97 feud. He always says he was better in ring and in character in 97 than when they wrestled for the belt at Survivor Series 92. The huge gripe was how unbearable Shawn was like to deal with backstage

Sounds like the WWE consisted of a bunch of four year olds back then. It was just politics . You had professionals like Brett and The Undertaker, and you had others playing games like children.
McMahon had wrestlers who took the business seriously in the Undertaker, Hart, and Austin. But for a year he decided to listen to a drug addict instead of them.
It was so petty what Triple H and Shawn Michaels were doing back then to Bret Hart. Bret Hart worked his way up really understood the wrestling business and was dedicated to his craft.
Hhh & hbk tried to stop and sabotage the Rock push too. They were hazing him trying to force him to quit, even mark henry confirms it. Hhh was always a politicking cunning prick and dumb fanboy are worshipping him now
People always say Bret sounds so bitter and angry, Part of that might be true and part of me can’t blame him for some of it but to me he sounds really happy and at peace with everything. He acknowledges where he made mistakes and things he did wrong which is a huge tone shift from before, Even the way he talks and compliments Shawn, It just really makes me happy because he has been through so much and he gave literally everything he had to the business.
The real ones always get screwed in any industry/field. Even as a teen i knew that Bret was different. Appreciate cha Bret Hart for all the great memories. I remember we used to watch wrestling, an entire family together going through the ups & downs of the match lol We're all screaming at the TV 😂😂😂. I go as far back as The Fabulous Freebirds 😂😂😂
Love Bret but amazing how much he still holds this with him so many years after. They were all young and pretty crazy. Anyways I think he has improved relations with them since 2019 when this interview was done
When bret announced he was leaving for WCW, what should have happened was, he retains the title, the following night on raw he would come out say his goodbyes and thank everyone, leave the belt in the ring and that would be that, vince would probably then have a tournament to determine the new WWF/WWE champion which shawn would win, no one needed to get screwed and everyone would've been happy
There is no way Bret would have turned up on Nitro with the WWF Championship. The problem was that WCW would have announced that they had signed the WWF champion the next night if Bret hadn’t have dropped it. It would have been bad for the WWF that their current champion was jumping ship.
@@mrsunshine6936 I said bret would come out on raw with the wwf title not wcw nitro, and bret would have been able to appear on both shows since rick rude was on raw after survivor series 1997 and was on nitro the same night
Maybe Bret shows up on Nitro with the belt, maybe he doesn’t, but Vince had to watch as Alundra Blaze dumped his womens world championship in the garbage on live tv. I don’t know if I would trust Bret either.
Bret only speaks the truth. HHH and HBK are absolute manipulators. Just like Vince. It's heartbreaking to hear Bulldog getting screwed. It was sad to see Owen totally wasted after Bret left. 1997 was the best year in WWF history, and the Hart Foundation was a huge reason why. It would have been a far better story to have seen Austin go through the Foundation, eventually going over Bret at WM 14. 1998, and 1999 could have been used as a chance to have the Rock, Shamrock, Edge, Christian, Angle all work with the Foundation. The illusion of wrestling would have been maintained. Maybe Bulldog gets a few more years. Maybe Owen is still alive. And maybe more modern day fans would understand that the guys from Stampede ( Dynamite, Davey Boy, Bret, Anvil, etc) built alot of the WWF and are far more relevant than someone like an HBK or HHH.
Only thing is, Bret was reportedly very much against the attitude era which Shawn & HHH pushed for. WWF was getting clobbered by WCW, I think WWF did what they had to do and wouldn't have won the Monday night wars without it. Absolutely Owen would still be alive today if Bret hadn't left. Owen was getting buried because neither Shawn or HHH wanted to work with him so he was relegated to the mid card. (I can understand why Austin wouldnt want to work with him after the piledriver gone wrong) Bret would have stood up for Owen and even if he didn't succeed in getting him out of the mid card, he definitely would have talked him and management out of that stupid stunt. The sad thing is maybe Bulldog might have lived if he hadn't have gone to WCW, he was starting to get control of his drug & roid use, but injured his back in WCW because they didn't tell anyone about a trap door that was set up in the ring and he hit it. It lead to him relapsing. But hard to say, he had so many demons the damage may have already been done.
He mentioned in his book also, there was a night in 97 where HHH was booking RAW, he scheduled Bret to win the IC title from the Rock. Bret went to Vince and Vince overruled HHH with Bret having convinced him that the Rock was a future star and needed to keep the belt. So Rock retained by DQ. HHH & HBK were always trying to bury him cause they knew he was a threat to their spotlight.
Even though he totally lost his focus in answering question # 1, I loved hearing the story about how the "spit" came about. Overall, I think when it comes to the screwjob, in hindsight, it really was the best ending for both parties - that being Bret and Vince. We all know Bret didn't actually tap out and therefore, he never really was defeated for that Championship. Then of course, we know hes not going to appear on any other WWE programming from that point on, so the entire wrestling fan base and industry are going to be highly anticipating his debut on Nitro. It really was a W for Bret, not that I wanted to see him go to WCW ever, but given the circumstances.
Dam... i totally forgot about the Davey Smith match/storyline. Where he had legit family member with cancer. Can't believe Vince didn't let Smith win in his own hometown.
HHH was a loser. He convinced Vince then tried to convince Bret to beat Rocky for the IC title in 1997 to go have "his good midcard matches" so him and shawn could I guess run the main event with each other. HHH turned into a good worker and a superstar once he hit the roids, but in 97 he was nothing more than a midcard comedy jock.
Triple H also had the audacity to say that Kurt Angle was too short to be the WWE Champion. He was so insecure that Kurt would grow to be a better heel and take his place.
Does anyone the expression on harts face when talking about the spitting on shawn michaels. He says its accident that he spit in shawns face over the plan to spit on his shirt. He doesnt sound like what hes saying is completely truthful
Is he wrong though? We can only take his word for it he doesn't seem like a type of person to lie or be pretentious. Everyone else he talks about pretty much just seems to side with their own side of the story. At the end of the day it sounds like Bret got done dirty in his later stages of his career.
If Bret Hart and Undertaker werent on that Summerslam poster then who was? British Bulldog and Ken Shamrock? Los Boriquas and Disciples of Apocalypse? Lol
Bret Hart is my favorite wrestler of all time. I could listen to his stories all day, he keeps it honest and doesn't hold back. Genuine guy that grew up, loveing the business and was the first to speak up against the "Monarchy" of the "cliq" and hated the direction of the business.
Bret Hart talks as if Hunter or Vince forced him to leave the company. In fact, Bret chose to take WCW's offer and leave WWE. Financially, it made better sense--but why complain about what he lost when it was his choice to leave??
@@quikdeath100 They could have done a new contract. It was known that WCW had an attractive offer to Bret, and Vince offered to help him get there. But no one can force you to take a job you don't want, no matter how much they offer. Bret sold out then cried about it
I’m not sure if I agree with the company guy mentality. These dudes have gave everything from health to missing time with kids and family for a company that would shit on them in a heartbeat. I respect them for it but it wasn’t the right mentality at that time imo

A month before survivor series, Bret told Shawn that he has no problem dropping the title to him... however shawn ended up disrespecting bret after bret tried to fix things between them. That's why bret refuse to drop it to shawn... he wanted to drop it to undertaker for one of his last matches.

Man. If goldberg did not injure brett, we could have seen so many great matches. Him vs kurt would have been some of the best in ring work ever.
Bret Hart shouting out The Patriot was classy as hell. Del Wilks was underrated.
R.I.P Patriot
I started watching wrestling because of Bret Hart.
Every interview he does about triple h lets me know he was groomed for the spot he’s in now long ago
He wasnt groomed he wanted the spot hes in now, and he did what he could to get it
y’all need an updated bret shoot
I've been seeing clips from this interview for like 3 years it seems lol but never seen the entire interview
I always loved the Hitman. Still love his interviews
Hhh was always a politicking cunning prick and dumb fanboy are worshipping him now
Theres always those types in the world
I've stopped watching wrestling because when they were crapping all over your favorite wrestlers you just give up after a time😊
Hate when ppl say "irregardless". 9:25 🤦🏻♂️
It's "regardless".
There. 😅 9:26 ... Fixed it.
Never heard anyone say a bad word about The Undertaker
Bret Hart is the only person in wrestling to not know it’s a work
Vince did all of that not h and Shawn this was way before hhh started with Stephanie
The whole bret hart thing was mostly shawn, go listen to jim cornette on the screwjob
Bret Hart is cool af
People always say Bret sounds so bitter and angry, Part of that might be true and part of me can’t blame him for some of it but to me he sounds really happy and at peace with everything. He acknowledges where he made mistakes and things he did wrong which is a huge tone shift from before, Even the way he talks and compliments Shawn, It just really makes me happy because he has been through so much and he gave literally everything he had to the business.
I was there at one night only! Was a blast! I think I was the only one that cheered for Shawn winning against bulldog 😂
Or Bret says fuck you Vince for the contract situation, and fuck you shawn for being an ass and show up with the title on WCW
Bret was 100% going to take that belt to nitro and Vince knew it
There is no way Bret would have turned up on Nitro with the WWF Championship.
I swear Brets whole life revolves around Shawn and Goldberg, bro never stops talking about them
Dont forget Hogan
They keep asking him about them??
Sounds like Triple H buried so many people he should’ve been called the Undertaker
Great interview!
I’m a company guy, so many interviews about how he wouldn’t do business unless it was good for him
The best there is, the best there was, and best there ever will be
He always will be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
The sad part is that today, Bret is the only person alive out of the entire "Hart Foundation".
Bret is the best there was the best there is and the best that every will b. Promos suck but his in ring work was flawless
Bret Hart 😁😇🥰😍🤩🥲😋💝💖💗❤💯💪👍
I only clicked on this video to see if there's a clip where he doesn't talk about Goldberg kicking him ending his career
I find it hard to believe that Trips had any sort of backstage power at that point
He was close with Shawn and Shawn was Vince’s guy.
@@atifqavi2054 Yep lol. So ironic that he has a hard on for all the tiny indy guys with no tv presence at all now.
One night in UK was awesome
Its still real to him damnit
I mean the money was real, think you'd be pissed too if your career was cut short and you lost out on tens of millions of dollars.
Bret should cry about how his brother injured and destroyed careers like stone cold.
Does anyone the expression on harts face when talking about the spitting on shawn michaels. He says its accident that he spit in shawns face over the plan to spit on his shirt. He doesnt sound like what hes saying is completely truthful
Bret is one of the best, but you can feel that he can't let go of a lot of things.
I love hearing Bret speak the truth
me too I hate the soft little girls that cry about it
Bret Hart is a class act, always love to hear what he has to say. Always is honest and genuine.
Every bret hart story……. “ I was a great guy never did any wrong and ppl just shit on me my whole career”
Is he wrong though?
We can only take his word for it he doesn't seem like a type of person to lie or be pretentious.
Everyone else he talks about pretty much just seems to side with their own side of the story.
At the end of the day it sounds like Bret got done dirty in his later stages of his career.
Bret is a class act in and out of the ring🎉
WCW may have had their 83 weeks during this period, but I was 100% WWF. So much more compelling. And a lot of that had to do with Bret.
If Bret Hart and Undertaker werent on that Summerslam poster then who was? British Bulldog and Ken Shamrock? Los Boriquas and Disciples of Apocalypse? Lol
I would like to know though has he forgive HHH now,im curious
Bret Hart is my favorite wrestler of all time. I could listen to his stories all day, he keeps it honest and doesn't hold back. Genuine guy that grew up, loveing the business and was the first to speak up against the "Monarchy" of the "cliq" and hated the direction of the business.
Bret Hart talks as if Hunter or Vince forced him to leave the company. In fact, Bret chose to take WCW's offer and leave WWE. Financially, it made better sense--but why complain about what he lost when it was his choice to leave??
It wasn’t his choice. McMahon said he wouldn’t honor the contract he signed in 1996.
God bless this man.
Posting these FIVE YEARS LATER is both cheap, and somewhat of a misrepresentation... Either get new, up to date interviews, with up to date opinions, of up to date people, or don't post at all. You're making it look like Bret is still moaning five years later and not reading the current climate...
Bret has moaned since 97… what would be different in 2024?
HBK thowing Jennetty though the window of Brutus the Barbers beefcakes window i always remember from 1992
Bret Hart is a real good wrestler and is a truth teller. If he wasnt he wouldnt have so many haters who hate on him for no reason. Those people who hate on him dont hate on anyone else. Its pretty sad that people find it necessary to hate him for, he seems like real good and genuine guy.
I HATE TRIPLE H AND SHAWN.
and Thats why you never kill yourself for someone elses company. I mean the point is to work your way to the top well the top is Vince's spot. Triple H just now got given the top spot because Vince is old and apparently a super sleeze. Bret was solid always Canadian wrestlers are the Best hands down
He’s on Raw with Triple H RighT Now‼️😂
There was a way to do the bulldog vs hbk match without Davey looking like a tool. Hunter and Shawn buried him with no rebuttal. Shawn could’ve gotten dq’d and kept the belt but he wanted to look good and didn’t care what it costed
How many times are you gonna use the same interviews 😂
Bret > Shawn
Outta your mind. Shawn is the goat
How long was this interview? I'm getting notifications for clips of it 6 months later
y'all remember when razor said he kept telling bret to push for money from vince, but he wouldn't bc he was cool making peanuts as long as he had the belt and beat everyone 😒🤦🏻♂️
someone with the talent and knowledge of Bret could have helped in so many ways, in and out of the ring. It's a shame he went to WCW.
It was triple H. Jim Cornette and Vinnie Mac behind the screw job. Also HBK of course
I agree with Bret!!! Hunter was young and had one hell of an ego!! Looking back Triple H is probably the Jay-Z of WWE!!! He was willing to Take shots or knock off any of the best wrestlers at that time to eventually become THE MAN himself!
Just imagine if Shawn and Bret could have squashed their beef how many more classic matches they could have had.
Nah they had so many already - the time had come and gone
Bret's praise about the Undertaker and the Patriot...
Yeah he could’ve fought Angle,Eddie,Benoit. Which he atleast wrestled Benoit in WCW pretty good matches.
I was a company guy. Except when I was leaving then I wouldnt drop the title and put someone over - like 99.9% of every wrestlers ever. He's more like Hogan than he lets on.
Great wrestler. Bigger crybaby.
A month before survivor series, Bret told Shawn that he has no problem dropping the title to him... however shawn ended up disrespecting bret after bret tried to fix things between them. That's why bret refuse to drop it to shawn... he wanted to drop it to undertaker for one of his last matches.
@@rudyhernandez7128 no, he wanted not to lose to Shawn and hand over his title on the Monday while at the same time Bischoff would have announced his signing on TNT
Every suggestion was made to Bret, and he refused all of them - I loved him as a wrestler, but he needs to recognise he needed to drop the title, in the same way that people had dropped it to him in the past. He didnt own the title, the company did.
@@stirlingsheep I literally saw a video of him saying what I said... but sure thing buddy
